Results Day and UCAS

MotherOfGirls · 06/08/2013 12:03

Eldest DD is expecting A level results on 15th so this is my first experience of UCAS. She seems to think her results will go to UCAS before they are emailed to her by her school, and so she will find out if she has made her offer by checking her UCAS account. She also thinks this happens at midnight. Can anyone confirm any of this, please?

Don't worry about fallon

It is rule that at you get at least one random naysayer on every thread that gets in classics, the round up or spends much time on discussions of the day...

BlehPukeVomit · 18/08/2013 11:33

I love it when one of my DCs starts Uni. I give them all my old tat and get myself some nice new stuff. Grin

duchesse · 18/08/2013 11:37

Vomit Grin I did the same with DS and all my old kitchen paraphernalia- managed to shuffle on loads of ugly mugs and my least favourite tea towels and tin opener.

MissMarplesBloomers · 18/08/2013 12:03

Ha -another one here eyeing up the naice new kitchen stuff & shoving
the well loved and familiar old tat into the Uni box!

MABS · 18/08/2013 12:20

am looking through the old tat just now :) my helicopter is very low...

noddyholder · 18/08/2013 12:39

Grin me too I could practically jump out and land on my feet! Jesse really thinks he is taking White co towels and bedding Little lord fauntleroy

Chopchopbusybusy · 18/08/2013 12:43

Do fuck off with your assumptions fallon. My DD and I like one another. I'm really quite pleased about that. It'll come in handy when she's choosing my care home.

MABS · 18/08/2013 13:07

well written chopchop. My dd seems to think that I will be arranging an ocado delivery every month!

ExcuseTypos · 18/08/2013 13:45

Ha ha MABS. My dd told me she was glad she's in a ground floor flat as it says in the housing booklet that if you get a shopping delivery they won't carry it up to your flat, you have to go and get it from van.

I did point out she probably won't be getting her shopping delivered. She said I could always surprise her. Yeh right.

larry5 · 18/08/2013 13:56

In her last year at uni my dd did have her shopping delivered as it was cheaper to order on line than it was to travel to the local supermarkets. There was a shop on campus but that was expensive. There were cheaper times of day for deliveries.

MABS · 18/08/2013 14:00

Like her style Excuse :) my dd deadly serious, asda maybe, but Ocado??!!

MissMarplesBloomers · 18/08/2013 14:02

I've told DD to suss out the nearest Aldi or Lidl & will be supplying a starter box of groceries & a few bags for life!

noddyholder · 18/08/2013 14:08

My son is the same

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 18/08/2013 14:17

I started DD1 off with a monster grocery shop. How she dealt with it was her problem, but I like I think that in her first almost 19 years of life she had picked up a few tips along the way. And she had - she was absolutely astonished that 3 of her 6 flat mates a their halls had no idea about anything to do with cooking, cleaning, washing up/clothes etc. quite sad really.

But yes to getting rid of all the old crap from the kitchen - shiny new pots, pans and other lovely bits and bobs for me. I will do the same for DD2 in September when she starts - a massive shop and between my 4 siblings, mum and her other grandmother, we have out together a good starter pack for the kitchen for her.

Fallon - there is a massive difference between helping one's child put together the practical side of things in what is essentially their first home of their adult life and metaphorically wiping their arses.

alreadytaken · 18/08/2013 14:20

teenagers whose parents don't take an interest are likely to be jealous of those whose parents do. Once they leave for uni we are unlikely to be doing much together so I intend to enjoy this last time and share their excitement.

Mine has already sussed where the nearest supermarket is and we talked about (but haven't bought) a bag with wheels to bring the drink back Smile.

Duchesse congratulations to your daughter, she should get offers this year.

duchesse · 18/08/2013 14:24

Fallon- "poor kids" My son was very relieved not to have to go and buy a load of things from his student loan. He was unconcerned about whether things were new, in fact using old things he was much less worried about the subsequent horrific treatment these things received at the hands of himself and his housemates. My part in my son's first two years of higher education has consisted in: Driving him to university with all his gear at the start of the year, and picking up him at the end of the summer term. One major shop at the start of each term/ money for one if he was going by train.

I had the opposite experience. I felt like the loneliest, most cut off undergraduate in college. I just think it's kind, when a child is moving away from the bosom of their family, to ease their way a tad. It's not like I'm down there doing his washing every week! (or driving 3 hours several times a week to make him special meals, as reported by a French friend of someone she knows... That kid will be a fun husband Hmm)

minsmum · 18/08/2013 14:26

My DD has inherited a box of crockery, cutlery etc from her mate who has just finished her last year so not a lot left to buy.
I suspect her friends mum encouraged her to donate it just to get it out of her house

MABS · 18/08/2013 15:04

the only thing dd has located is the nearest McDonalds! actually she is a very good cook, but not sure her loan with stretch to the ingredients she is used to ;-)

noddyholder · 18/08/2013 15:09

My friends son told all his housemates he was going to make his mum's fish pie for them ! he only did that once!

MotherOfGirls · 18/08/2013 15:46

DD is catered for the first year so I'm guessing she will need minimal crockery, cutlery and pans for when she feels like cooking. More next year when she moves out of halls. Also, she has been at boarding school and so has lots of bits and bobs for her room already. Feeling like I'm missing out on a shopping opportunity!

My son is moving straight into a house No halls! 6 of them and so far no communication re who is bringing what

MissMarplesBloomers · 18/08/2013 16:06

Grin Noddy- so 6 toasters, umpteen bottle openers & no kettles then?

Point them over here posters have been very good with ideas for DD's/ my lists!

MABS · 18/08/2013 16:26

so very 'male' Noddy..

noddyholder · 18/08/2013 16:27

I have a list on the go which he has glanced at but said nothing! We have a george forman grill so far as he lives on bacon (although as dp says it won;t be outdoor reared lol)

ISingSoprano · 18/08/2013 16:33

I'm certainly 'recycling' a few bits from my kitchen into ds's uni box. I've told him it will be comforting to use familiar items from home .... Wink
