Anyone starting an OU course in October?

After years off thinking about it I've just signed up for the BSc Psychology - am so excited!!

I am starting the Early Years Foundation Degree in October. I have been thinking about this for ages and decided to bite the bullet. I'm excited amd nervous how I will fit it around family and work etc.. How about you?

Yes, I'm slightly concerned about how I'll fit it round the family (hubby and 3dcs, youngest is 10 months) but I'm looking forward to a challenge!!

I'm hoping to start my MA in education with the OU in October will have a young baby but no other dc and I'll have my DH

Hopefully it will work out ok for us all! X

Hello! I'm supposed to be starting the Masters in Education too! Signed up earlier this year, but not sure whether to do it or to cancel. Materials arrived today and they look fab.

I studied a diploma in German a few years ago with the OU. Found them great.

Pumpkinpie- which module are you doing?

Hi I'm starting a BSc in Biology in Oct. Am very excited and slightly terrified. I've got a ds age 4 and dd age 2. I managed to get dd 11hours a week in nursery to help find time but she's not settling so panicking a little about when I'm going to find time!

I haven't signed up for a degree, but I did a French beginners course with them last year and have just signed up for the next course - still Level 1 but slightly more advanced. I might decide to do enough to get a degree eventually, but I don't feel ready to start thinking in those terms yet.

I'll be doing my final course for BA humanities with art history. I have DD aged 3.9 and DS 10 weeks! Maternity leave is a good thing, the exam is the week before I return to work.

I've sat exams when pg with both and with DD a toddler I had an EMA for a level 3. It was tough but I just had to accept that there was no room for anything else for a few months. I would have left this course for a year but with transition fees, it would have cost 3x as much if I did that. So you just have to dig in and think about the end result.

DH is on the final year of his MBA with the OU. I think he's found it harder working full time, plus kids at home, plus course. We study together and that's our life really!

I'm starting the BA in History, opens on 25th sep.

I've managed to find all the books I need for the first year second hand on eBay for a fraction of the price they were on Amazon for. I've just made the mistake of looking at the first assignment question before doing the work and I'm a bit overwhelmed by it all to be honest!

I have 3 DCs, 3 dogs and a part time job so I'm nervous but determined to fit it all in and achieve what I want from it.

Littlemissnormal, do you not get sent the books? I've never had to buy any as they send me all the books I need.

They sent me a load but I also needed other books like Fabers book of beasts and Dr Faustus.

Not starting, but I'm doing modules 2&3 in Oct, BSc Health Science so modules are Topics in Health Sciences (sk143) and Discovering Psychology (dse141). I guess if you are doing psych, you'll be doing dse141 too? :)

I have two DSs, nearly 3 and 16m, and am a sahm. My first exam for my first module (introducing health science, so one of the biology options DefiniteMaybe ) is in just under two weeks.....

I'm doing the Psychology degree as well. DSE212 this year.

Beyond I did DSE141 last year - I enjoyed it. Is your intro to health science SDK125? I was thinking about that for my second level one module.

Yep, its sdk125. It's been really interesting and I've done well at the ongoing assessment, have to wait and see how well I really understand it with next weeks exam

I'm registered for the Open degree, with the aim of mainly studying biology. I only registered to do one short course last year but found I had qualified for transitional funding so I registered for the degree to keep my options open, I don't intend to do the whole degree though (I already have one). I have found it really interesting so far. I have an EMA for Human Genetics to submit by tomorrow and am starting Forensic Science next month.

I said that too WhoKnows - beware, it is easy to get hooked! I was only going to do a couple of modules as an add-on to the OU Masters I'd done in an unrelated subject .

My original ancient degree is a modern languages BA from back in the day when you could study whatever took your fancy and still get a decent job at the end of it.

I have veered between thinking I will do the whole thing and then deciding not to, but realistically, it is a huge commitment from me and my DH and as I don't need it for my career I think that is too much. I really did only register to keep the transitional funding. I will probably finish the level one modules and then I want to study for some professional qualifications in my own field.

Anyway, got my EMA submitted this morning so I have a break for a few weeks now.

Tortoise and motherto4 I'm doing E891 - Educational Enquiry as my first module and then want to specialise in equality and diversity.

I've completed my registration and it all starts on 5th Oct eek!

I've just seen Martin Lewis on This Morning saying that students don't have to pay council tax. With DP working full time, me PT and doing a PT OU course, would we qualify for the discount does anyone know?

I know that as OU students we get the NUS discount card so I'm hopeful!
