I think you are doing everything you can, let her crash when she needs to and take her out when shes up to it to counter the boredom. Like everyone else I was hospitalised, and on a drip for both pregnacies.

Above all don't worry about the nutritional values of what she eats and don't let her. At one point when I started to improve I lived on stone cold curry Confused and basses Shandy Shock, had healthy happy babies though Wink

grandma (may I call you that?) sending best wishes to you and your dd. I had hyperemesis with first pregnancy and was hospitalised twice (for 7 days and then 8 days).

Let your dd know that whatever she wants you will do it. Personally I wasn't up to seeing anyone for very long at all which my own mother accepted (but ils less so Hmm)

One of the things that helped me was when people did stuff for my dh (so in your case your son in law). dh was fab, just like your son in law sounds, but still had to work full time and still wanted to me with me for scans etc. One lovely friend cooked him a meal late at night after visiting hours and deliberately made loads extra so he could just heat up the dinner for the next couple of nights. :)

Maybe you could buy her some fragrance free shower gel/products as most scented things make it a whole lot worse. my dh had to switch to unfragranced deodorant etc.

My dd is 7 now,but literally I cry when I meet people who are going through hyperemesis as I remember it so well. Close friend has it now, and I hope I have been supportive of her. She is at a later stage and I occasionally buy her plain buns/biscuits (she has told me that they help, I wouldn't dream of buying ginger nuts etc unless the person requested them!)

will take your advice on doing things for the SIL lovely man can"t speak to highly of him at the moment I know what the DD can eat and always take some with me when I visit

Please don't be so Sad, you're all powerless which is why its so awful. If your daughter turns out as loving and caring as you than this baby will be very very lucky.

grandmaagain · 12/02/2011 13:55

thank you for those kind words honeydragon they really are appreciated Smile I know she will be alright in the end,it just seems like a long way off! You are very thoughtful to reply and it does mean a lot.

Hello! I had hyperemesis twice and felt so very ill with it, but it eased by about 20 weeks. The first time round I jut wanted bucket loads of sympathy and second time round I just needed as much help as poss help looking after ds. unfortunately my mum lives 500 miles away, and having her nearby would have made things soo much better! But it does pass and I now look back at that stage as so much harder than the labour - I know which I'd prefer to go through! Best of luck to your dd.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/02/2011 14:22

Sorry to hear your DD is still suffering. Wish there was more advice that I could offer. But your support will mean a lot to her.

grandmaagain · 12/02/2011 18:22

thank you all for your support it is very comforting ,I feel for your mum washngo being so far away while you were so ill and having to be a distant granny, I adore having my eldest DG twice a week while mum and dad are in work and hope to have new baby as well Smile HG really is the "pits" I admit I had never heard of it til now but will try to stay on this site after new baby is born and try to be as kind to any other worried gran as you have all been to me!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/02/2011 06:49

Good to see an update and that your DD has come through another month. I'm not sure how many weeks she is now but the ketones is good news!
Is she taking any medication at the moment?

grandmaagain · 01/03/2011 22:16

hello ken thank you for replying it can get very lonely here. yes the DD is on a cocktail of medication to try and control the sickness, she is learning the best time to take it so as it has maximum effect but that is still a bit hit and miss.she is a lot more cheerful and sanguine about it and is just hoping that when she reaches 20 weeks things might calm down a bit (she is 18 weeks now) I am constantly amazed at her bravery and try to encourage her as much as I can ,I can be brave when I am with her but when I come home Sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Superb news! Mine dies off after about 26 weeks. I still threw up every day but it definitely eased off after that point.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/04/2011 20:34

How is your DD doing now?

grandmaagain · 10/04/2011 22:50

thank you for your continued support Smile she is quite a bit better, managing her sickness to the usual morning bile run then not eating til lunch time after which she finds she can keep most food down. her energy levels are still low and she is still signed off work however her spirits are much improved and she is happier for the positive 20 week scan which really gave them both a boost, despite everything they were told about HG not affecting babies growth I think they were very worried as she had lost over 2 stone!Sad
