I am so proud.

Can anyone tell me what it actually means please?

Am not telling DD as I don't want to make her feel pressured or worried. Thought I would tell you guys instead!

Her teacher explained that DD wrote some sentences down just from listening to the teacher saying them, and she spelt the words right as she recognised them from reading. I remember she wrote correctly ate, flowers and tail.

Awww, congratulatins to your DD. You have every right to be proud.
How old is your DD? She sounds a lovely, bright little girl.

She is 4 3/4. She is bright, not always lovely! Especially when calling her brother an idiot.

nab same here with dd she is 5 in reception and has been into yr2 classes for reading and numeracy.
never knew until parents evening. She is only on ort 1-2 but breezing. And teachers says let her cruise and take it easy for now.
I thought she was doing well but had no idea of how well! Dd knew how to spell "news" and all her colours and numbers!
teacher was amazed.
Its all good
boast away and be damned!

LOL.

Thanks and well done to your DD too.

I am just glad they have got how good she was. The last time I tried to talk about it I was told they didn't know what to do with her as she was so good.

It is hard to see where she is as they aren't doing the colour schemes they were 2 years ago when DS1 was in Reception.

I remember when she was 3 at nursery the staff were amazed that she could just look at a pile of counters and know instantly which was the biggest pile and how many were in each one.

She gets it all from me!!

I'm sure your daughter is exceptionally bright and you have every right to be proud of her.

But I find it completely ridiculous that the government regards the top 5-10% of each year as 'gifted/talented'.

Yes these bright kids should be stimulated/encouraged at the right level intellectually but the label is absurd.

Also the top 10% of one school is not going to equate with another.

Can anyone explain to me what happens through there school life once put on this register?
