She sat at the table drawing this morning and said 'mummy, i've written a song for you', so i said 'ooh, how lovely! sing it!' so she sang

Twinkle twinkle little star, you have farted in my car.
Twinkle twinkle little star, you are wearing daddy's bra.

Well. The rhyming is spectacular no?

It's so beautiful I have a soft tear running down my cheek. It's a gift alright. Just as well it wasn't at a dinner party

Boco · 20/01/2008 12:23

Bless you Quickdraw, both for your exquisite taste in poetry and for retrieving me from the dustbin of unanswered threads!

maybe the next poet laureate? Can be blather on and talk crap too? Another sign of a 'great artiste in the making.'

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 12:28

Boco I expected nothing less from the child of your loins

it captures the essence of the mutable and somehow ephemeral yet earthy nature of stars, I feel

I also like the twist ending of "daddy's bra", I feel the poet plays with our pre-conceptions of gender and masculinity here, to evoke a new understanding of our role in the cosmic dance

Boco · 20/01/2008 12:32

Oh Franny - you've got it!

And later, when she was singing it again and trying to teach her sister, I asked her what a star fart would smell like, and she rolled her eyes and said 'jumpers'. And then shrieked 'star jumpers!' and began doing earnest star jumps.

I mean, I wonder if I'm able to meet the needs of this child, she's operating on a whole different level.

yes well at least you have spotted her potential

if you send her to me I can tutor her for a mere £2500 a month

it will be worth it when you see her name on one of those sleek Faber and Faber volumes

anorak · 20/01/2008 12:36

Interesting that she chose the word 'farted'. Did she juxtapose a harsh word that says so much about the times we like in against the backdrop of the stars as a philosophical statement? Or is she merely trying to shock?

This would make an excellent performance piece.

anorak · 20/01/2008 12:37

live in

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 12:38

anorak I felt this showed her ability to straddle the timeless and modern worlds

she moves effortlessly from the sacred to the profane; I really think you ARE unlikely to be able to meet her needs Boco, and should turn her care over to someone more capable as soon as possible

Boco · 20/01/2008 12:43

You're onto something there anorak. Actually she uses the word 'fart' and the word 'poo' in a great deal of her work. Often together, and in her performance pieces she shouts them dramatically. Wonderful.

I'm flinging a few of her belongings into her pink ballerina case as we speak Franny, can you meet her from the station? I'll have to owe you the fee, maybe take an iou until the book deal comes off?

Boco · 20/01/2008 12:49

Couldn't she earn her keep weaving wnaky baskets?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 12:53

no that will be part of her slavery spiritual development class anyway

in fact there will be an extra charge for materials, I forgot

Boco · 20/01/2008 14:06

Ok fair enough. Have put the house on the market, will move into the shed, I'm sure it'll all pay off in the long run!

Blandmum · 20/01/2008 14:08

and if she doesn't make poet laureate by the time she is 10 you must blame the school for not having done enough to develop her prodigious talent!

Blandmum · 20/01/2008 14:10

re the use of the word 'Fart', I feel that you are all taking a far too symplistic analysis of this child's amazing work.

She has obviously used 'Fart' to tie humanity to the cosmic winds of the Universe.

She is placing Humankind within the cosmos. Astonishing for one of her age

dippydeedoo · 20/01/2008 14:14

lmao.....you mumsnetters are mad....i clicked this expecting some proud mum with a child prodigy(SP)- youll(or her dad) will be sorry when the entire reception class knows the words lolol

Twiglett · 20/01/2008 14:14

but surely there's also the referencing of to the passing of the ages .. the span of the centuries through the juxtaposition of the use of the word 'fart' which, as we all know, is well-rooted in the Victorian era with the modern day car

no, truly a timeless piece

Boco · 20/01/2008 14:47

Do you think I should appoint myself as her manager and we could do a tour of local shopping centres and out of town retail venues. It could be like a highbrow version of Barrymores thing, without the dancing. It's just not fair that i'm the only one to really benefit from all this raw talent.
