are you serious?

snice · 25/11/2007 22:59

Perhaps you have slopey floors?

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 25/11/2007 23:00
Hmm
TotalChaos · 25/11/2007 23:00

It's on the early side of normal, but I wouldn't be assuming gifted quite yet. DS rolled over early (6 weeks) and started babbling earlyish (5 months), and now has very delayed speech and understanding. So these early milestones don't necessarily mean very much.

colditz · 25/11/2007 23:01

Yes, she is gifted. Start her on flash cards immediately, or you will miss this window of opportunity.

seriously, 4 weeks is early. She's strong.

gigglewitch · 25/11/2007 23:05

err, lucky (or is that unlucky?)
mine all smiled at 3-4 weeks. i think they saw daddy
enrol her in school immediately, and start the university applications for when she is 7
what a prodigy

My DS rolled from his front to his back at 3 weeks. He didn't do it again until nearly 4 months later so I wouldn't read too much into it! Smiling at 3 weeks is wind isn't it?

I'm not aware that early physical prowess has any bearing on future intelligence though!

minorityrules · 25/11/2007 23:16

my doc always said "a smile was a smile ad would you smile if you had wind" lol

one of mine smiled at 3 days old, we got it on video and she continued proper smiling from then on. She didn't start rolling til 3 months though

pregnantbabyelephant · 25/11/2007 23:21

Have you checked her for fins?

Twinklemegan · 25/11/2007 23:27

Actually, I do remember my DS smiling pretty early as well. He went on to be a very friendly, smiley baby and now toddler.

pregnantbabyelephant · 25/11/2007 23:31

i put it down to her being born in the water she is so confident in the water today she was laughing in the pool she was in the pool for 40 mins didnt want to get out

My DD didn't roll over until she was 7.5months- super late! She walked independently 2 weeks later so super early! She was sitting (unsupported for 5mins at a time) at 3 months and crawled at 5months so maybe didn't see the need to roll. The HV wanted her assessed for delays as she didn't roll! I had to fight the assessment as I knew she was strong.
It is lovely when they smile- I put DDs first few weeks of smiling down to wind until all the relatives thought otherwise. No idea when she smiled though!

IdrisTheDragon · 26/11/2007 08:59

DD was very late at rolling. And moving. She did have a lovely phase of sitting and playing and not moving which went on for 4 months and was very nice (spot the NSC here ).

She finally moved at 10.5 months and finally decided she might as well roll at 11.5 months .

Miaou · 26/11/2007 09:00

rofl at this

ds2 rolled over at 3 weeks. In front of all my toddler group friends who were cooing over him at the time (I'm sure they wouldn't have believed me otherwise!). He has held his head up from birth, sat with support from 1 month and supported his own weight on his feet from 3 months. No way do I think he is gifted though!! It's a trick (or a series of tricks) he can perform.

As a comparison, dd1 couldn't roll over on her own until she was over a year old. She is now ten and gifted (according to school, ie not just me who thinks so). As a baby she didn't do anything early!

vacua · 26/11/2007 09:24

is this for real?

pregnantbabyelephant · 26/11/2007 09:49

oh yeah dd does that too, supporting her own weight has done since she was about 2-3 months too

miaou-i know what you mean about being glad your friends where there to see your lo roll so early, my hv doesn't beleive me!!

what are your thoughts on smiling in th womb, could that be wind too?

evenhope · 26/11/2007 10:55

I thought the title was tongue-in-cheek?

All I would say is that DS2 rolled at 3 weeks; was pushing himself up on his arms at his 6 week check (to the amazement of the Dr); crawling (backwards) at 4 months and pulling himself up on the furniture at 5 months. It was a PITA at the time as people with same-age babies treated him as if he was much older, telling him to "be careful" of their babies as if he could understand

And it turned out he had ADHD

I'm so pleased that DD2 seems to be boringly average so far and is reaching her milestones later than her siblings and more in line with her peers.

perpetualworrier · 26/11/2007 11:11

My DS1 didn't roll over until after he could walk at 15 months and he's on the gifted and talented list - note I don't say he is gifted though.

snorkle · 26/11/2007 12:09

Not gifted, but definitely talented! I'd say it was exceptionally advanced physical co-ordination. It might go on to mean she's a great sportsperson or it might not. You may also need to 'baby-proof' your house sooner than most .
