Year 5 CAT scores

New here but just wanted some advice. Just dropped my summer born son (I think that's relevant as he is one of the youngest in his year) at school. He's year 5. The headteacher came up to me to talk about his CAT scores. Said they are the best scores she's ever seen in her career, not just from her school but other schools too and the teachers were just all blown away. We've always known he was clever and loves maths and he wants to do the grammar test but never been told anything like this about him before!

Any advice? We've been through the grammar system before and he wants to do some practise papers and books so will sort that. We haven't ever planned on getting a tutor though.

Thank you cockney girl. Yes definitely a bit of a bad loser but a lot lot better than he used to be!
We've done some virtual grammar tours
I'm very aware that I dont want him to go to top one due to the pressure and lack of pastoral care.

@slowmover

Hi why is your school testing NVR and VR?

Is it a private school?

For primary I didn't think schools would test on nvr or vr?

You are wrong as they have tested on these. As do other primary non private schools round here.

OP. Congrat's to your DS on his great scores.

With high scores like that I think he's unlikely to experience any significant pressure at the grammar. It's more likely that you'll need to work on helping him to remain and stay engaged enough to get the grades he's capable of, as it's likely that everything academic will come very easily to him and he may be bored.

I agree your son has done very well, especially if he is from a school where children aren’t getting 140s regularly. My daughter and others in her year have obtained the same scores - she gets 140 each year but I don’t know about the others historically - and no one has batted an eyelid about it at her school. They are very easy tests tbh but still it’s easy to make a silly mistake.
