Bad attitude of some of you here

There's a lot of bad attitude on here. Culture of underachievement and all that. It's sad and a bit shocking really when these children are the ones who really need the help and the resources and aren't getting it. My daughter is four and I'm not abashed to say the word 'genuis'. In front of her or not. It isn't a bad word, it's what she is and I love her for it.

How do I know? Oh please, this is the child who was playing - meaningully - with abacus at 3 months. Now four she has read Secret Seven and is working on newspapers. She has her own email.

So shoot me. My daughter is gifted, there, I said it. Why the bad attitude?

Is there such a thing as a 'gifted baby' ? Really ?

My DD was ahead of her peers in almost everything, at 2yrs old we were told that she had the speech and vocabulary of a 5 year old. However, now she is 4yrs old and at school is as average as average can be. Have I stunted her intellectual growth ?

Hot-housing your offspring from the day they are born is not generally a good idea.

Hehehehehe!

noddyholder · 21/02/2007 11:46

Assuming she is a genius maybe she could use her exceptional gift to teach her mother some sense as obviously the brains didn't come from her!

Being especially interested in maths (albeit not at 3 months whoch really proves this is either a poof or a deluded person- I mean, where is the motor control ) and seeking out the company of adults isn't just signs of genius, btw. If I were you, I woulod concentrate on the social skills front.

charlieq · 21/02/2007 11:48

lollymum be careful
I got feted as a genius too by my parents & some primary teachers, because I could read adult stuff at 3/4, etc etc.

It did me no good whatever. And imho was much more about THEIR needs to be 'special' and not mine. Not to scare you too much but I certainly have mental health issues now a lot of which I think stem from the perfection which was always expected of me.

so perhaps focus on allowing dd to do what she really enjoys without trying to emphasise her difference from her peers? I was a really lonely child & got bullied.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 21/02/2007 11:49

my favourite quote of all time

"this is the child who was playing - meaningully - with abacus at 3 months"

ROFL

lotrl · 21/02/2007 11:49

by the way my name is a reference to Lord of the Rings.

PeachyClair, how does one's maths brilliance dictate one's sexuality?

astronomer · 21/02/2007 11:49

aren't all boys like that - fighting is a sign of affection in our house when they get back from school

NuttyMuffins · 21/02/2007 11:49

I agree with you NDP.

Dd1 was quite advanced in development as a baby and has always been keen to learn etc and always had great marks at school.

I am very proud of her and tell her so, but thats where it stops, she is a child and imo deserves to behave like one instead of a mini adult and the pressure of thinking she must do well in everything.

noddyholder · 21/02/2007 11:50

Aah american I see

NbgsYellowFeathers · 21/02/2007 11:50

In answer to your earlier question, no we dont do teletubbies. Prefer Spongebob.

But I can totally see why you'd think reading about Murder, Terrorism, Rape, abuse, war and why Brittany Spears shaved her head would be a good thing to read to a 4 year old.

Actually maybe not Brittany. Not sure the Times covers plebbish stories like that.

wotzsaname · 21/02/2007 11:50

Just popped back. Nope I left before you posted where you were from, not that it matters.

lotrl - what does the final l stand for?

colditz · 21/02/2007 11:52

Do you know, I know a woman who has a child thesame age as ds1. And at 9 weeks old, the child was trying to say "I love you mummy".

I know he was, because she told me.

astronomer · 21/02/2007 11:52

not jealous just gifted - at getting out of the way before the fur really starts flying

Ok Lollymum, have to take it back -- you sound a bit em..
thought it was extremely rude of you to tell someone to leave a thread, youve no right to do that and why bother posting in the first place if you dont want people to discuss......

flutterbee · 21/02/2007 11:53

Newpapers aimed at younger readers = The daily sport and the Star, they have fantastic pictures in.

PeachyClair · 21/02/2007 11:53

ha bloody ha

as regulars tend to know I have eyesight problems and cant type very well as I cannot see the screen well

most people have the manners not to comment and hopefully ALL would realise that I would never use the term poof, its proof
