ds2 wants to apply, he is capable afaik. He's now y5, has level 5s in all core subjects and reading age beyond the scale for that particular test (so 16+) last year. He doesn't appear to know he's clever Grin but likes the idea of that school and its opportunities. pointers would be most welcome Smile

Hi gabby,

Sorry to be a pain could I also ask for tutors details?

Many thanks x

Just jumping back on here to announce that my DS got into Bluecoat - group A, got the offical offer email yesterday but we'd known since the test results that he would be in.

We are delighted. I didn't get him a tutor in the end, but I did get him to do a Bond assessment paper in English and maths most weeks. And then a couple of practice papers the week before the tests. I think it helped that he also sat a couple of other ones in the area before Bluecoat so he realised he could do it.

I wasn't expecting him to come out of the Bluecoat test laughing and saying it was easy, but he did! I think it was because he found the English writing task something he could do (newspaper report rather than a creative writing piece) and so was relieved.

Anyway, yes it can be done. He has been coming home from school with 100% on practice level 6 maths papers so I think he'll do ok there. Was slightly worried a year ago that he would be bottom at Bluecoat if he got in and it would knock his confidence.

For anyone interested, I know of at least 1 person who got into group c on the test that was offered a place. You don't have to get into the top results group necessarily to be offered a place.

Good luck to everyone going through the exam prep now - so stressful but worth it!

Hi,

I've been reading everyone's posts and found it really useful.

My son is in a Knowsley primary school and I am hoping to apply to Blue Coats (he still has a few years) as I don't think the Knowsley high schools are very good.

I want to get him a tutor to support him during his last few years so he is in a good position to apply for Blue Coats. Can anyone recommend any tutors?

Many thanks

Hello Liverpool mums,
Could anyone kindly recommend an excellent tutor for my 9 year old daughter who is keen to get into bluecoats . Any advice is much appreciated.

Pengip · 20/07/2015 21:50

Also looking for a recommended tutor. Seems everyone I ask says that tutors are booked for several years ahead. The frenzy puts you in a panic! I don't need the tutor for another year but would prefer someone decent with good reputation. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi I'm looking for tutors for my son for entrance exam for blue coats, can anyone recommend anyone plz?

JAnks · 15/08/2016 13:32

Hello all,

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading this thread, but I am a private tutor based in Woolton VIllage. I provide one on one preparation for 11+, NVR and entrance exams, including Blue Coat (I am a former pupil, too!).

I don't think I can link to my site here, but if you search for "Dr John Ankers Woolton", you'll find me.

I hope I can be of help.

Best wishes,

John.

Cara0105 · 17/10/2017 16:09

Hi is anyone waiting on their childs results for this year? Also any people from previous years can you let me know when did you receive the email? Is it a set time or randomly throughout the day? Thanks

Mayada22 · 24/10/2017 20:42

We got our letter 3 weeks after exam which confirms a place if your child is accepted in band A. I have no experience in others bands. I do know some have thier letters already this year.
Once you have the letter, and its positive, you have a place guarranteed. Filling in the council choice is tgen an academic exercise.

Mayada22 · 24/10/2017 20:45

We used tutorhunt to find a tutor. As an academic myself i am very much for senior peer tutoring, which is where you use an older student. Tutor hunt has several senior students at bluecoats, with some teaching experience. It worked great and far better in my view than getting a general entrance exam older tutor...

Mayada22 · 24/10/2017 20:50

in answer to aazanwar.....bluecoat does not have an oficial catchment area. They take the highest 180 out of around a 1000 that take tge entrance exams. Its practically down to you to ensure hour kids can travel. Many have privat taxis, buses.....parents get together to arrange travel from an area sometimes. My daughter travels 15 miles with me as i work nearby. She gets there quicker than local children walking and using buses......must consider practicality of it all though

Lockdownmum21 · 24/03/2021 20:37

Hopping on here not sure if closed. However, we are in knowsley and whilst our son has a few years to go we are bot confident in secondary schools within knowsley. I see on this thread that other schools are mentioned in Liverpool for exams. Also can anyone recommend schools of a good standard should exam route not be an option that would be within knowsley catchment as listening to some families they are not even getting any of their third choices.
Apologies for the long post or ignorance but obviously just trying to get a feel for things as we don't know the areas. any advice gratefully received. Tia

Doing some research shows bluecoats being an obvious one although what are people's experience as some chat negativity. I see on some threads that other schools are mentioned in Liverpool for exams but can only see girls schools are there any for cooed or boys. Also can anyone recommend schools of a good standard should exam route not be an option that would be within knowsley catchment as listening to some families they are not even getting any of their third choices.

Hi that sounds so much like my daughter. Was the teacher Mes Noaman?

Lynal · 21/06/2022 23:30

Hi sorry to reply to an old thread but I was hoping you could share your tutor details please? I’m out of the area and finding it difficult to identify a suitable tutor for my son for the Bluecoat exam. I’d be so grateful for your suggestions.
