My baby just rolled off our bed while my back was turned for a second (he's never rolled that far before). He cried for a few minutes but seems ok now. I feel so terrible and don't know what to do. Should I take him to A&E, just in case?

all I said was it could have and should have been avoided!!! Whats wrong with that?
my opinion sucks...do I care?!!! I believe in what I believe in sorry if it upsets you!!

Toothache · 15/08/2005 09:38

Mum2some1 - What if you child fell down the stairs then,... you get scared and worried..... post on MN asking for advice.... then someone says "Well, what do you expect when you put your child in danger of having accidents". Not nice.

I have stairgates, more dangerous to fall down the stairs than it is to tumble off a low bed IMO!!!

mumtosomeone · 15/08/2005 09:40

wouldnt leave a child that couldnt cope with stairs up stairs alone!!!
No my kids arent tied to my apron strings. Yes they fell when learning to walk etc. But never fell off a bed or down the stairs. am I tempting fete? wouldnt post just after a fall either...would be with child. There I have upset you even more!!!!

handlemecarefully · 15/08/2005 09:43

"like Littlestar left the baby teetering on a high shelf over burning coals"

Oh toothache, you've made me giggle with that description! (not in a sarcy way!)

littlestar · 15/08/2005 09:44

I'm still here, I know I was stupid to leave DS on the bed, what can I say?

NHS Direct have advised me to take him to casualty, which is where we are off to now.

mumtosomeone · 15/08/2005 09:45

Littlestar - it happens to all of the less than perfect mums - I'm one of them!

Watch out for vomiting or baby being too drowsy to wake up. Obviously you could take him to A&E just to get him checked out.

sweetkitty · 15/08/2005 09:48

I was in the bed with my DD when she fell off it I managed to catch her bum before she really hurt herself, I was inches away from her when it happened I hadn't abandoned her on the bed, it's so easy to do but still makes you feel like crap and the worst mother ever.

DD has just learned to walk in the past 5 days and is sporting a huge green bruise on her forehead (she fell against the wall) what was I supposed to do move the wall? Doesn't stop the disapproving comments from family though!!

Toothache · 15/08/2005 09:48

Mum2some1 - I think you are being really confrontational this morning! Why would you deliberately try to stir things with that last comment???? That's clearly what you were doing. So Littlestar is now irresponsible because she spent 15 seconds typing a concern on MN? I think you perhaps need to think a bit more before you let your fingers run away with you!

I'm going to do something I rarely do.... I'm going to leave it. Really don't want to be encouraging someone who is deliberate winding people up.

anchovies · 15/08/2005 09:49

I'm sure he's fine littlestar, at least this way you'll be reassured. Don't worry about it - accidents happen.

aloha · 15/08/2005 09:49

Oh NHS Direct ALWAYS say go to Casualty! I really, really wouldn't unless your baby is unconcious/vomiting etc. They'll make you wait for hours and hours then send you home (after questioning you!).
My baby fell off the bed - I was standing right next to the bed looking right at him at the time! He made a tremendous noise but was absolutely fine.

sweetkitty · 15/08/2005 09:55

I agree with aloha I wouldn't go to casualty either but if it puts your mins at rest then it's completely up to you.

Just watch him closely for the next couple of hours, don't stress too much about it as most people have said it happens, makes you feel lousy, but it happens.

handlemecarefully · 15/08/2005 09:59

No, you wouldn't get me going to Casualty either. But as a mum of more than one I guess you build up 'maternal confidence'. With my first baby I no doubt would have hot footed it to Casualty, and would have been as worried as you are now.

weesaidie · 15/08/2005 10:09

my wee one fell head first off the couch at about 8 months or so... and I was also right next to her but not quick enough! I phoned my doctors and she said NOT to go to casualty or even come to see her without the symptoms some posters have mentioned.

DD was just fine. Has a big lump/bruise today too (16 months) - have been trying to hide it with her fringe!

Hope your little one is ok littlestar, sure he will be.

mumtosomeone · 15/08/2005 10:38

wasnt deliberatly winding anyone up!!!
Just commenting on things said!

Milge · 15/08/2005 10:39

littlestar - hope your baby is ok, My dd fell off the bed after her first roll. I thought she was ok, but was clearly in pain all morning and finally took her to casualty - broken leg! You will get enough lectures from the hospital without people on here adopting such a moral high note. If your baby is ok, playing happily, moving all limbs/head ok, feeding ok, is alert etc i would think s/he is fine. You can join the club of crap mothers of which there are apparantly many on MN.

you lot take stuff so personally!!

bythesouthsea · 15/08/2005 10:52

New to Mumsnet today! - what a laugh reading all the banter. Littlestar - hope all is ok, general rule of thumb if baby/child falls from height greater than self then seek medical advice if not then generally ok - from a paedeatric consultant.

mumtosomeone · 15/08/2005 10:53

welcome!!!
I am friendly really although everyone seems to be against me on here!!!

bythesouthsea · 15/08/2005 10:57

Thanks! - Already see I could spend hours on here when should be working! Interesting comments re stair gates - we did with no. 1 but no cupboard lock/door stoppers etc as more concerned need to learn re other peoples houses - tempted to leave gates for no.2 - hmmmm

littlestar · 15/08/2005 11:21
