mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:04

any ideas what it could be apart from a major heart block

Im a nurse, know what it should be but its 40-45 atm, Im not an athlete although am training atm (only been for 2 months), my heart rate has been normal when exercising (130-140)

My BP is fine

Could it be garlic capsules?

Just trying to decide if im off to A&E Any cardiac nurses out there?

Hmmm have you had your thyroid checked?

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:12

no, i know it can be related to thyroid, but surely id have some other symptoms.
I am worryingly lightheaded today though

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 07/05/2010 22:13

So that's two symptoms then?

If your neighbour came round now with this history what would you say?

loopylou6 · 07/05/2010 22:14

Maybe get it checked - the lightheadiness could be caused by the worrying maybe?

Its extremely reasurring that your BP is normal though.

How long has it been like this for?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:18

Call an ambulance before you pass out (been here and done that )

giraffesCANdriveAcar · 07/05/2010 22:19

A&E missus If you are a nurse and you are worried it must be bad, nurses are usually not fussed unless their heads falling off or soemthing.

loopylou6 · 07/05/2010 22:19

Also, have you started on any new meds?

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:20

i did my BP at the inlawsa tonight and the pulse rate was 41. Ive doe ne it manually since and its never above 50.
Are you a cardiac nurse?
I know feck all about the heart really
Would my bp be altered if it was some sort of heart block?
Would you wait to see dr next week rather than doing A&E?

OP posts:
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:22

Medication can do this, it's the normal cause, heart block is the next one down. Please go and get it checked, call an ambulance, it's Friday so it'll be a big change for the ambulance crew. I can't stay up to nag so give them a call so I can go to bed (please)

Northernlurker · 07/05/2010 22:23

You had a nasty infection after childbirth didn't you? Is that entirely cleared up? No chance that's flaring again?

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:23

giraffes after whats happened to me in the last 6 months i am always thinking the worst!

If it was my neighbour id tell them to get to A&E, but im troo tired and A&E on a friday night is really like hell on earth.

Ive started taking garlic capsules, thats all

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:24

i had mrsa, but i was clear in march and not likely to be a cause of bradycardia i dont think

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 07/05/2010 22:24

'Im too tired' - or too unwell? Is anyone there with you?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:25

You should get it checked. It's bradycardia. Unless you are a superduper fab athelete it's not normal. You should get it checked as it's either medication induced (depending on what you are taking) or a sign of something else.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:26

mosschops, call an ambulance. It's early for a Friday so you won't get to meet the nightlife if you are really quick.

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:27

im not unwell, just tired. dh is here and the dcs
ive phoned my paramedic friend, he doesnt know what it could be apart from heart block

its 51 now just taken it again

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:28

i can drive to the hospital from here, i wont call an ambulancxe for a slow heart rate

OP posts:
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:29

51's still a tad on the slow side, it should be about 60 resting.

BookAnt · 07/05/2010 22:29

Can you get someone to drive you instead of you driving??

MaryMotherOfManchego · 07/05/2010 22:29

Mosschops, phone your out of hours doctor now. You're in the same city as me. They're usually very nice and will talk sense to you.

They also know more about these things than MN.

uglymugly · 07/05/2010 22:30

Yes, A&E on Friday is like hell on earth, but the staff there would much prefer to have you as a patient (rather than the spewing timewasters) because your symptoms are the kind they really really want to focus on. Do yourself a favour, and them, and go to A&E. You're worth it, and so are they.

Thelongroadhome · 07/05/2010 22:31

What about phoning Nhs 24? Hope you're ok.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 07/05/2010 22:32

Fellow nurse here, I second get the OOH GP to check you. Well in self, I wouldn't do a&e or ambulance myself. But you do need a Dr to assess you

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/05/2010 22:34

The book says:
if asymptomatic (no symptoms) and heart rate is above 40bpm no treatment is required, could be due to hyperthyroidism, medication, sick sinus syndrome. If under 40 this requires treatment.

It's from a doctors book if this makes any difference.

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:35

will try NHS direct, dh is going to think im going soooo over the top. I hate going to A&E I always feel such a fraud and feel as if i should have something better to do than time waste
