mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:04

any ideas what it could be apart from a major heart block

Im a nurse, know what it should be but its 40-45 atm, Im not an athlete although am training atm (only been for 2 months), my heart rate has been normal when exercising (130-140)

My BP is fine

Could it be garlic capsules?

Just trying to decide if im off to A&E Any cardiac nurses out there?

I had this a couple of years ago, I passed out on the sofa though. This is why I told you to get it checked. Do you feel unwell? Lightheaded? Pain? Palpitations?

NorkyButNice · 07/05/2010 22:38

Do you know what your pulse normally is? I mean yours personally, rather than what's "normal"?

Mine is normally about 50 or just under and I'm certainly no athlete! It dropped down to high 30s while I was in labour with DS!

It's always commented on by HCPs but they say as long as it's normal for you, you don't need to worry.

Try not to panic (although that might increase it...)

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 22:42

i do feel lightheaded and have on and off for a few weeks (maybe once a week), other tahn that im fine, have had a cold but am still exercising 5 times a week, no problems walking to school and back.

Whats normal for me is hard at the moment, Ive always had very low bp, but after my accident in december it remained high but is coming down and tonight was 114/71. My pulse was always fairly txt book about 70-80

I realy really dont want to go out, as long as i dont die overnight i can hang on til tomorrow

You're lightheaded because your heart isn't pumping enough oxygen to your brain, this makes you slightly symptomatic so I do now suggest you pop to A&E and get them to check you over. They may wish to give you some treatment or not but they need to assess you. It won't take long, they'll just do an ECG, it's a 20 minute job.

MaryMotherOfManchego · 07/05/2010 22:49

have you phoned anyone for advice?

OrganicHairbrush · 07/05/2010 22:56

Go to A&E. A serious form of heart block would be very unlikely, but you know you have all the symptoms, and it does happen. From my experience (and yes, I do have heart block) A&E has always whizzed me through ahead of the pissheads and sprained wrists, even at peak time...

lou031205 · 07/05/2010 23:15

Mosschops you are a nurse, so you know that it is about so much more than a number.

What is the quality of the pulse like? Is it thready or bounding?
What is the pattern of the pulse? Regular, irregular, regularly irregular, irregularly irregular?

giraffesCANdriveAcar · 08/05/2010 06:13

how are you?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/05/2010 15:52

She was around last night giraffes, she just hasn't been back on here.

mosschops30 · 09/05/2010 18:51

thanks for the concern and I wasnt on here last night I was out with the family (i obviously just give the impression that I dont do anything other than be on MN [wink}

I am fine, I didnt go to A&E but did a hefty gym session on saturday and got my HR up to 136 so I figured that if it was anything serious I would not be exercising for over an hour at a good HR.

I did it again today and it was 51.

I have to see GP this week so will get it checked then.

Thanks all so much for being like cyber parents saying 'just get down A&E'

OrganicHairbrush · 09/05/2010 21:49

I've been told by my GP that if mine ever goes below 50 to go to A&E. Not that I took her advice, though either

Please,let us know...

skihorse · 10/05/2010 08:07

That's a normal (good!) heartrate for someone who does a lot of exercise.

If you're displeased with your healthy circulatory system, have a strong coffee and a fag and measure again.

"That's a normal (good!) heartrate for someone who does a lot of exercise.

Healthy? I wish... I fucking wish. Generally speaking, it's good netiquette to read through an entire thread before ripping the piss out of an individual posting on it. If you'd done that you'd realise that I have the very heart disease OP most fears, and that OP seems to understand what she's fearing. If you don't understand the terms used then ask.

And please, don't advocate anyone to smoke. It's really not on.

Let's now keep this about OP...

Shaz10 · 10/05/2010 09:31

Was that not a reply to mosschops?

skihorse · 10/05/2010 09:35

Shaz Correct, it was. I'd have thought the winky following the ciggie comment was a bit of a giveaway too...

OrganicHairbrush · 10/05/2010 09:39

I'm sorry. From my reading of the thread I didn't see that. But I'm literally sitting waiting for a phone call for yet more test results... all a bit close to the bone. I'm sorry.

Shaz10 · 10/05/2010 09:40

Hope all goes well.

alypaly · 11/05/2010 00:41
