How long will it take for me to feel 'normal' again?? Have totally had enough and want the alien thing out.

Meant to add I went to the gp over 2 weeks ago and she was seeking advice about my symptoms and would get back to me. I am still waiting. I am going to go this week and have it removed/

Is it a Mirena by chance. Apparently, once it's out you have about ten days of feeling like shit then it's over.

They don't like you having them out because they cost quite a lot of money and they have to throw them away obviously.

Take lots of painkillers two hours before you go!

bargainhuntingbetty · 11/04/2010 19:25

Yes it is the Mirena. Is it bad to get it out?? I keep putting on weight, have TERIBLE headaches which make me feel sooooo sick, am tired lots. I work with small kids and dont need to be feeling like this, I cant do it anymore.

its not bad to have it out, its your choice but the nhs dont like taking them out so soon after putting them in. but if you want it out, its your decision not the nhs's

bargainhuntingbetty · 11/04/2010 19:45

I have had it in for 14 months now so this is not as if I have not let it settle. Cant take it anymore.

whomovedmychocolate · 11/04/2010 19:47

Apparently you get a bad period afterwards but if you have side effects well worth that I'd think! I do remember the GP telling me they cost about £100 each in the UK and they don't like taking them out because of this. I scurried away saying 'I'll think about it' and then convinced DH to have the snip instead!

sungirltan · 11/04/2010 19:49

fwiw i had no side effects when i had mine out. it was a mirena. promise.

bargainhuntingbetty · 11/04/2010 19:49

My gp said I could have it out if I wanted it out as I had given it a good go but I cant deal with the headaches and constant bleeding anymore. Soemthing needs to be done about it.

I couldn't have the Mirena because I am sensitive to Progesterone (sp?).

I suffered from headaches and gained weight plus had the additional delight of constant 'stab-your-husband' PMT when taking the mini-pill, so had a standard coil fitted instead.

bargainhuntingbetty · 11/04/2010 19:59

Might try a standard coil. I have PCOS and this was the answer they gave me for it. Tried it and it didnt work.

I had my Mirena coil removed as we wanted to TTC.I had horrendous bleeding after for a week or so.Very very heavy with huge clots but no pain whatsoever which was weird!
But everyone is different of course, just thought I'd mention it!I also got pregnant the week after I had it removed, sadly I miscarried but obviously make sure you use some contraception!

bargainhuntingbetty · 12/04/2010 10:47

Thank you Mumcah. Appreciate the reply.

Bargainhunting

I have PCOS and when I first asked about an IUD my gp tried to push get me to have a Mirena. She didnt give a valid reason ie it would help the PCOS just that it was the current modern and IUD of choice nowadys.

I explained I didnt want anotehr hormone throwing into the mix after years of hormonal disturbance. I have also recently found out hormonal contraceptives should be avoided with people who have previously had Obstectric Choleastasis

I have a Multiload and I am very happy with it. I had one prior to TTC with DS2 and I dint find the removal horrific at all

I am at the cost of £100 for Mirena and found out other IUDs come in at around £10. I still think it a very cost effective device

bargainhuntingbetty · 12/04/2010 18:21

Thanks Oldraver. I am going later this week to have the evil thing removed.

OP posts:
ihatethecold · 12/04/2010 19:12

what is a multiload???

whomovedmychocolate · 13/04/2010 12:02

I thought a multiload was a washing machine function

Chaotica · 13/04/2010 17:59

I felt better very quickly, although the weight has been hard to shift. It was totally easy to have removed (and I have an ordinary one now which is fine).

BTW I can't believe that you've had the mirena recommended for PCOS - it often makes that worse...

CLOVER81 · 13/04/2010 19:34

Go too the family planning clinic they take it out then and there no questions and best of all they dont talk you out of it i had a 10 day period after it was out then that was it back too normal

bargainhuntingbetty · 15/04/2010 16:21

Am going to the family planning clinic tomorrow morning as I can stand it no more. It will be removed there and then and I will see how I feel after that. Am a bit nervous tho.
