Please dont laugh, I am in real pain here. Its not a joke or a wind up. It REALLY hurts.

I have been trying to poo for the last hour. It is massive and hard and causing me a lot of pain. I am bleeding from my anus - not just a bit on a tissue, its been dripping down now so have obvioulsy torn quite bad. I haven't managed to get anything other than a few tiny bits out. Its huge. I feel like I did when I was giving birth!! (but its definatly a poo not a baby!!)

Have tried squatting/different positions, bath, shower, walk. etc

I can't even sit down. I can feel it pushing, internally right through via on vagina as it is so big.

Have just applied some vasaline and I am hoping that helps. I am on my own and TBH quite scared. But very glad I am alone!

oh god you poor thing

have you sat on loo with your feet on stool so your knees are higher than your thighs

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:06

Oh bless you. It sounds impacted to me so you could do with contacting NHS direct. Don't try and push any more out as you can cause more damage to your rectum/anus. I'm not joking, you must be in so much pain and you need to contact them. It's common, it's called faecal impaction.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2010 22:07

can you ermmm massage it out with your fingers through your vagina wall?

paisleyleaf · 21/03/2010 22:07

Try a warm bath

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2010 22:07

I expect Belles advice is the more sensible.

MrsBadger · 21/03/2010 22:08

vaseline good idea

th other thing iirc is glycerine if you happen to have any about

Rindercella · 21/03/2010 22:08

Oh, you poor thing. Must be horribly painful for you.

I was going to suggest raising your feet so that they are level with the loo. I was going to steer clear of saying put them on a stool though.

Have you got anything in the house to act as a laxative to get things moving?

Hope you find some relief soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2010 22:08

(than mine I meant)

you need to break it up into smaller pieces
in hospital this may be done with suppositories or enemas and someone using their fingers to help you

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:13

Don't do anything and call NHS direct, if it's too big then there's nothing you can do to soften it, it will have a solid core so will be incredibly painful if you try to push it out and it could cause alot of tearing so you could bleed alot!! You need to get some help with this, if you were not already bleeding then I'd suggest orange juice etc but you are which means it's probably really impacted. It's really a good idea to call NHS direct and be seen by the out of hours. The blood supply to the rectum is really good, meaning you can cause alot of damage if you carry on.

thehillsarealive · 21/03/2010 22:19

oh you poor thing. are you any better now? did you call nhs direct?

belle your advice is spot on.

brimfull · 21/03/2010 22:21

yes best to get nhs direct advice

guess OP is busy

LauraIngallsWilder · 21/03/2010 22:28

That sounds awful newcar - I would do what belle says, call nhs direct if you havent already.

I hope you feel better soon [ouch]

GreenMonkies · 21/03/2010 22:31

No suggestions, just ouch!

thumbwitch · 21/03/2010 22:36

gah, how horrible! I had a really bad one when in the last stages of pg and the only thing that managed to shift it was sitting on the back edge of the loo seat and leaning forward off it - v. difficult to explain but I was using the loo seat to drag my bum backwards, iyswim and it created enough space to allow the poo (which was the size and shape of an apple) to release.

However, Belle's advice is probably better than mine.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:38

Goodness, does this mean I shall forever be known as the bum woman??

I hope you have called them OP and are getting some help with this.

newcarnewmoney · 21/03/2010 22:45

Thanks for all your kind words. Not long after I posted I managed to do it, so feel better now and less paniced! Although I am very sore! The vasaline certainly helped, and possibly the walk to the living room to get the laptop!!

How do I know if I have done any damage? I have just had a shower and I dont think I am bleeding but I will know a bit more in a bit when I am dried etc.

Sorry, wasn't ignoring all the advice, I didn't get a chance to get back online.

Do I still need to ring NHS direct? I don't really want to. But I am very sore.

thumbwitch · 21/03/2010 22:48

belle, more like the poo woman!

ncnm glad it's passed at last - I remember being in your situation all too well. If you're not bleeding any more I wouldn't ring NHS direct - if you are, then ring them.

newcarnewmoney · 21/03/2010 22:49

Also, my DD2 gets very constipated with similar problems. Everytime she pooes, which can be several times a day, she is in pain with similar things to what I discribed and its really horrible, although I have just realised quite how horrible it is for her.
I have taken her to the doctor and the HV and neither will help. She is a baby so can't talk to me about it. everytime she poos she screams, and I have to lie her down and push her legs up to her tummy and rub her tummy to help her get the poo out. The GP said there is nothing she can have.

Could it be linked with us both having it? DD1 also gets a bit constipated but nothing major.

OP posts:
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:52

It sounds like slow digestive transit, it's just when the waste moves slower through the bowel then usual so it backs up (constipation), the constipation is like a hard ball, it then has poo behind it which is stuck, it then hardens which is what faecal impation is. Have you tried activia?? A couple of soft pears in the morning are supposto help things moving, dehydration can cause slow transit so make sure you both have plenty to drink and have plenty of fibre to help things move.

Are you any better?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:54

If you are not bleeding now then you should be fine. Follow the instructions I've posted above though, it will help if you get something from the chemist to soften your poop for a week or so to give your rectum and anus the chance to heal.

paisleyleaf · 21/03/2010 22:55

Oh good.
I know how bad it feels, I had that once because of the painkillers after c-section.
I think it's up to you about the NHS direct - I think I'd be more inclined to see your GP now that it's passed.

LauraIngallsWilder · 21/03/2010 22:56

I can reccomend prunes and branflakes!
That would obviously be too much for little ones - try prunes chopped up with weetabix and pears, its yum and works well

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 22:57

I had a boulder when I was pregnant, it was 10 years ago but you never forget the pain!! I really feel for you. I'm slightly better educated now so I hope it helps you or someone else avoid the agnoy in the future.
