Please dont laugh, I am in real pain here. Its not a joke or a wind up. It REALLY hurts.

I have been trying to poo for the last hour. It is massive and hard and causing me a lot of pain. I am bleeding from my anus - not just a bit on a tissue, its been dripping down now so have obvioulsy torn quite bad. I haven't managed to get anything other than a few tiny bits out. Its huge. I feel like I did when I was giving birth!! (but its definatly a poo not a baby!!)

Have tried squatting/different positions, bath, shower, walk. etc

I can't even sit down. I can feel it pushing, internally right through via on vagina as it is so big.

Have just applied some vasaline and I am hoping that helps. I am on my own and TBH quite scared. But very glad I am alone!

Shit, I feel like I need to go again but now too scared/in pain to even attempt it!
Have raided the cupboards and found sennakot and calfig.

Will either/both of these help? Or will they make it worse as they will make me want to go?

Anybody know what the best thing that I can go and get first thing tomorrow would be?

Do you think its OK to apply babies bum cream? To sooth a bit?

eat more apples and oats. Stewed apples are also good, as are apricots - the pectin is soluble fibre which expands into a gel-like structure when it is cooked - makes life easier. Prunes and prune juice are also very helpful - but I would avoid bran of any kind other than oat, it can be counter-productive (can make things harder and rougher and more difficult to pass).

I had dreadful constipation issues all my life, and IBS when older, until I stopped eating wheat - worked brilliantly for me, doesn't mean it would work for you but could be worth a try?

Also, make sure you and DD get enough fluid intake in the day - DS doesn't have wheat either BUT if he goes a day without drinking enough he has problems the following day.

HTH

baby bum cream would probably be fine - if you had an impaction then probably there is a load of shit up there that was just waiting to come out so you might need to go again - but don't strain, just sit there and let it happen, if it doesn't then stop trying.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 23:05

Try some vaseline on your bum, pat it with the tissue though, don't wipe, then re apply the vaseline. Sennakot's good but it won't work for a day or so. As I said above, it's like a back up of balls, they become hard so another ball develops behind it as it can't get out, stuck in the intestine. When was the last time you did a poo apart from tonight? It will give you an indication of how much there is still to come out.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 23:06

I was almost right, sorry about the bran

newcarnewmoney · 21/03/2010 23:07

I get DD to drink as much as she will, but realisically, if she doesn't want to drink it, there isn't much I can do . She likes water though and does drink about 5-6oz or so a day.

Reading the calfig bottle I am wondering about giving some to DD. The docs said there is nothing they can do because of her age but I can't leave her in pain. The calfig says from 1 year. She is 1 in about 5 weeks - surely it woudl be OK, just a slightly lower dose?

Ds has the opposite problem, I was thinking of what he's having for breakfast tomorrow, bran flakes!!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/03/2010 23:08

Try DD on some natural remedies first, orange juice, a couple of ripe pears, figs, they all help.

newcarnewmoney · 21/03/2010 23:15

Thanks, sorry x posting going on.

Will take the senokot now, it says it works withinn 8-12 hours, which is better than nothing. As long as it doesn't make things worse then thats OK.

Have got the shivers now and not feeling good at all. I am hoping I can sleep soon so that I can wake up when the senna is working!

I have tried DD on all the natural remedies and nothing has worked. It has litterally been going on for months and am changing doctors so I can get a second opionion on her.

I think you should still contact NHS direct if you are starting to feel worse, don't go to bed just yet. You could just be shakey from the pain. Make sure you feel OK first, do call them and get yourself checked over.

thumbwitch · 21/03/2010 23:24

don't laugh, have a cup of hot sweet tea! you're bod is probably in some kind of adrenalin shock from the straining - and sweet tea is the universal panacea. (Unless you have any rescue remedy, in which case take that instead)

newcarnewmoney · 21/03/2010 23:34

Think I am going to have to wake DH up. I am not up to talking on the phone and I feel awful, struggling to post so probably wont get back online now.

Please do call them though, it's better to be safe and see what they say. They would have heard it all before so please don't feel embarassed.

I really do hope you feel better soon.

GreenMonkies · 22/03/2010 14:16

Are you ok today? You sounded very unwell last night. How are you now?

(I second what everyone says about prevention rather than cure. I had IBS which actually turned out to be Coeliac disease so I struggle sometimes if I don't eat what seems like massive amounts of fruit. I'm talking at least 1 apple, dried cranberries, pear, banana, satsuma, grapes and a probiotic yoghurt [I like the Muller Vitailty] each day, along with a good portion of salad every lunchtime and yet more veg with my tea. Avoid "binders" like cheese, eggs, processed starch like white bread/pasta, swap these for brown/granary bread and brown/wholegrain rice, or even cut out wheat all together.)
