DH is really worried, I am actually feeling a little bit scared now, but I don;t want to go back to hospital if this is just likely to be a side effect.

background.....

was admitted into hospital on the 17th january having an asthma attack. was taken straight into resus, given nebs, attached to sats machine and obs done which altho showed sats were fairly good (96% on nebs), my heart rate was high and blood pressure pretty low (altho mine is low anyway normally).

they did blood gases which I found out later showed very low potassium and Respiratory Alkalosis, so they stuck me on an ECG (or EEG??) machine (measured heart rate at least), which I also found later showed ventrical tachichardia and trasient ischemic episode (pre mini stroke if I understand correctly).

anyhooo.....they stuck me on a drip, saline and also potassium, put me on antibiotics as I also had had a chest xray showing me on the cusp on pnuamonia, and admitted me, ended up for 10 days.

I have also been on steriods (40mg prednisilone plus some injected), am still on steriods, plus I am on tramadol for severe chest pain, plus many inhalers for the asthma.......I was on nebs 2hrly at one point, and 40% oxygen, but obviously now am ok on that front and for now the asmtham is under control.

the thing is now that my speach has gone. I cannot speak more than two words without a shudder going thru my head and stopping me.....tis like someone is squeezing me tight around the right side of my head. my eyes spasm shut too when I am trying to speak, my right leg and arm are constantly trembling and I still cannot walk up the stairs.

DH is out this morning paying bills and sorting out stuff that has got behind while I was in hospital, but he wants to take me to get checked out later......I am partly agreeing, but I really don;t want to go if it really is somehting connected to meds and they keep me in over the weekend for nothing. does that make sense??

sorry for any spelling mistakes, typing is far easier than talking but the shaking still makes it hard.

TIA

You should DEFNTLY go to the hospital. YOu probably need to be kept in over the weekend.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:14

oh, bugger

Has this started suddenly or has it been ongoing since going into hospital?

nickelbabe · 30/01/2010 11:14

even if it is to do with the meds, you still need to have it checked out.
bad side effects are not good (iyswim) and they might be able to change them.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:15

thanks for the reply....I kind of thought that would be an answer, but I live in hope. I don;t want to go back, it would scare the children more than anything.

When I saw your titel, I thought it was just "nerves" (dh finds it physically difficult to speak when he's really stressed).

I'm not a doctor, but from what you have said, I think you should seek medical advice. HTH.

bruxeur · 30/01/2010 11:16

Are you under a lot of stress at the moment?

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2010 11:16

Please get checked out, it may be side effects but may be something more serious

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:17

nellie, I was fine when I was released.

the speaking has been getting worse since weds.....I woke with a bad headache, which I put donw to just being home and all the shock, but weds I could speak, altho sloewly, last night I was beginning to slur when I was tired, today speaking is pretty shocking......if DH is fretting, and he doesn;t normally, then it does kind of say somehting is not right, but I am trying to just hope it is the steriods

aleene · 30/01/2010 11:17

I also think you must get seen, just to be on the safe side. Sorry, I know going back in is the last thing you want but hopefully it will be a quick visit.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:18

bruxeur, I am stressed, but only because of being ill.......nothing otherwise

NotQuiteCockney · 30/01/2010 11:18

A+E now please.

Can you check if you can smile evenly? If your face muscles are at all asymetrical, then 999. Now.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:20

so, if the general consensus is to get checked, A&E or go to out-of-hours???

my neighbour is here as she popped in to see me, and she wants to ring 999! I really don;t think I am that bad, I can type after all, but if she is wanting that then I guess I should listen

nellie12 · 30/01/2010 11:20

Sorry you really do need to go back in. Is anyone with you? I wouldn't leave it long to get in tbh.

Katisha · 30/01/2010 11:20

I don't think there's any question about it - you have to go in today.

nellie12 · 30/01/2010 11:22

A&E. I think if your neighbour who is with you wants to ring 999 then go with that. (I am a nurse by the way I dont usually fess up to that when suggesting action but in your case..)

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:22

NQC, I can smile......not lopsided at all, but one side of my face shudders when I speak according to neighbour.....arse, DH is still sorting bills, I don;t want to go now....I was hoping to be told its just meds and I can wait

OP posts:
norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2010 11:24

If someone who has seen you says 999 then get thee to a hospital pdq

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:24

neighbour has gone to pack me a bag.....I think she is going to do 999......you lot are convincing her more than me saying I am breathingok, so ergo, am fine

OP posts:
coldtits · 30/01/2010 11:32

Get you gone

Good luck, hope you get well soon.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/01/2010 11:35

The assymetry worries me a lot. It may well be it's just meds, but I think 999 would not be a mistake.

There are things other than breathing that can go wrong and need medical attention NOW. Hope all is well.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2010 11:36

thanks all....will let you know how it goes. ringing for ambulance now.

xx

hairtwiddler · 30/01/2010 11:39

go to a&e and get seen by a neurologist please.... this needs seeing asap. I work in this area. it may be fine but needs checking.

scarletlilybug · 30/01/2010 11:47

Hope all turns out well and that you'll soon be safely back at home.

northender · 30/01/2010 11:50

Right decision, hope all turns out to be well.
