DH is really worried, I am actually feeling a little bit scared now, but I don;t want to go back to hospital if this is just likely to be a side effect.

background.....

was admitted into hospital on the 17th january having an asthma attack. was taken straight into resus, given nebs, attached to sats machine and obs done which altho showed sats were fairly good (96% on nebs), my heart rate was high and blood pressure pretty low (altho mine is low anyway normally).

they did blood gases which I found out later showed very low potassium and Respiratory Alkalosis, so they stuck me on an ECG (or EEG??) machine (measured heart rate at least), which I also found later showed ventrical tachichardia and trasient ischemic episode (pre mini stroke if I understand correctly).

anyhooo.....they stuck me on a drip, saline and also potassium, put me on antibiotics as I also had had a chest xray showing me on the cusp on pnuamonia, and admitted me, ended up for 10 days.

I have also been on steriods (40mg prednisilone plus some injected), am still on steriods, plus I am on tramadol for severe chest pain, plus many inhalers for the asthma.......I was on nebs 2hrly at one point, and 40% oxygen, but obviously now am ok on that front and for now the asmtham is under control.

the thing is now that my speach has gone. I cannot speak more than two words without a shudder going thru my head and stopping me.....tis like someone is squeezing me tight around the right side of my head. my eyes spasm shut too when I am trying to speak, my right leg and arm are constantly trembling and I still cannot walk up the stairs.

DH is out this morning paying bills and sorting out stuff that has got behind while I was in hospital, but he wants to take me to get checked out later......I am partly agreeing, but I really don;t want to go if it really is somehting connected to meds and they keep me in over the weekend for nothing. does that make sense??

sorry for any spelling mistakes, typing is far easier than talking but the shaking still makes it hard.

TIA

Psycho- hope all is well and you are being taken care of xx

blinks · 30/01/2010 12:24

ALL THE BEST.

i'm shocked that the hospital release you without giving you more info about TIAs, what to look out for etc very neglectful on their part.

hope things start improving soon.

jalopy · 30/01/2010 20:46

Glad you are being reassessed, psycho.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the transient ischaemic episode is related to your ecg findings (heart) rather than a TIA which is related to your head (stroke).

Having said that, the symptoms you are experiencing are a little alarming and need to be checked out.

Thinking of you.

Updating - she is in hospital being assessed for stroke, epilepsy and meds reaction. She was waiting on MRI results when I spoke to her, and if they needed it she would be being operated on asap.

Her speech was getting very hard by the end of the call

aleene · 30/01/2010 23:56

Oh my goodness, poor woman! Hope they are looking after her and she is well soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2010 08:00

I hope they get to the bottom of it quickly.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2010 08:36

Glad to hear she went. Quite frustrating to be hearing these symptoms, and her saying 'oh, maybe I should go see a doctor' when the rest of us were shouting 'A+E! 999!'.

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2010 10:20

Ok it was CAT scan yesterday which was clear, but now the speech is worse. She's waiting for a lumbar puncture & MRI. On antibiotics as temp doing silly things. Off the steroids.

No strength in right side and shaking, face looks normal but tingles when speaks.

She is terrified she is dying
