What to expect after tooth extraction?

I had a tooth removed yesterday. It broke at work last year when someone walked into me.
Today it feels like my head has been run over. My nose is agony, under my eyes, my ear, my jaw. It is all throbbing. My gums and the roof of my mouth are swollen.
Also the tooth next to the one that was removed is wobbly, is all of this normal?
I had no idea how bad this would be, it is the most pain i have ever been in.

when i had my wisdom teeth removed about 10 years ago i felt really disconbobulated and woozy for about a week afterwards. And obviously my mouth hurt.

i've since heard that many of the neural pathways to the rest of the body link to the mouth so having teeth done can affect you far more than you;d expect.

I had a tooth out following and abscess and tbh the pain wasn't that bad. My mouth was tender but that's all I recall.

Now the abscess...that was agonising. Worse than childbirth! My face was swollen and I was seriously considering getting a knife and trying the extraction myself

My long, rambling point is that your pain sounds extreme for a straight forward extraction, maybe you should call the dentist and ask advice before the weekend.

Should the teeth surrounding the removed one be loose? Will they tighten again? I might phone them, i am in agony, and sweating like mad.

Phone them, that doesn't sound right. I had four teeth out under sedation last year. My gums felt sore and mouth generally ached but nothing worse than that.

She just said i have to call on Sunday again if it hasn't improved. She gave me an out of hours number. I have to take paracetamol every 2 hours and 'try not to overdose'!

I don't think the surrounding teeth should be loose. mine certainly weren't.

Paracetomol 2 hourly sounds like too much aswell. You could alternate ibuprofen and paracetomol if you have some. Ibuprofen is only 3 times a day though, normally paracetomol is 4 x daily, no less than 4 hours apart.

Did the tooth come in out in one piece or did you have to have a surgical extraction and stiches?
One of the most common problems that can occur after tooth extraction is a dry socket. This is when there is no blood clot and the tooth socket is slow to heal. It may become infected. This usually happens very soon after the extraction and can be extremely painful. Go back to your dentist who will rinse the area, put a dressing on it and may give you antibiotics. Dry socket is more common if you are taking the contraceptive pill or if you smoke.
Your dentist sould have emergency contact details on her answer phone.

I had a tooth taken out just before Christmas and suffered none of what you are describing. I would get back to the dentist as soon as you can.

They have given me the emergency number for the weekend. I am in soooo much pain. But when she read over the notes she said it was an abnormal removal, and was hard to get out. They didn't mention that at the time and i haven't had a tooth taken out before so i didn't know what was normal. She said what i am feeling is normal. But i am sooooo sore. I'm such a baby lol.

Maybe you've developed dry socket? (I think it's caused by losing the clot in the extraction site and I've heard it causes extreme pain!)
Think the wobbliness of the tooth adjacent to it is normal though. Hope you feel better soon!

I've had 10 teeth pulled out, 6 during an operation and 4 wide awake, urgh. My head felt it was 3x the size it was and i couldn't eat anything for days i felt really bad, but not as bad as your sound, i would get it checked.

My head feels/looks pretty big too. I think o can feel the clot though.. I should stop poking my tongue into it ahh

it is easy to get the hole infected. have you tried rinsing often with salt water?

can you actually see in the ole in the mirror? does it look white or creamy or like cheese? if so you reallllly do need antibiotics but in the mean time keep rinsing.

god it was horrible but i had to use that after teeth were pulled, and had operation

it can really hurt, mine did for a few days, remember they're pulling a great bone out of your mouth!

my other teeth were wobbly too, was so worried as one was a crown.

don't rinse it too much at the moment. let your mouth heal itself naturally.

ime it's quite a major thing

The hole is red and bloody looking. It's gross.
It is worse than giving birth. I have 45 mins before i can have any pain killers, and i am in agony.

that's a normal colour, i inspected mine all the time was obsessed with it.

and white stuff wouldn't mean you'd need anti biotics ime

Update - it is now a big gungy, soft, bulging thing. where my tooth used to be. it is gross. On the plus side, my nose or eyes don't hurt.
