Mum just called He's had black poo and very low blood pressure. So they think he may have an ulcer caused by the warfarin

Not a big problem compared the the op but I have this sick feeling that something else is wrong.

Anyone got any info or advice. Please.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure he will be fine, there are often complications after such a major op. After my mum had her triple heart bypass she returned home only to return back again as she had a mild heart attack. The tube that had not been operated on had become blocked with tissue matter from the operation.

What will they do, is it something that can be controlled with drugs? Best wishes to you and your family. x

I don't know anything yet dolls. He was only admitted this afternoon. I will go in tomorrow evening.

Sorry to hear about this Orm

Treatment for an ulcer is usually very effective very quickly - hope he feels better soon x

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 14/12/2009 19:25

Oh Orm no advice or info but am sending many positive vibes to you all x

OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 07:52

MUm rang at 7am. They can't find a source for the bleeding and he has very low haemoglobin. He's in HDU and mum has been told she can visit anytime.

DH has taken time off work so he can drive me over. I can't even think straight.

That is such a sack of cack for you. Like gibbon said, he is in the best place.
Chin up and positive thoughs coming toward you and your dad (and mum).

OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 12:49

Thanks. It means a lot to have support here.

I've just got home. He was taken in for a second endoscopy just after 3 this morning because he had almost got to the point of no return. They were pumping him full of blood but it was all coming out again. They managed to locate and cauterise the ulcer - before that they couldn't see it because of huge blood clots. Bleeding seems to have stopped now. THank god. He is much brighter.

Gave him a good telling off for scaring me. He laughed! First time in months I've seen him laugh.

I am so releived. Cautiously so.

DH took me to Tesco for a huge breakfast Went to see mum who is much happier but v tired.

TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2009 12:51

Orm, glad he seems to be a bit brighter. Fingers crossed he'll improve steadily now.

OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 13:45

BTW do you think giving the ward sister a hig would be counted as assault?

Cos I did when she told me he was alright. She didn't seem bothered.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 13:45

hug not hig..

OP posts:
HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 15/12/2009 14:51

Oh great news!

And I think the hug went down just fine

OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 16:09

Note to self: must try not to be like labrador puppy when happy.

GloriaInEccentrica · 15/12/2009 16:11

Hugs are lovely.

Glad your Dad is feeling better. Horribly scary for you.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/12/2009 17:19

Orm, so glad he's OK. You've had a traumatic few weeks and deserve a bit of a hug yourself. x

OrmIrian · 15/12/2009 19:10

Thankyou saggar.

McDreamyingofawhiteXmas · 15/12/2009 19:13

Oh great news Orm, really glad he is on the mend

OrmIrian · 17/12/2009 09:48

Took youngest 2 DC to see him last night. Much much brighter. He looks and sounds better than he did before the op. Makes you wonder how long the ulcer had been bleeding. He's on fluids only. First step is to get him back on solid food. And then get him back on the warfarin If both those cause no problems we should be home and dry.

BTW is it normal to allow DC to visit in ITU? I was surprised (but very glad) they said yes.

OP posts:
kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/12/2009 12:03

No children on ITU in my experience, but my experience was 15 years ago. Fantastic news and make sure you buy the nurses some chocolates lots of healthy fruit.

OrmIrian · 17/12/2009 12:04

I was thinking about a few bottles of champagne - for off-duty of course!
