Hello All

Very simple i just wanted to know without having to justify or explain your answer will you or your children be having the swine flu vaccine.

Your language and terminology seemed aggressive and I simply found it uncomfortable - but of course we can all vent in any way we choose here.

This subject though cannot be a case of either for-or-against the vaccine - it is more a shared state of confusion where most seem to be uncertain.

We are all mothers/grandmas/individuals concerned with safety of a vaccine and I have admired the supportive voices on this board that seek to share - your comment simply felt out-of-place.

twolittlekings · 24/11/2009 19:37

tinalouiseuk I have been very supportive to people on other swine flu threads and if you read my post previuosly I did actually apologise in advance for the rant. If you are offended then perhaps don;t take things so personally - unless you believe in the mass culling programme in which I am sorry to say then you are comepletely mad

tinalouiseuk · 24/11/2009 19:48

We each approach in our own way

JamInMyWellies · 24/11/2009 19:54

can someone please explain what is squaelene

louii · 24/11/2009 19:58

My DS had his first dose yesterday, he has asthma, which is horrific if he has even a cold so i felt i cousl not take the risk of him getting swine flu.

saltyseadog · 24/11/2009 20:01

Yes - me and dd both done.

olivo · 24/11/2009 21:31

yes, we've all had it , except DD aged 3 months. they are offering to vaccibate all school children here, i believe the take up has been about 80 per cent at this stage.

I am uncertain - I have had the vaccine last Sat (am recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic) and very wary about having it but no side effects whatsoever.

I have friends in RL who work in frontline medical services who aren't sure whether to have the vaccine. And also know of young fit med student who had fit after the vaccine. he's OK now though.

My dcs (age 13and 8) and generally healthy have been called because they both had bronchiolitis as babies which was ages ago and since then really very healthy.

I really don't know what to do - I would hope that if they got sf it would be mild but then I wonder if the authorities know something I don't hence calling in children for illness they had when babies.

Anyone else in that position?

canihaveapeeinpeacepleasebob · 24/11/2009 21:54

ds 4 and ds 1, won't be having it.
I don't beleive that swine flu is this big bad bug that it's made out to be. I think there has been alot of media over reaction and scare mongering.
If things were going to be so bad, why hasn't it started already?
Thousand of people die from flu every year anyway.
I'm not prepared to put something into my child that has not been properly tested for their age group.
If we can't find a cure for the common cold, then how can we have suddenly found an safe effective treatment for a flu bug that has manifested itself from another strain
But I admit it is a hard decision.

fanjolina · 24/11/2009 22:01

Definitely not

idobelieveinfairies · 25/11/2009 11:20

Nope.

My children have all been offered it too. Over here in Jersey ALL children have been offered it and most have had it done. Heard of lots of illness from the jab, and a few hospital admissions too. They had it done 2 weeks ago tomorrow so should all be immune.

It will be interesting to see what happens now as confirmed swine flu cases have (mostly school age children) doubled/tripled in the last 3 weeks, so really there should be a dip.

sweetbean · 25/11/2009 11:38

sincitylover I am interested to hear that your DCs have been asked to have the vaccine due to bronchiolitis in childhood. My youngest dd is 18 months now and she had it when she was about 6 months (very horrid!!)but i had no idea that this would have any daring on who she would react if she where to get SF now. I would love to now more if you have any info.

Thanks for all the post xx

yes SB bronchiolitis is horrible - both of them were really very ill with it but I wouldn't have thought it would have a bearing on how ill they would get now. it's really difficult isn't it. They did also go on to have chest infections and croup after the bronchiolitis but really no signficant illnesess since about age 4/5.

I still haven't decided tbh

weegiemum · 25/11/2009 13:18

No.

DH has already turned it down (is asthmatic and a GP but no he won't have it) so if our primary age kids are offered it we will say no - they have no underlying health issues and anyway we are pretty sure we have had it (after testing stopped).

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 25/11/2009 13:36

JamInMyWellies, read this I think if you read the whole article, it makes sense and should answer your question at Tue 24-Nov-09 19:54:47.

slightlycrumpled · 25/11/2009 13:48

Definitely. DS2 is high risk, and we have decided to vaccinate with advice from his consultant immunologist. Swine flu (any flu tbh) would be very dangerous for him.

pofacedandproud · 25/11/2009 13:52

not exactly the most scientific link Solo.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 25/11/2009 14:04

I couldn't find the one from yesterday(which 'looked' more scientific)but this one said almost exactly the same thing.

I didn't like the sound of all the problems with cysts that a lot of people had had as a result of squalene...

Marne · 25/11/2009 16:43

Dd2 (3) will be having it, mainly because she goes to a SN nursery, Dd2 has no health issues but some of the children at the nursery have severe health issues.

Dd1 (5) will not be offered it as she is over 5 but i have a feeling she has had SF anyway.

MrsGuyofGisbourne · 25/11/2009 17:00
