Been offered it as a whole family because of DH's chemo treatment.
Anyone got an opinion on this? DDs are 6years and 2 years, and one has a history of pnemonia and the other has ASD. I work all day with children and families, and Dh has cancer.

Any links to helpful sites would be good too Thanks

DS1 and Dd1 have been offered it to this weekend, I am unsure too

girlsyearapart · 18/11/2009 17:41

had it this morning as I am in the at risk group cos of my M.S.

My arm is veeery sore all of a sudden.

Will keep you posted if any other side effects.

Sorry to hear about your DH. Is the chemo working?

Marne · 18/11/2009 17:42

My mum had it today (she's a nurse) so i am waiting to see if she has any side effects before the dd's have it (if they are offered it), i have a feeling dd2 has had SF anyway. Both my dd's have ASD, one goes to a special school/nursery but i'm not sure if they will get offered the jab.

We've had every other vax going, but dh is very unhappy about this one (he's a GP with asthma and has refused).

He says its not tested enough.

RubberDuck · 18/11/2009 18:46

I had it, it was fine. Had a very sore arm for a couple of days and that was it.

I just dont know what to do. Feeling like its not got enough research but will feel terrible if something happens, especially if DH get very poorly if he gets it. (although not 100% sure he hasnt had it already)

Chemo is daily forever, so not likely to be finishing anytime soon

Hasnt been offered flu jab yet, he was only dx in march.

All school children here have had the vaccine..quite a few side effects ranging from flu like symptoms, fainting, funny vision. Classes (especially in secondary) are missing quite a few children.

It's a hard decision, i haven't decided on anything yet so have declined the vaccines for now (although DD1 had it, she is 16 so it was her choice).

Swine flu is starting to take hold here too but vaccine doesn't kick until for 2 weeks.

Thing is.....swine flu has mutated a bit in the last week and there are cases of Tamiflu resistance. I'm having mine on Saturday - we need at least one person in the family who will be fit enough to nurse the others if it gets really bad. If it works of course. And I'm happy to have it to judge side effects before making the decision about giving it to the kids.

girlsyearapart · 18/11/2009 21:58

Why not Riven?

Too late for me to not have it now though..

Arm still hurty hurty ow ow [turning into a whiny toddler when faced with sore arm]

Elibean · 18/11/2009 22:06

Both dds and dh have had it (dds had second dose today, dh had his 3 weeks ago with girls' first dose). No one has had anything worse than a sore arm, and a bit achey that evening.

They are all asthmatic, and dd2 has a narrowed airway due to laryngomalacia...tbh, as she nearly died of an upper respiratory tract infection as a baby, its a no brainer for me. No immune issues, airway/breathing issues.

Its a tough one, unless you have clear indicators either way - I think if I had lots of immune issues or previous bad reactions to vaccines in our family, I'd try to avoid it. But for lots of other reasons, I'd risk it and go ahead. Very individual...good luck deciding!

meltedmarsbars · 18/11/2009 22:07

We have been offered for dd2 who has health problems and has normal flu and pneumonia jabs. The rest of the family has been offered to reduce risk of us giving sf to her.

Will probably give the jab to her - if she gets swine flu that could easily finish her off.

I don't want another pneumonia session in hosp.

SparklyGothKat · 18/11/2009 22:10

I felt it not been tested enough too. Really hard decision.

pillsthrillsandbellyaches · 18/11/2009 22:14

i got an email advising against it due to lack of testing, made up of dodgy compounds, company wanted gov. to sign a disclaimer in case anyone died from it (?!).
doesnt sound too great...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/11/2009 22:15

dd is having hers tomorrow. Colds upset her asthma, flu would be horrid. I am slightly wondering if I should keep her at home on friday just to keep an eye on her. I don't do that for seasonal jab but it is what my instincts are saying.

PacificDogwood · 18/11/2009 22:17

I've had mine 12 days ago (pregnant and work as GP).

lisa, if your husband had recent chemo/is still immunodepreesed IMO the risks of developing complications from Swine Flu is far higher than any potential/theoretical risks of the vaccine.

BTW, sore arm seems to be statuatory aftereffect of this vaccine . Otherwise personally I felt entirely well after having it.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 18/11/2009 22:20

I guess im just not confident enough that they have deeloped it withcare as t was so quick. DH was all for it, but now doesnt know.
Does anyone know if normal Flu jabs is any help at all again SF?
I dont want to google it, I know i will have to spend ages sorting it into groups of "government are trying to kill us" "Its from aliens" "It gave my child chicken pox" to its ok, no problems, yes ther are issues!! agggrrr. Cant I just keep us all inside till summer??

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 18/11/2009 22:21
