I am feeling pretty low emotionally and physically and are absolutely shattered. I wake up every morning and it is a struggle to get out of bed. Ideally I would go to bed when the kids do and get a good 11 hours in. Never going to happen naturally so I just want a helping hand. It isn't something I am planning on doing often but I need some sleep.

Coco - syndol makes me sleep too - it's invaluable on the nights when I have a headache, and falling asleep quickly is an extra benefit. I've never tried them just for the sleep though - but have made a mental note now - many thanks!

Fabster · 04/11/2009 20:19

CD ordered.

Thank you

Here's to some decent sleep.

I used to find valerian very effective, you can get it from H&B and probably in Boots herbal section. Also kava kava but I have a feeling that's not on sale any more.

I don't take syndol very often, Jajas - just if a headache is bad enough. I do occasionally never have a slug of Benylin original chesty cough medicine when I don't have a chesty cough, for its soporific qualities.

alypaly · 05/11/2009 10:50

there is normally an underlying cause for poor sleep and it often relates to depression or anxiety

Stayingsunnygirl · 05/11/2009 11:12

Quite true, alypaly - depression, in my case.

Flightattendant · 05/11/2009 11:17

Hi Fab,

haven't read the whole thread but my friend said sleeping tabs didn't really do much for her - she uses a relaxation tape instead. might be worth a try x

Flightattendant · 05/11/2009 11:18

ah looks like I should have read!!!

I hope it works for you.

I suffer from bouts of severe insomnia. The do prescribed me dosulepin 25mg (EXTREMELY low doseage which kind of helped with relaxation but I think it was kind of a placebo really) but Valerian and Hops are always good for me. Sweet dreams!

cruisemum1 · 05/11/2009 16:44

The do should read the doc!

purplepeony · 05/11/2009 19:21

Do you know what is behind your lack of sleep?
Is it worry, over tiredness, wrong foods, eating late, drinking late, too hot, too cold et c tec?

Is this recent or long term?

Fabster · 05/11/2009 19:28

I am always stressed.

ALways tired, sometimes I could cry with it.

Don't eat properly in the mornings, if at all.

Have dinner around 7.15pm.

Rarely drink alcohol.

Been like it for a while.

I feel more tired than when I was breast feeding in the night.

fabster - you really need to ge the sleep thing fixed. I have walked in your shoes believe me. Even last week I was the living dead. It is horrendous. The playgroup leader asked me how i was last week and I burst into tears (not depression just exhaustion) Poor man ran for cover and couldn't look me in teh eye all morning
I have tonnes of domestic stress, it is horrid. Go to the docs and get some help. Once you have some sleep everything else seems manageable. I feel dreadfully guilty that I am only half living when I think of my lo's. Do it tomorrow. Please, maybe you could eat dinner earlier too? Sweet dreams.

cruisemum1 · 05/11/2009 21:35

I also recommend relaxation/sleep cd's. They do the trick for getting to sleep at least.

pippylongstockings · 05/11/2009 21:44

Good luck all round - I would like to add my voice to those who have found sleepeze useful and helpful, however I have already found myself within a few months on the slippery slope of not being able to sleep without it. I will now look for the CD that has been recommended to try and break the cycle.

I know it is because of outside stress job etc that I have no control over.

Without sleep we are hollow shells of our former-selves!

cruisemum1 · 05/11/2009 22:22

without me having to trawl through all posts, what is the recommended cd on this thread? I will order it without further ado!

Fabster · 06/11/2009 07:32

The GP doesn't seem bothered that I am shattered and puts it down to having 3 young kids.

Last night I slept from about 10.30-6.40 without waking up which makes a change but I am still tired. Sometimes my dreams are so full on I feel I have lived them so no wonder I am knackered.

go to tghe gp again and tell him/her you simply cannot cope! Well done on all that sleep. Sounds heavenly

I have just remembered that the nights when DH made me some warm milk I did seem to fall asleep quicker and sleep better. I must be about 2 years old.

OP posts:
cruisemum1 · 06/11/2009 16:07

fabster - if it works then do it! I do sometimes have a glass of warm milk before retiring (after my glass of red wine though )
ONce I have slept well for a couple of nights, I do go to bed happy in the knowledge that I can do it and that does defo make a difference. I also have the Paul McKenna 'I can make you sleep' book and CD. Not sure if it works alone but it definitely gives the message that this is a temporary affliction as all humans are capable of sleep. Hope you get some zzzzz tonight (hope we all do for that matter
