I would like to add a little personal experience....
Within half an hour of my daughter receiving her 3rd HPV vaccination she started to lose the use of her arm. She quickly developed muscle weakness, pain, loss of movement, headaches and visual disturbances. I have no doubt at all that this was as a direct result of the injection. Over the next two months things got progressively worse (although the headaches and eye problems resolved). She developed hypersensitivity along her whole arm and at one point could not bear the weight of the duvet on her arm. It's fairly disturbing when you ask a child to move their arm yet all they can do is look at it hanging limply and tell you that they're trying!
It's also quite disturbing when some medical professionals appear bemused, yet fairly lassaiz faire and tell you that there's a good chance that the problem will resolve itself ...but it will be months if not years.
To offer light at the end of the tunnel to anyone in a similar position - The good news for my daughter is that 4 months on, the pain has gone, full movement has returned and full strength has returned. Her arm is still 50% numb from shoulder to fingers but as far as my daughter is concerned, it looks and work normally!
I've been told not to try to 'medicalise' the problem! That it should go away! Whilst this appears to be the case, at the time this was fairly unhelpful. Perhaps it's not possible, but no professional has made any attempt to even try to explain what happende or why. Without knowing this, we have no idea if the problem will reoccur - was it shock? reaction to aluminium or something else in the vaccine? I guess we'll never know
I write this, as at the time of the worst symptoms I could not find reference to anyone who had experienced the same. I read about paralysis, numbness, headaches etc but could not find any positive stories.
If anyone else has experienced similar symptoms I would be really interested to know.
