Morning helpful people.
My dd (6yrs) hopped out of the bath last night and I noticed that she had clusters of spots on her knees and legs small and red but wiht white tops. There are a few rogue ones dotted aroundher body mainly from the waist down. She says they do not bother her and I left them alone. Then in the night she woke up with a temperature and was very upset. But wiht calpol is fine. I hae her off school today and wondered if andyone thought the spots and temp were related. They are not chicken spots or rash like. More like a load of random insect bites but no itching and no apparent bite as such. Any one got any ideas?

Allergy to bath products?

ghengis · 13/05/2003 09:01

I'd try giving her some antihistamine (piriton works well with my 2) to see if that helps. Otherwise a cool bath (no soap or bubblebath) and calpol will help relieve the symptoms.

HTH

Bobsmum · 13/05/2003 09:18

this is EXACTLY the same rash as my ds currently has!!! Have also just started a thread!!!!
If you find out before me or I find out before you then we should let each other know!!
People on my thread have suggested allergies too, but I have no idea what he's come into contact with.

bubbly · 13/05/2003 09:27

Bobsmum did your ds have a temperature too? I will definintley let you know if I get any more useful info. I dont think it's an allergy I havent changed anything she uses normally. She does get very dry skin in the colder months but we usually treat this very successfully wiht cartloads of vaseline or Lansinoh on the very dry bits (overnight miracle cure!). It isnt itching her at all and doesnt appear to be spreading. I will try the Piriton just in case. But would an allergic reaction cause a temperature or are they completely unrelated. She is very articulate and says she just has a cold (ie stop fussing Mummy).
Thnaks for your help.

The two symptoms might be unrelated or might nor. It can still be an allergy even if you haven't changed products or could even be a food allergy, or allergy to something else. Don't forget that hypoallergenic products can cause allergic reactions in some people and something that has been used for ages and not caused problems could suddenly trigger a reaction

bubbly · 13/05/2003 10:28

Cheeky I didnt know that. We always assumed that as we neither of us ever suffered allergies or eczema/astham and there is no history of it in either of our families that the kids would prob be the same. Is it hereditary or can it be randomly triggered like that. That means nothing is safe...

Bobsmum · 13/05/2003 10:30

also didn't know that cheeky. theonly thing i know for sure ds hasn't eaten for ages but ate 2 days ago is pineapple - hmmmm

JJ · 13/05/2003 11:12

My son used to get allergic rashes from viruses sometimes. They would come with no warning, sometimes with a fever, sometimes without, and leave just as quickly.

That's really not very helpful, is it? Just to let you know that that sort of thing is possible.

Jaybee · 13/05/2003 11:53

Could it be Molluscum Contagiosum? The only website I have managed to find a picture is here although ds' had clusters of the spots whereas the picture seems to show only one - the spots are viral. I know of several children who have had these, ds got them in the summer when he got hot. They eventually disappeared without treatment after several months.

Bobsmum · 13/05/2003 12:25

Not the same spots as on my ds (8 mths), but thanks anyway Jaybee. Bizarrely they had faded this morning when he woke up but appeared suddenly during nappy change -definitely look like nettle stings, but only on his legs.
I blame the yellow spiders........

Jaybee · 13/05/2003 12:29

Could they be a heat rash especially if they have a temperature.

Mum2Toby · 13/05/2003 12:50

Bubbly - if allergies, hay fever, asthma, excema etc run in the family then it's most likely your children will too. However, that doesn't mean allergies cannot just pop up out of the blue. Neither my Mum or Dad have atopic tendencies but all 4 of their children have!! 3 of us are asthmatic and suffer from excema. We all have quite severe Hay Fever.

I developed an allergic reaction to tomatoes when i was 17 and i ate them almost everyday of my life!....... still do actually, but take antihistamines.

So to answer your question - it is hereditory to a certain extent, but can also be triggered randomly.

Check out www.bbc.co.uk/health

They have a very good section on Allergies and Food Intolerances.

As for your daughters rash, the fact the spots have white heads doesn't sound like an allergic reaction. Sorry I can't help on that front.

suedonim · 13/05/2003 13:06

Thanks for that site, Jaybee. It's pretty much confirmed that a spot my dd has had on her arm for a few months is molluscum. I suspected that's what it was but now I'm 99% certain.

JJ · 13/05/2003 13:44

Jaybee, wow, thanks! My son has those, too. One of his friends has them and I had wondered if he had caught them from her. I have to admit to not being too worried, but it was making me wonder. Thanks again.

Those spots are different than the rash he gets sometimes when he's sick. After reading Mum2Toby's post, I realized that I didn't mention that my son has other allergies and that I've got allergic tendencies, too. So the rashes just pop up, but the allergies didn't. The viral rashes my son gets look different than the hives he gets when he eats something he shouldn't, also.

bubbly · 13/05/2003 14:35

Oh Jaybee no not those - i'm not good at medical pictures.
Mum2Toby I'm quite shocked I've been very complacent and blase about allergies etc on the grounds that we are pretty immune. I must put on my research hat and get learning.
The jeat rash thing is out as she got the temp about 6 hours later. tehspots are subsiding today.

Hi bubbly!
some folks on my thread (ds has bizarre rash) suggested urticaria or hives. Found \link{http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/nettlerash.htm\this site which might help.

Bobsmum · 13/05/2003 22:45

Sorry that's this site

spacemonkey · 13/05/2003 23:44

My boss always gets similar sounding spots/rash before he comes down with a virus/infection/cold. He thought it was some sort of allergy, but on a recent visit to the doctor was told that it is an early immune system reaction to the developing virus/infection and is actually a sign of a healthy immune system. Don't know if this is relevant but could be a possibility ...

Hullo everyone Just got back from the doc as the spots looked really horrible last night all pussy and raised. Apparently it's a viral rash, not an allergy, related to a sore throat and cold(which have only really shown themselves today). I thought viral rashes came after the virus as it worked it's way out but apparently not. Anyway nothing to panic about. Thanks all for your help and advice and Bobsmum maybe this helps you too?

robinw and space monkey you were bang on -worth remebering next time I go into overdrive.

Rash has totally disappeared, ds is happy chappy and all is well in the world - huzzah!

soyabean · 22/05/2003 21:50

Can i re-start this thread to ask for advice about 3 yr old ds's spotty face? Red spots, look like acne, on both cheeks (more than 10 on each cheek). Not itchy I dont think. But they look awful. He has molluscum on his legs, tends to pick at them so they get red and sore, but these ones on his face look different and seemed to spring up all of a sudden about 2 weeks ago. No sign of going but he is very resistant to going to the doctor or putting any sort of cream on so I thought I'd try here first.Any ideas, wise people?

XAusted · 22/05/2003 21:54

Can't help with the face spots but have you tried echinacea to get rid of molluscum? Worked for my dd.
