Who's had their APPENDIX removed?

Sorry, but after having mine out on friday, i want to know whether anyone else has had theirs removed post child hood and how long it took to recover - i cant ever seeing me getting behind the wheel of my car or walking to the shops ever again!!!!

I had mine done whe I was 9 so not much help I'm afraid. But get well soon!

I had mine done when i was 17 - was out of sort for about a week - and was back to normal after that.

Hi JM, been following your saga via JD. I had mine out at 6 months old (along with a fair proportion of bowel too)!!

Sorry, that's not much help. I did have more major stomach surgery at 23 though and it took much longer than I anticipated to get back on my feet. I guess you have that 'I can't stand up straight feeling'? ...... it will pass, honest, just take your time and in a few weeks time you'll be back to normal. Hope you feel more like you soon. You're PG too aren't you (or am I confused?), has baby coped OK?

yeah pg too - not much fun especially as the little monster has decided to start kicking since friday tea time! How inconsiderate! Swear the surgeon gave him a knock when he opened me up!
cant stand up straight - im bruised round my scar and to be honest, i feel like poo! just wish i could feel normal - especially with my bro's wedding on saturday!

Don't push it JM - it'll heal when it's good and ready. Hope you get to the wedding - just make sure you can sit down loads.

oh ill be there - jess is bridesmaid! just need to take it easy i guess. just hate not being able to do anything - little things like lift jess for a cuddle!

JM, I had mine out when I was 15 and was in hospital five days. You will feel better every day, I'm sure.

thank you - i was suprised the let me out less than 48 hours after surgery but it seems the home recovery time may be a long one - they didnt actually say how long i would be out of action for!!!!

Hey, I had mine out late Thursday night after being very poorly last week and being rushed into hospital on Thursday morning.

So I know exactly how you are feeling at the mo, hobbling about everywhere and struggling to do normal things, blooming hurts doesnt it, but not as much as the pain beforehand.......last week was so bad.

I got out of hospital on Saturday morning and have been told not to drive for two weeks, 2-3 weeks off work and 6 weeks for a full recovery, hope that helps

I had mine out when I was 18. I was in hospital for about a week IIRC but would have been allowed out much sooner if I hadn't been living so far away from family.

Thanks TrinaB - so reassuring to know im not the only one! i know what you mean about the pain - but yeah - it is so much better than before the op!

Can you believe the hospital didnt tell me anything about a recovery time, even tho i have a 9 month old to consider!?!

At least i know DH will be off work for approx 2-3 weeks!!!!

Had mine out at 23. Took me 6 weeks to get back to work (but 1 hour on train and 2 tube rides - so a big deal).

Didn't have children, but did paint our bedroom (well to waist height anyway)

I know, that was really poor of the hospital not to give you info on the recovary.

The only thing that has kept me going through the worst if it is remembering that the Dr said as I left 'you will still feel sore for a few day's, but after that you will feel much better rather quickly'.

I am about a day in front of you recovary wise and I must say, I am feeling much more mobile this morning.

I only have a four year old to look after, so its not been too bad.

As bad as the pain as been, I am just so glad to finally know what has been up with me, I thought I was going mad.

i didnt!

just got a load of shooting pains in my tummy, and being pg i thought it must mean something was wrong. Went to docs who thought it was appendix - sent me to hospital. Hospital disagreed and said it was a urine infection, and sent me home. Was back in hospital the next day feeling worse, docs operated friday and when they removed it they said it was slightly inflamed and had nobbly bits all over it - not sure what that meant but didnt sound good!

i was also very tired, off my food and not really with it - all that mixed with the pain, i thought i was gonna die! Now, other than moving about, i feel fine - its just trying not to do too much!

Feel better today than yesterday so thats a bonus, but i find it more painful in the mornings after i have been laying in bed all night!

thats what my docs reckoned to start with - thought the water infection had affected my kidneys - what a load of cobblers!

I had mine out when I was 17, stayed in overnight and then was sent home. They might have kept me in longer but my dad's a GP so they thought I'd be pretty safe. Was miserable for about a week but was playing hockey again after 2 weeks, didn't do any situps at training for a while though!

thanks people... i just needed to know that i will feel normal again soon!!!

DH has just been given 2 weeks off work to look after the little one so now really impressed with the army because they dont usually give a s**t about the families, but they have come up trumps at a time i needed them to!
