I know I have done this to death but...... I got the coil fitted in Feb after 18 months of random bleeding/spotting (I have PCOS). I got the coil fitted beleiving it would stop my periods and I would return to some sort of normal. Anyway I am still having random bleeding/spotting almost daily and it is driving me nuts. I miss 'going for an early night' and I need to know if and when this will stop. Does anyone know of anything else that can be done. PLEASE ADVISE????

Sorry I should add that I am at the end of my tether with this and am thinking about making an appt to get the damn thing removed,.

Hate to say it but I am having the same troubel, the doctor said it will settle down, so fingers crossed
(I had a new one fitted in january)

I had my mirena fitted two years ago now and had irregular bleeding for over six months.

It has stopped now although I do occasionally have a very light period ( not often though).

It's a nightmare isnt it??? I hate it. This is my 4th month of bleeding whilst having the coil but I was bleeding for about 18 months prior to that so I am seriously pissed off now.

Wilts, does it just stop or does it get less frequent first. Should I persevere????

Mine took about 10 months to stop. I am glad I persevered, it is well worth it now. You could have some cyclical progesterone while you wait (from GP or FPC)

I think they normally say 3-6 months for things to settle. I've not had this with either of mine, but a friend who has had a lot of problems with irregular and prolonged bleeding had one fitted, and after 4 months it did really help

I have been given some meds from the FPC in the past, what was the name of the one you had in mind???? 10 months .

It took about 4 moths for me to settle down with the Mirena. I too was having random spotting etc. Now (18mths later) it's brilliant: apart from the acne , which doesn't happen to every to everyone though

I cant wait for it to work. I am very pesamistic about it as I have tried EVVERYTHING else and nothing has worked for me. I have had heavy irregular periods since I was 11 and have pretty much tried everything. I am not convinced this is going to work either although I have to say, I have felt better in myself since I had it fitted,.

bargainhuntingbetty - I was bleeding pretty much constantly for the first few months. although not particularly heavily. It then just seemed to stop one day.

To be honest I only persevered so long because it is not easy to get appointments at our family planning clinic and I was very busy at the time .

It is also my ideal form of contraception and there was not an alternative I would have wanted, so that probably kept me going longer than it would for some.

I was told it could be about six months before it settled down though.

I had heavy and more frequent periods before I had my coil fitted and it's only just settling down now after 8mths. To start with they did get a little lighter every month This is the first month that I would say I didn't get a proper bleed and I had it fitted in October laster year.

I havent had a proper bleed since I got it fitted. I had heavy bleeding to start with but I havent had a 'period' since I got it fitted,. I just get this damn spotting/staining on a daily basis. Its really annoying.

I was fine for the first 9 months or so and for the last 6 months it's all gone belly up Much more bleeding. And 2 weeks ago I had a massive bleed, clots 'n' all which knocked me for 6. So who knows what's going on on....

Sorry I disappeared bhb. You can take cyclical norethisterone or Provera whilst it settles down. I use it occasionally for patients.

Susie that sounds quite unusual - has it stopped now? Definitely go back if it hasn't.

I had nothing for the first year but was also excl BFing, the last 6 months have not been fun, really heavy periods (and I mean gushing heavy) that can last 2 weeks and then start again 2 weeks later, sometimes I get a short light period but most of the time it is bad. GP says I need to 'let my body get used to it' but ffs it has been fecking months. Am constantly on the verge of booking appt to get the thing out.

I'll bet you London to a brick if you have a contraceptive that gave this many bad side effects to this many men it would have been withdrawn from the market donks ago.

There's a phrase I ahve not heard for ages, I mjust start making use of it again!

And all very true. And epidurals woudl be the norm, BFing would be cool and maternity leave would be about 5 years or nannies would be state funded
