quick background - I have been poorly for ages now. several infections needing AB's, (5 lots since xmas), and generally feeling crap and tired.

have had several blood tests done, and they keep coming back with low white cell count (3.4.............not dreadfully low, but enough for the docs to keep wanting repeat bloods done), and the GP seems to not know why, nor really offer any explanation bar refer me to different specialists.

anyway............the latest referral is regarding my moles. I have several but two in particular keep getting itchy, and one is quite big now, but not what I would call scary..............altho I am not sure what would be scary (IYGWIM).

well, the referral went off, I had a letter to ring and book, booked in and they gave me an appointment for in 6wks.

BUT

I have just had a letter and it says that the consultant has reveiwed the notes my GP has sent and wants to see me on the 3rd june, a whole month quicker.

now terrified as to what he has seen in my notes that makes him want to see me sooner.

help please, or calming thoughts.....am shaking

Psycho, I've had a mole removed too - they do give you a local anaesthetic first you know. And they didn't actually stitch mine up, as they thought it would leave a bigger scar that way. They cauterised it and dressed it, and now you cannot really see that it was ever there.

Most distressing part was realising that the barbecue smell was in fact me

Poledra · 20/05/2009 13:32

Oh yes, and it turned out to be a benign pigmented naevus (that would be a mole to you and me).

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 20/05/2009 16:48

Has she rung the doctor's yet?

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/05/2009 17:00

Psycho - I promise I'm the biggest wuss in the world when it comes to pain but I have had a few moles removed and it was fine.... honestly.

One of them was right on my groin about 2 cm from my fanjo and I had to spend the whole time with my legs wide open and the consultant's face in my crotch It was mortifying but not at all painful

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 17:39

sorry all, the stress put me into cleaning frenzy, and then my neice has been round............she is having a baby

right, not rung and not going to, as TBH, I don;t know that they will tell me anything more than CMOT and others have said - ie, it is due to moles needing to be seen quickly anyway.

am fretting still, but am trying not to let my insane-head take over

oh, and thankyou all for the reassuring about the mole-removal not being awful.

Ooh, how old is your niece? Older than DD1 I hope

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/05/2009 18:02

6 weeks is a long time for a referral on moles which are causing problems so I'm not surprised that they've brought it forward when they got a space. My Dad is a dermatologist and his NHS waiting list is only 2/3 weeks - they like to get people in quickly.
I've had a couple of moles removed just because there was a possibility that they might become malignant, so if the consultant starts talking about removal don't panic, it's often done as a precautionary measure.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/05/2009 18:04

Oh and the process itself is fine, no worse than having blood taken IME.

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 20/05/2009 18:06

it will be fine
it will be a cancellation that they are letting you have
nothing to worry about

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 18:08

trillian, she is 18, so it is a bit of a shock, but tis lovely and she is great with babies so it will all be fine. she was showing off her scan pics, so it is all lovely and making me brooody!!!

DD1 is a little shocked, but in a good way I think (ie, making her aware of stuff IYGWIM). DS2 is being highly opiniated tho (embarrassingly so) and asked her who the daddy was and where was she going to live. I wanted to crawl away and hide in shame, but neice took it very well as she knows him rather well.

thanks trinity

ali, bloods are scary too!!

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 20/05/2009 19:15

Where she's going to live and who the daddy is are both important and interesting questions, I would have wanted to ask too

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 19:19

@ trillians social skills

she is living at home until she is ready to move (they are happy with that), and the daddy is about, but they are not 'together'.

DS2 still unimpressed, but she is happy, SIL and BIL are over the shock and happy, so we are happy too
