quick background - I have been poorly for ages now. several infections needing AB's, (5 lots since xmas), and generally feeling crap and tired.

have had several blood tests done, and they keep coming back with low white cell count (3.4.............not dreadfully low, but enough for the docs to keep wanting repeat bloods done), and the GP seems to not know why, nor really offer any explanation bar refer me to different specialists.

anyway............the latest referral is regarding my moles. I have several but two in particular keep getting itchy, and one is quite big now, but not what I would call scary..............altho I am not sure what would be scary (IYGWIM).

well, the referral went off, I had a letter to ring and book, booked in and they gave me an appointment for in 6wks.

BUT

I have just had a letter and it says that the consultant has reveiwed the notes my GP has sent and wants to see me on the 3rd june, a whole month quicker.

now terrified as to what he has seen in my notes that makes him want to see me sooner.

help please, or calming thoughts.....am shaking

And they would telephone as well, instead of writing. I think Trillian has it. They just want to get it sortedand if they can do it more quickly there's no point keeping you waiting.

KingCanuteIAm · 20/05/2009 11:59

Sorry Psycho

Panic, Panic now - you know you want to

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:00

ok, so a 2wk referral is the right type then, and the referral before was lax on the lady I spoke to, is that what you are saying .

I am slightly calmer (altho eyeballs is sooooooo gonna get it for the scary-drop-deadness).

so, stick the letter on my fridge, be thankful it is quick, and just shake and quiver till then then, yeah.....???

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:01

lol trillian. I was gonna go there first actually as I thought I might get a speedier response than in health, but I am not strong enough to be flamed and told I was unreasonable

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:02

and besides, you lovely fine ladies came speedy enough anyway

fishie · 20/05/2009 12:02

i think trillian is right, i think it is something they have targets for too so will always try to see you asap.

i agree with you that the wording of the letter is scaremongering. tell them at the appointment and if they don't listen then give it to PALS (patient liason thing). completely needless worry for you.

CMOTdibbler · 20/05/2009 12:05

Spot on - the lady before had you in the 'weird rashes and spots' appointment slots, rather than the 'odd moles that need a closer look' slot.

TrillianAstra · 20/05/2009 12:05

Scaremongering? Bit extreme dontcha think?

muffle · 20/05/2009 12:06

They need to see moles quickly - but that doesn't mean anything is wrong with yours, they're just being safe.

I had an itchy bastard mole that really bothered me and finally had it removed. It was tested and was fine - nothing scary at all. It had really played up, itched, crusted and scabbed, looked funny - it wasn't cancerous. If they offer to take your moles out, say yes - it's a minor job and puts your mind at rest.

Good luck and hope they sort everything out soon.

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:07

damn those targets!!!

actually, I am joking, as they are a Good Thing, but tis the wording of the letter that has got me scared! I would like to say I will do that (re - pals) fishie, but no doubt by the appointment I will either be so terrified I will be a teeny ball in the corner quaking, or be quite breezy and the scared psycho of today will seem like an allusion, and therefore I will forget everything!!!

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:09

oh, they are gonna have to vut me arent; they to get the moles out.

oh..........

OP posts:
ChampagneDahling · 20/05/2009 12:09

Don't panic - just be grateful that you have an earlier appt and will hopefully find out what's making you feel awful that much earlier.

I'll tell you it will all be alright if you like, but being a mum you know that it may not be true !! Chin up and best of luck

psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:10

and I am so pathetic I lose ability to spell cut

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 20/05/2009 12:11

if my moles are ganky, will they be what has been sending my blood counts wonky??

and if they are, my blood counts being wonky is bad isn;t it.

Psycho, you are running away with yourself, these are things none of us (including you) can answer, your consultant can though, and will at the appointment. You really need to stop yourself from winding yourself up (to many yourself's in that sentance!) or you are going to be in orbit by the time the appointment comes round and last I checked consultants do not do home visits to space stations

Chilax girl

MrsEricBana · 20/05/2009 12:19

I am 100% sympathetic with you (because I am the biggest worrier ever) BUT getting a sooner appt prob just means they do want to give you a check over, they have a sooner slot, and of course, if it does need removing for whatever reason they can do it sooner so better for you. I'd say since you knew you were having an appt anyway, better to have it sooner in any case. I know from bitter expereince that worrying, googling (especially googling) just doesn't help at all and can even make symptoms seem worse. Big supportive hug (see, I am very good at talking the talk, though a bit less good at walking the walk )

MrsEB, yup, worrywort here

I will try and gag the fretting terrified head!

OP posts:
MrsEricBana · 20/05/2009 12:41

Sensible head doing a good job

TrillianAstra · 20/05/2009 12:53

Wasn't aware you had a sensible head

KingCanuteIAm · 20/05/2009 12:53

You have a sensible head

Where can I buy one?

bellavita · 20/05/2009 13:00

Psycho - I have had a mole cut out, honestly, it did not hurt. They injected the area first, cut it out and put some stitches in. Done.

Now what I was most worried about was having the stitches out... but that was more of a tickle sensation, so worried over nothing.

Twill be fine.

stanausauruswrecks · 20/05/2009 13:07

Don't forget, it's a new financial year in the NHS, so all the managers will be booking clinics like crazy in a bid to get a bigger slice of the pie for their specialities.

BCNS · 20/05/2009 13:21

exH had a didgey mole.. he was seen within 3 weeks and had it removed.. all was fine.. they have probably just fitted you in.

better to be seen quickly I say

BCNS · 20/05/2009 13:22

dodgey.. sorry I'm having a bad day
