Work say 'don't come in if you have flulike symptoms'

DP's work have guidelines in place saying you shouldn't come in if you have "flu-like symptoms".

He has a cold. It's not even manflu, let along actual influenza. Unless he feels significantly worse tomorrow he's going to go in.

Does anyone want to place bets on whether he will be sent home tomorrow after the first sneeze?

Student gave you a virus, how kind.

Sorry you're feeling shit, did the doctor suggest useful ways to make it feel better?

You'll just have to stay on the sofa and MN instead of working.

mumblecrumble · 17/05/2009 21:36

hereidrawtheline · 17/05/2009 21:40

DS has been ill all week with a virus very very flu like & GP said poss laryngitis, now today me and DH both feel like shit ourselves and have clearly come down with it, my whole body aches so much. DH works in a hospital so will be off work tomorrow.

southeastastra · 17/05/2009 21:41

you go to work.

TrillianAstra · 17/05/2009 21:48

Sorry SEA, what? Are you answering a question?

OP posts:
mumblecrumble · 17/05/2009 21:50

I;m not going to work. I'm going to bed. However, the old 'being mum' job I have on mondays and tuedsdays can not be signed off for

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2009 11:25

mumblecrumble. I ended up with full on croup. very scary. was given inhalers. Fortunately avoided steroids. I alternated ibuprofen and paracetemol with codeine. Also, once the actual poorliness was over I took clarityn which helped with the left over cough. I can't remember the last time I was that poorly (apart from flu) A couple of friends dropped supplies/dd round and couldnt believe how ill I looked.

Lots of ice lollies and ice water helped the swelling.

Watch out for any secondaries. I ended up with a re-rising temperature 10 days in and got poorlier. Gp gave me antibiotics and 2 days later I felt much better.

hereIdraw, if you live in an area with confimed flu cases phone nhsdirect. There seem to be one or two cases of community spread over here where they arent sure where the patient got the flu from. Hope you feel better soon all of you.

mumblecrumble · 18/05/2009 12:19

Just been suggested to be to do a steamy thing.... think I'll have a bath.

I don;t want to move!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2009 12:45

Could help - carefully if you are feeling at all fainty though.

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 13:23

ohyoubadkitten is that confirmed flu or swine flu or either, that you mean? what good would it do calling? This is definitely my idea of a flu - we all have sniffy noses, sneezing, aching all over, hot flushes, unwell type thing... I dont know what to do about DH going back to work this week as he works in a hospital but has a really important job. Last night I actually had the distinct feeling of needing to not contaminate everyone, like we are all keeping ourselves apart just in case at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2009 14:17

I mean swine flu. calling nhs direct could help if you are near a confirmed outbreak. I'm utterly only a lay person so hopefully a proper person will jump i but I'd phone cos:

  1. They keep records of flu like illness calls and create things like weekly report which can help them plot community spread of viruses.
  2. If you fit the nhsdirect profile as a possible case it may give you access to tamiflu which if taken soon enough can help shorten the illness and make it less severe.

I'm sorry you are feeling so rotten, you sound like you are being very sensible about it. Have you got friends who can go out and get meds and soup and stuff for you?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2009 14:19

really hoping someone proper comes in and corrects any mistakes I've made.

mumblecrumble · 18/05/2009 14:24

Bath was feckin awful. Back with laptop and TV where I belong.

SOrry for take over

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 14:42

thank you ohyoubadkitten we fit pretty much all the criteria for swine flu But of course that applies to regular flu as well. I am upset because Monday & Friday of last week and also last night (to out of hours) I have taken DS to GP because he is persistently unwell, (now me and DH are) and I feel like they should have offered tamiflu already. I dont know. Will phone NHS direct & GP and get advice because of course DH cant go to work while we are all like this, he is regularly on hospital wards and his own office is in a hospital.

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 14:43

oh also I cant make heads or tails of those graphs sorry. I did check on Essex Co Council site there is an outbreak & a school closed but its about 35 mins away from us. Still not a million miles.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2009 15:49

Very good idea to phone nhsdirect It doesnt sound like you are too close to an outbreak though. It sounds like a hideous germ what ever it is.

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 17:03

I am so upset. A while ago DS sat on his potty and did a wee and poo and he stood up and the liquid was crimson red - blood. We took him and potty contents to GP - phoned first thinking they might want to come to us as we are clearly contagious but our bitch horrible evil GP said to come to her (she isnt horrible for that she is just always horrible)

Anyway she looked at it and said "oh yes, blood" and sent us away with some pots for him to pee and poo in, to drop off to the surgery tomorrow morning, results 3 days after that! I just dont feel like they are taking us seriously at all. I hate my GP. We all have a bad flu, it isnt getting better, now DS has peed blood and surely something else should happen. I am so upset. I just got home from GP and phoned NHS direct, they are about to call me back. I just dont know what to do.

Our area doesnt have an emergency care unit. So it is A&E or GP and GP is just bizarrely uninterested. But I know the flu advice is not to go to A&E, understandable! I will see what the NHS Direct nurse says when she phones back.

I really need someone to talk to me about this and give me some perspective so I will bump til someone sees it, sorry but I have never seen DS's wee like that it has really upset me after a week of illness & tummy aches to just be sent home.

I should say he did eat a couple of pieces of beetroot last night but he has eaten it before (without it turning his wee red) and it was around 7:30 last night and he has done many many wees since then. So I think it being caused by the beetroot is unlikely!

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 17:15

bump

TrillianAstra · 18/05/2009 17:20

hereidrawtheline you might get more responses if you go to the top of this page and click 'start a new thread within General Health' and give it a title that is relevant to your problem rather than just adding to this thread.

Sorry your DS is poorly, afraid I don't know anything about blood in poo.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 18/05/2009 17:22

Sorry that aounds really patronising, for some reason I had it in my head that you were new

I still think you'll get a better quality of sympathy/advice if you start a new thread on it though.

OP posts:
hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 17:29

thats ok I nearly did but I have been scattering threads all over and was beginning to feel bad about it!

Will do so though.

hereidrawtheline · 18/05/2009 17:30

oh and I meant we had been posting on this thread about the virus

(how could you think I was new! )

TrillianAstra · 18/05/2009 17:42

I didn't think you were new particularly, I wasn't paying proper attention and just thought 'that looks a bit weird like it needs a new thread'. Sorry.

Generally things that make you poo are contagious through the poo though right? For flu you have to stay away from people because it's contagious thorugh the sneezing, so you can pass it on to lots of people easily.
