I had this, it sucks doesn't it

I actually first started prolapsing after I had DS1, but had to wait until after I had DD before I got it repaired (although tbh it was only really bad after I had her anyway)

I had an op to correct it, and did a thread at the time talking about it. Do you want me to find it?

serenity · 18/04/2009 13:36

On searching I discovered I actually hijacked someone else's thread, lol.

Anyway, it might help, or freak you out more (sorry!)

Undercarrigetrouble · 18/04/2009 13:39

Thanks i will read the thread
I am upset today as it feels very oddand is giving me anxiety.

Don't worry too much, if you look at the thread linked below it's really common. When you go to the GP you'll probably be referred to gynae at the hospital - I had to wait about 4-6 weeks for this. When I went they examined me, asked some questions and asked if I would like the operation to fix it. I said yes as the back pain etc was/is quite bad. They took all the details for the op and I'm now on the waiting list for a repair.

BTW, It took me 2 years to go and get it sorted, initially I didn't realise what was wrong, then I kept putting it off. I also had a smear during this time and nothing was said by the nurse. So, don't worry about the wait to see your GP, it's still going to take a while to get it sorted. You'll be fine (I haven't had the op yet and I'm pretty scared too!).

Also - how come all our bodies are falling apart considering we're supposed to be designed to give birth????

LittleWag · 18/04/2009 22:11

Having prolapse repair beginning of June, was starting to think I was the only person in the world suffering with this. My G.P. would'nt even examine me, I went private in the end to get a diagnosis as I was completely miserable and desperate after 2 years of not very nice symptoms.

Thanks for the replies.
Bubblerock -I hope my visit proves as fruitful.

Does anyone know if it is safe for me to continue with my exercise routine?
I have started running and am really enjoying it.

OP posts:
serenity · 18/04/2009 23:05

Exercise is good - and keep up with your pelvic floors. They might refer you for physio anyway, so best to keep everything as tight as possible, it helps.

Undercarrigetrouble · 18/04/2009 23:13

Running wont make it drop any further then ?
i know i sound daft but i feel like it will drop out.

Poor you - I had exactly the same thing after dd1. Infact I had a rectocele and cystocele (bladder involvement). I was really fit (training for marathon) and had a quick easy delivery. Symptoms for me were - backache, a general feeling of unwellness and the sensation of something falling out!!!

I think 5 weeks is ridiculous to wait to see a GP. Is there another surgery in your area you can join? Please ensure that when you get seen by your Gp that an urgnt referral is made to the womens health physio at your local hospital as well as a gynaecologist.

I didn't need any surgery in the end but it did take a year of some pretty intensive pelvic floor execises under the guidance of my marvellous physio. I now have a pelvic floor of steel and despite being 39 weeks pregnant - it's still holding strong!

My physio wasn't really keen on me returning to my running programme but I'm able to hold in my pelvic floor whilst I run and it hasn't caused any problems.

I don't think I'll be needing any surgery in the future as everything is more or less back to normal. Please do not worry about being checked over by your GP - your bits will probably be the 20th he/she has seen that week!

Reesie · 18/04/2009 23:33

Also - I wouldn't go running until you have seen your physio - your pelvic floor at the moment is probably very weak so you do not want to put additional stress on it.

My physio tips for the beginning were - do lots of pelvic floor excersises (you might have to do them lying on your left side to start with - it's easier to do). It's importnat to get checked over though to make sure you are doing them properly -some people can do them so wrongly that they cause more damage.

If you are picking anything up that is heavier than a kettle - pull up/brace your pelvic floor.

When going to the toilet to have your bowels opened - support your perineum by using your tissued hand to gently press against it.

Lots of sex is a really good pelvic floor excersiser apparently - an orgasm is a strong pelvic floor contraction - so get lots of them!!!!!

Undercarrigetrouble · 18/04/2009 23:43

I was hoping you wouldnt say no running reesiei am doing it to combat depression you see.
I could swap Gp practice yes but i need to see my usual because i also need to discuss my mental health and she knows me well.
Thanks for an informative post.
