The dr found a mass in one breast 2 weeks ago and I had to go back today, after my period.

She can still feel it and so has referred me ot breast clinic for a scan.

I have also been given beta blockers for panic attacks as not coping v well with anxiety.

She has said she doesn't think it is sinister but is referring me to double check.
Would she say this just to reassure me?

Not sure how I will wait for 2 weeks.

littlerach I know how you feel, the worry is awful and its hard to sleep. I just followed the old fashioned advice of keeping as busy as possible. the 3rd time was the worst - i suppose i knew deep down it was likely to be just another cyst but with a 7mo baby i found it hard not to worry.

like the other posters have said, its unlikely to be anything too sinister if it has shrunk on its on.

so keep as positive as possible and know that lots of people are sending you good wishes.

expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 13:41

Yes, missy, I have a nearly-6-month old, a 5-year-old with SN and a 3-year-old.

But I'm looking forward to going because I want to find out one way or another.

littlerach · 15/04/2009 16:59

Have you been referred for a specific lump, Expat, or for a follow up?

Have kept busy today

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 18:02

I've been referred because I never stopped lactating/producing milky discharge in one breast after giving birth last November, and subsequently developed pain in the armpit radiating down the breast. The pain has not decreased or changed with my cycle. The practice nurse who examined me said she felt there is more density in that part of the breast - I have rather big knockers - hence the referral.

I just want to know what is up.

expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 18:02

Good luck for your appointment!

Mine's for 9.00AM.

littlerach · 15/04/2009 18:13

Good luck to you too.

(I have large norks too )

expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 18:27

I'm having a mammogram at the least and possibly a scan.

Hoping it's just something to do with the milk production and an easy fix.

littlerach · 15/04/2009 18:28

I will have a scan and then possible aspiration/cone biopsy, according to dr.

But don't know when.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 18:38

Yikes!

She did mention that if it's a blocked duct or something like that they'd need to aspirate it.

Great, more needles! Just what I wanted.

Will be thinking of you, though!

HOpe the evening goes by quickly.

littlerach · 15/04/2009 19:22

Thanks Expat.

Good luck tomorrow.

Maybe the letter will arrive for me soon.

i had breast mice too! i thought it was an unpleasant way to describe them. please try not to worry.

babypringle · 15/04/2009 19:44

littlerach - i had a fibroadenoma removed about 10 yrs ago. i had an op under general anesthetic and was home same day. I was pretty sore for a week or so and now have a three inch scar. But they biopsy the lump to make sure there is nothing scary and I've had no further lumps. Good luck!

expatinscotland · 15/04/2009 20:00

I got in straightaway. I only saw the practice nurse last week.

littlerach · 16/04/2009 16:23

How did you get on Expat?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2009 16:28

I had a cyst!

The consultant was better able to feel, being a breast surgeon and she knew right away it was probably a cyst, but because I'm over 35 I had a mammogram. OW!

Then she used ultrasound to guide teh needle and drained it because it was a bit big.

She sent some of the stuff - clear fluid - to the lab just in case, but it's nothing sinister and although I am sooooo sick of needles I'm just glad it's OVER.

I was so happy I treated myself to a cheeky kebab for lunch.

Now just wishing you the best of luck, littlerach.

I was dead nervous in the waiting room, shaking away, but the relief you'll feel once the consultant's finally doing her business is enormous!

sfxmum · 16/04/2009 16:29

to OP I found a lump last summer was seen very quickly did mammogram and cells were taken for analysis
it was/ is a fibroadenoma which is benign, it can be taken out but I choose to leave it does not bother me and it does not run the risk of 'turning bad'

just take it easy chances are it is benign and you will be seen quickly and treated if needed

good luck

sfxmum · 16/04/2009 16:31

and btw mamaograms hurt blinking uncomfortable never mind how nervous I was, the staff were great
was seen at the Royal Marsden

littlerach · 16/04/2009 18:56

Very pleased for you Expat.

Think I ma glad I own't have a mammogram!

I am feeling more positive now, though still terrified.
It is the journey there and the waiting that scare me actually.
Dh suggested we do the park and ride and I nearly bit his head off

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2009 19:15

it was the waiting room that nearly tipped me over the edge, little.

i have had to do a lot of stuff on my own because we have 3 young children and no family or babysitters nearby. i went through a missed miscarriage and ERPC on my own, gave birth to DC3 on my own, so i thought i had this susssed.

but it still wigged me out!

i didn't drive, either, so i could take a temazapam.

littlerach · 16/04/2009 19:51

In a way I'd rather be on my own, but think I'd duck out of going

At least my dds will be back at school so will just need ot get friend topick them up if necessary.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/04/2009 20:07

Nah, give yourself some credit. You won't duck out of going because you're a mum and your kids need you to look after yourself and your health.

Just think of them, take some photos of them on your mobile in case you get super nervous.

I remembered how painful it was to give birth to them and it saw me through! That and pictures of them smiling - my two girls in front of a huge rhododendron in the park last weekend and my baby son with his big, toothless grin.

littlerach · 17/04/2009 09:45

Appt Tuesday morning

But only to see consultant, no scan.
No idea why.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 17/04/2009 09:55

Because sometimes the consultant will decide a scan's not needed.

In my case, she only did the mammogram because of my age (I'm 38, have hypertension and Type II diabetes), and drained the cyst because it was rather big and it was causing me pain.
