I've got two moles that keep scabbing over, dropping off and re-growing - I really don't want to go to the doc

I've had them for years but this scabby thing is recent - last few months. One is on my back where my bra strap is and one is on the back of my neck where my coat collar is.

I think they are just doing it because clothing is catching.

I really REALLY don't want to go the docs.

Its pretty normal isn't it? DH had one on his waist that did it, was catching on his jeans. He wants me to go to doc. I don't wnat to. WWYD?

Well you know the answer really, don't you?

Don't be such a wuss woman. You must get them checked out.

EdwardBear · 25/03/2009 09:52

I went to docs about the same, with one near my bra strap. he said its just rubbing and not to worry. got to go back if it gets bigger, bleeds, changes etc.

Doctors now woman!

Is there a reason that you don't want to go to the doctors - a bad experience in the past, perhaps? Remember, you pay your taxes so that there is a GP around the corner to help you. They are there to support/help/stop problems getting worse . . . .

TheOldestCat · 25/03/2009 09:52

They are probably nothing serious. But you know what you have to do, right? Go to the docs!

The same thing happened with a mole on my leg - they removed it (local anesthetic, didn't hurt and only took a moment) to be on the safe side, it was entirely benign but I'm glad I had it checked.

McDreamy · 25/03/2009 09:53

I would go to the doctor. Get them checked, get either reassurance or removed. It's the only way to stop the worrying. Go on - is your gp that bad?

FlappyTheBat · 25/03/2009 09:53

Just to be on the safe side, I would go to your GP.

It may be due to them being irritated but I have had moles checked out before.
Even just to put your mind at rest that everything is ok, better that than worrying!

Winebeforepearls · 25/03/2009 09:53

You know we cannot tell you this! Go to the doc, oh foxy one. It will take 5 minutes and he/she can tell you whether you're over-reacting or not.

CMOTdibbler · 25/03/2009 09:53

Go to the blardy doctor woman. FGS, it they aren't normal, then the longer you faff around, the worse it will be. If they are just scabby, then they can take them off very quickly, all sorted.

Surfermum · 25/03/2009 09:54

I'd be at the doctors' PDQ. My mum had a malignant melanoma on her leg that she ignored until she had to have quite a big operation on it, so I don't take any chances.

georgimama · 25/03/2009 09:55

Yeah, don't worry, I know exactly what that is, it's....

a case for a blooming doctor! Phone now!! If you don't like your GP, see a different one.

MamaG · 25/03/2009 09:57

GAH

My GP is fine, I like them all. I was always fine about going to the docs for anything, jabs, the lot but after BabyG's birth in November last year (em CS with loads of crap stuff afterwards) I've been VERY wobbly about going. It took me all my courage to have my smear! Its silly, I know, but I feel very hot and upset at the thought of going.

I'm being daft. I know I am. I will go feed the baby and consider

Glad that you are going to reconsider.

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/03/2009 10:03

Have you got anyone who can go with you for moral support?

I know how you feel as this is exactly how I feel about going to the dentist, after some disastrous and incredibly painful root canal work, about 8 years ago.

I find it really difficult to even pick up the phone and make appointments for my DC, never mind me.

georgimama · 25/03/2009 10:06

I'm the opposite - terrifying (and crippilingly expensive, but not particularly painful tbh) root canal work is the reason I do go to the dentist regularly now. I don't ever want to be in that situation again.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2009 10:10

My Dad is a dermatologist - he would have a fit if he saw what you've just written.

Get thee to your GP!

pooka · 25/03/2009 10:15

No considering. You just have to go. You'd take the children if they ad these moles, wouldn't you? Because you'd want to make sure that not sinister. So treat yourself as well as you'd treat your children, and make an appointment.

Probably nothing, but really not worth leaving just in case.

MamaG · 25/03/2009 10:35

I rang for an appt and they only had a locum appt available. I'm going to ring in the morning and see a GP that I know (I think ) as that will make it much easier for me.

OP posts:
BecauseImWorthIt · 25/03/2009 15:36

Well MamaG, you have shamed me into making myself and DS2 appointments at the GP, both of which I was putting off for various reasons, so thank you!

LEMAGAIN · 25/03/2009 15:46

Good that you are going to the doc - i think, and im by no means certain, the fact that they return to "normal" is a good sign. But if i were you i would ask to have them removed, if only for the convenience - don't be giving them the opportunity to turn nasty in the future.

Surfermum · 26/03/2009 19:58

So ..... did you ring? [nagging emoticon]

MamaG · 27/03/2009 11:18

Appt 4.30 today - but I may have to cancel as DD is off school ill!
