a couple of groups of little water blisters on dd's face... what on earth could have caused them?

there's a bit of redness on the patches too. i want to say it's a bit like nettle rash but distinctly water blisters. three each.

does anyone have any ideas?

ooh, sounds like....erm.....

impetigo.

starts like that. spreads very easy, if it is that you will need fucidine cream.

gonaenodaethat · 23/03/2009 21:40

chickenpox?

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:40

ack. have just looked it up on babycentre. chickenpox a possibility. it's not like when dd1 had c'pox, that's for sure.

chickenpox?

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:41

IMPETIGO!

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 21:42

chicken pox rarely starts on the face, just to say, and it would be sinle blisters on each red patch.

sounds more like impetigo to me, I am sorry.

pooka · 23/03/2009 21:46

this has so much more info than I ever needed to know about rashes but at least jock itch unlikely

I would suggest google images for facial blisters, but I just did and boak at some of the pictures.

My first thought was impetigo - but not entirely sure that that ties in with "water blisters".

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:48

oh pissflaps and fuckshits.

i think it might be, from the websites it seems like it's not uncommon during a cold, which she most definitely has. it's literally three teeny wee blisters that popped up in a scratch she made on the bridge of her nose, and they've burst now and seem to be healing. and another three on her cheek near her neck, still a bit red with the blisters.

i take it i've to make an appointment for the GPs tomorrow? i CANNOT BE ARSED.

pooka, I had impetigo once, very badly (all over my face, I felt a looked very ugly), and it started off as water blisters and even the docs thought it a herpes type thing (they were undecided between cold-sores and chicken pox).

took to it turning into weaping sores for them to realise it was impetigo!

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 21:50

aitch, you will need something for it, but you could possibly go to the chemist instead, if you feel ok with that??

how is she now anyway?? she must be 7mths roughly by now.....((yes??))

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 23/03/2009 21:50

my mum has this every now and again, it is fungal and she treats it with canestan - basically athlete's foot on other parts of the body often comes up as little water filled spots. I had this on my fingers a few weeks back after treating a client who must have had fungal feet

LackaDAISYcal · 23/03/2009 21:51

It's very contagious aitch so just watch it doesn't spread to everyone else...own flannel and towel and wash pillowcases at 60 degrees. My nephew had it and it spread round the whole of DSis's family.

I have a probable wound infection and have been googling skin complaints as well.....

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:51

and do i have to boil everything? i've only just celebrated getting to the bottom of my laundry basket today. will dd2 get it? will I?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:52

i've got some timodene in the house, that's anti-fungal isn't it?

OP posts:
pooka · 23/03/2009 21:52

dd has also had impetigo. Happened last year, but we seemed to sidestep any clear blisters, going straight into attractive yellow. DD had oral antibiotics.

TBH was a horrible time because was just one illness in a long line of illnesses in feb/march last year. Tonsilitis, impetigo, scarletina, ear infection, uti. All dd. And with hindsight prob all related, but at the time there did always seem to be a day or two's grace between bouts.

The google images are always worst case scenario IMO (at least that's what I tell myself when I do my home doctor research for dd/ds!).

pooka · 23/03/2009 21:54

I don't think impetigo is fungal. Is bacterial skin infection, contagious too.

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:54

i do feel like the pair of them have had colds and streaming eyes since christmas. oh i CAN'T be ARSED. is there any chance that it's nothing at all and i can ignore it?

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 21:55

you don;t have to panic too much. yes, it is very catching, but normal hygiene is adequate if you are clean anyway.

I can honestly say that none of mine have given, or caught, impetigo from me or each other.

seperate flannels and towels washed daily, plus bedding changed once the cream in being used should be enough. and frequent washing hands, and short nails on the small ones (they like to pick and scratch and then touch each other I find), will be enough.

use plenty of cream too, it gives it a barrier as well as treats it.

pooka · 23/03/2009 21:56

If only,

If you ignore it, then it'll just go on for longer. Blimey I sound like my mother.

pooka · 23/03/2009 21:57

Oh and we didn't get it when dd had it. Even ds who frequently shared towels and baths with dd.

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 21:57

you need fucidine (that is what I am always given), which is antibacterial with something else in (I think. it is certainly not treated by a normal antibacterial cream).

AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:57

thing is, it really doesn't look like the pictures on google. is that just because i'm catching it early, do you think?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 23/03/2009 21:58

and now i am SCRATCHING like a MAD THING.

OP posts:
Jennster · 23/03/2009 21:58

It could be a touch of allergic eczema. Impetigo tends to have a floating yellow crust, but not in the early stages.

pooka · 23/03/2009 21:58

The site of the blisters sounds like it ties in with impetigo (according to the net doctor link) - face around nose/mouth.

TBH dd's didn't look like the google images - much less severe and angry looking.
