Weak pelvic floor muscles... help...!!

mum2toby · 10/04/2003 14:29

Since having ds nearly 2 years ago I have had terrible pelvic floor muscles! Even if I only need a little bit i have to be careful not to laugh too hard or cross my legs when I'm going to sneeze! It seems to have got worse over the past few months and it's starting to get me down. I don't want to have to wear those tena lady pad things for the rest of my life!!! I'm only 25!

Pelvic floor exercises make my skin crawl... I don't know why, but the thought of doing them is like someone scraping their nails down a blackboard!!! CRINGE!

Is there some form of exercise/activity I can do that will strenthen the muscles without me even realising??? Please help!

Or, when going for your morning stroll in the park with loved one (or not depending on their temperament that morning) and you are naturally wearing your shortest mini skirt because your figure just bounced right back and in fact improved after the birth you could accessorize your handbag, stroller, baby bag and child.

Oh yes!!!!.... I can see it now. BURBERRY from head to toe!!! What a pretty picture.... people would look on in envy at us trend-setters!

I have got some of those cones and tried them for a while, they are a bit weird though....having the little weights to put in them is also a strange concept ! but I agree exercise has improved the pelvic floor a lot. I can squeeze it fairly well although it still isn't as tight as it was before birth. I suppose that's why people like posh spice have elective caesarians isn't it ? anyway, I'm off to do some vaginal weght training, arf arf !!

Wondered where you were this morning. Good to see you're back on line.

I'm about to drop off and do some work saves the bollockings I may get. Yes we have lost the plot but I'm putting that down to it being Friday.

I haven't ordered them online yet, but I went into boots on Friday afternoon and chickened out!!!!!!!!!! What a wimp!! It was like buying condoms! I might send dp to buy them, after all, it's to his benefit too .... I'll promise him a treat in return!

I'm glad the thread's back on serious ground - all the hilarity was bad for those of us who have to cross our legs regularly! I was like this even before I was pregnant and am dreading after I give birth.

I bought the cones while pregnant but you can't use them until afterwards - not as shy (or more desperate)than some of you but I have to say it wasn't the closest Boots to me.

I believe hospitals do have peri-natal(?) clinics for this kind of thing, give me a block booking!

At least this thread reminds me to do my exercises!

mum2toby · 14/04/2003 09:41

How come whenever I do my pelvic flor exercises I suck my cheeks in and pucker my lips??? And I'm talking about the ones of my face here!!!

I always think it makes it so obvious what I'm doing!!!

I use this; beContentworks a treat! Its really good because you can see if you are working the right muscles.

Alibubbles · 15/04/2003 17:46

I have one of these from here , but I didn't pay that for it!!

It is good and a bit of fun! It is what the professionals use apparently.

bunny2 · 15/04/2003 20:30

Blimey, over £300. I could do with one of those, think I can get one second-hand?

bunny2 · 15/04/2003 20:30

Alibubbles, how did you get yours for free?

Alibubbles · 16/04/2003 09:23

bunny2, I didn't get it for free! What I meant was I didn't pay £300 for it, I paid about £165, it was advertised in a magazine, Red or Eve. But I believe you can get it through a very sympathetic GP or Gynaeconsultant or on loan from an incontinence clinic as that is what they use and believe to work the best.

I have to say it is good and really does work, quite quickly, but keeping up the maintenance is the hardest part, one can get quite lazy about it!

fisher01 · 16/04/2003 15:39

anybody know any sympathetic GPs (do they exist?). ended up buying a beContent on the web so didn't have to face the embarassment of Boots staff!

bunny2 · 16/04/2003 17:59

Sorry Alibubbles, misread your post. I cant possibly try my gp, he is so young and a bit on the handsome side, better find a female gp.

Edgarcat.... the 'blushing' bride-to-be is still blushing!! Haven't ordered the cones yet, but started trying to do pelvic floor exercises over the Easter weekend. They make me cringe!!!

Must keep at it..... must keep at it..... must keep at it....... squeeeeeeze.

I can't have a leakage problem when I'm wearing my beautiful dress!

mum2toby, buy the cones! Seriously, they're great. I didn't have much of a leakage problem but dh has really noticed a difference.

They are very easy. And, most importantly, you only do them once a day so you don't have that nagging voice inside your head all day pestering you to do more exercises.

You won't regret it. Honest.
