It's normal to have fat deposits/glands there that feel like very small lumps. The nurse at your GP's will teach you how to do a breast exam though so you can feel the difference in your breast. Don't worry, it's normal for you.

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:20

can feel ribs seems to be muscle bits bumpy bits on the rib under where bra sits ... so worried could cry ... havent told anyone either as all sick of me worrying about my health ...

Mine are like that too. Ribs are covered in all sorts of tissue/cartilage so they are not at all smooth. The nurse will show you how to do a breast exam and what's normal so please do not worry.

scrooged · 02/03/2009 17:26

Don't google! Google=evil!!!!!!

I really do have lumpy ribs. It's fat (not that I'm fat, I'm only size 8-10). I did once go to the GP with 'lumps', they were little balls of fat

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:28

thank you , [smile ] , i have poked and prodded most of the time , sitting up , lying down , the other one is not so pronounce in bumps or lumps , one breast is slightly biger to and my chest bones are but i think that is quite common ...

OP posts:
scrooged · 02/03/2009 17:29

Perfectly normal. I've not seen anyone with perfect knockers, they are all odd sizes.

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:30

really where were they ?

OP posts:
Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:32

OP posts:
scrooged · 02/03/2009 17:35

They are everywhere! Your breasts are mostly made of fat! Doh!

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:40

OP posts:
scrooged · 02/03/2009 17:41

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 17:43

whats cartilage feel like on ribs ?

OP posts:
scrooged · 02/03/2009 17:49

It vary's from person to person. Sometimes it's less noticable, women have the added problem of fat though, these are like tiny lumps clumped together.
I bet if you were to rub Brad Pitt's chest you'd find lumps and bumps.
Pop and see the nurse tomorrow, it's always a good thing to know your body, then it's easy to spot any changes.

Winetimeisfinetime · 02/03/2009 17:49

Hi iwal - funnily enough I went to my gp this morning with persistent breast pain that I was a bit worried about so can understand how you are feeling at the moment.

You are doing the right thing by going and getting checked out and having your mind put at rest. Can you try not to Google any more as it seems to be worrying you more than helping.

Now that you have made an appointment you are on the way to sorting this out. The biggest likelihood is that it will be absolutely nothing but if there should be something that needs dealing with then that will be sorted out too. So even though you are feeling panicy at the minute you have actually acted very sensibly and bravely as you are facing up to what is worrying you. Well done for doing that.

My overwhelming feeling about this is that it will all be ok iwal.

Thank you both , have appt tomorrow so will go get very anx as so many differant lumps and bumps in breasts hard to know whats what ... hello again wine time i remember you from last year , how are you ? What did the doc ay bout the breast pain today ?

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 02/03/2009 18:08

She did an exam and couldn't find any reason for the pain so advised me to go and get properly measured for a bra, wear it during the day rather than the unsupportive crop top things I curremtly wear and go back in a month if the pain is still there.

I will still worry about it a bit as the pain is still there but I find that once I have 'dealt' with a worrying health issue by seeing my gp, then I feel a lot better. I hope that you will feel better too after your appt. tomorrow.

I am ok - how are things with you ?

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 18:41

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 02/03/2009 19:25

Yes, thanks for that. I've read that evening primrose oil can help and am going to start taking it.

Glad to hear your ibs is a bit better. I feel sure this blip will turn out ok.

Have you tried any kind of therapy for your health anxiety ? I had it really badly when my ds was younger - I am much more able to control it these days but understand how horrible it is and can take over your life. I tried CBT and whilst it wasn't the magical answer I had hoped it would be, I think it helped me to understand the basis of why I got so worried and gave me some small building blocks to use to help me to tackle my anxiety.

Iworryalot · 02/03/2009 19:54

Hi yes have got CBt book and am sort of working through it i think it does help as gives me another focus , this is what i need as have way to much mind talk gong on ...
Also have been having reflexology the last 3 weeks which is helping a bit , and started yoga this to is good but have been unable to go for 3 weeks because of kids school commitments plus tomorrows appt so will miss again .. i hope will feel better tomorrow and can regain focus on things ,..

thank you for listening

OP posts:
Winetimeisfinetime · 02/03/2009 20:10

Always happy to listen

Sounds like you are doing well with trying to tackle the anxiety. I'm sure it will get more easy to control. Even though I am better than I was, I'm still very sensitive, like you, to things I read so I now stop myself from reading health related stuff as much as possible, turn over if it comes on TV and get my dh to do any health related Googling for me and then just filter the info on a 'need to know' basis. I think that for people that worry a lot like us, sometimes ignorance is bliss !

Let us know how you get on tomorrow.
