Do you have any white spots on the back of your throat/roof of mouth?
I had strep throat and it was bloody awful nothing eased it gargling/ice cream /lollies.
Only thing that worked was AB .I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Hope you feel better soon and manage to see GP.

southeastastra · 01/03/2009 20:23

hmm, well see how you are in the morning.
/looks sternly at SEA
/ushers to bed with hot water bottle and iced water.

DanJARMouse · 01/03/2009 21:41

DH has all these symptoms.

Was at emergency docs last night - said it was a virus.

Im not so sure - the doc didnt even look in DH's mouth or take his temp (very feverish)

Im taking him to docs in the morning, he is a very poorly boy, and he never gets ill.

Lionstar · 01/03/2009 21:42

Wear a scarf at all times - even in bed. My sore throats are always worse if I don't keep my neck warm. Many sympathies though, nothing so uncomfortable as a very sore throat.

random · 01/03/2009 21:44

get well soon sea...

JiminyCricket · 01/03/2009 21:49

I had similar recently, went to gp on 3rd day, she gave me a-b's and said to go to hosptial if it didn't get better. It did luckily.

Suedonim · 01/03/2009 21:59

Hmm, my strep throats always come on very fast, too. Once while I was in mid-phone conversation with a friend. I was chatting away and 'owwwwwww someone's just chucked a razor down my throat.' By morning I was completely out of it, so if you need to drive to work, SEA, do be sure you've not got a temp.

southeastastra · 02/03/2009 08:33

was up half the night shivering and freezing. thoat is getting worse. my whole body aches. maybe i should go to dr but don't fancy hauling myself there.

You really do need to go to the doctor.
It is not going to get better alone by the sounds of it

southeastastra · 02/03/2009 08:37

i know, i'm ringing now, forever engaged

You poor thing. Def keep neck warm with a scarf - I did that last time I had a sore throat and it really helped.

DanJARMouse · 02/03/2009 09:07

Hope you can get an appointment sea. I have got DH in for 9.40 so will be leaving shortly.

He is experiencing the exact same things as you, but since last monday.

Hoping to get ABs today because we need to knock this on its head.

psychomum5 · 02/03/2009 09:10

oooh, my sympathies.

people seem to think sore throats are 'nothin'.

I can vouch for the fact that you actually feel deathly!!

hope you feel on the mend soon.

Ledodgy · 02/03/2009 09:12

You have my sympathy. I've been the same all weekend. My throat is sore, my neck is swollen and aching and my ears are sore too. I have an appointment at 3.10pm.

southeastastra · 02/03/2009 09:14

have an appointment for 11.30, let me know how he gets on Jarm, poor him having this a whole week

maybe something is going round. it just feels really aggressive. normally i'd just get on with it but it's knocked me for 6

If you have swelling on one side it could be quinsy which is a complication of tonsilitis. My father had it several times and was wiped out - had to have an antibiotic injection in his bum irrc as his throat was too closed up to swallow a tablet. If left it can be quite dangerous.

It is deeply unpleasant and needs a doctor. I agree if you feel this bad, gargling anything won't touch it.

You have my sympathy - DS1 was off school most of last week with tonsilitis and he was really quite ill. He gave me a scare for 24 hours as he only had a raging temp and no sore throat - I kept checking for rashes!

Good luck at the docs. I hope you feel better soon.

DanJARMouse · 02/03/2009 10:15

Hi sea,

Well he has seen the doc. Doc isnt sure exactly what is wrong but says he obviously isnt well, has high temp etc.

Has prescribed some strong ABs - he can only take them every 12hrs. Hoping that will help.

Hope you get on ok sea, rest as much as you can. I know what you mean about working through it, DH is usually the same but he has been in bed since friday.

southeastastra · 02/03/2009 10:19

oh glad he got some ABs. hope they work quickly for him. he must be washed out i couldn't cope with this for a whole week .

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 02/03/2009 10:23

sea - you wont be like this for a week. Its only because I have to literally drag DH to see docs etc that its gone on so long - and because Dh is soooooo good at hiding how he is really feeling.

If I had known he was feeling like this last monday he would have been at the docs by tuesday!!!

At least you are being seen today, and you know how it works with ABs usually, 2 doses and you feel fab! (Well my exp anyway!)

southeastastra · 02/03/2009 12:05

got some penicillin, hope they don't take too long to work, nearly passed out in the waiting room, seemed to be full of noisy babies and men that didn't look ill

Mercy · 02/03/2009 12:10
