Feeling quite disgruntled with Hospital and possibly with the GP surgery, I haven't decided yet

I may/maynot have kidney stones (long story)

So GP sent me to the hospital to have an Xray with some injected dye which took 10 days to come through

I turned up & they refused to do it in case I had an allergic reaction to the dye

So I had a CT scan

I phone the GP today to here that the results of the X-ray were clear (clever that they could tell that, when they didn't do it) & that for more information look at the CT scan results.....which weren't there

So the person I was speaking to said she would speak to the GP & get back to me. I explained I would be out from 1:30 - 3 & she said that it was unlikely to be today. I was a little unhappy about this and suggested that as I was in a fair amount of pain/discomfort I would like a quicker resolution.....so she made me an appointment to see the GP on Monday afternoon

Actually I think I am disgruntled with the surgery too

I can understand that. DH had a CT and the dye thingy yesterday - so I know it's not pleasant.

Hope you get sorted soon

tiggerlovestobounce · 18/02/2009 22:04

It can take a while for CT reports to come through, as they have to be reported by a radiologist.
Hopefully the results will be available for your appointment on Monday.

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:07

Thanks I guess they can take longer

But I object to 'results' for a test I didn't have and for them to refer to an attached document which was missing

I guess I also object that nothing can or will be done until Monday - as I am having a bit of a miserable time atm

I had a kidney stone detected with ultrasound while I was being checked out for gall stones.

No dye or CT scan required - quick and painless.

InTheScrum · 18/02/2009 22:11

Good job it's all free then, isn't it?

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:12

No - it isn't free actually

I pay taxes which are used by the government to pay for hospitals & DR's

I wonder how free it would be if everyone stopped paying for it

OP posts:
InTheScrum · 18/02/2009 22:17

I'm not being funny, but you know what I mean. Yes, we all pay taxes but in a lot of other countries you pay tax and for health care.
I appreciate you are in pain, but the hospital probably only has one radiologist and a stack of scans to work through.
When did you have the scan done? Did they say to phone today for results?

It is a bit off for the GP receptionist to refer to non-existent scan results, but she's probably only picking up your notes for the first time.

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:20

I had it done a week ago

I was told to ring today for results

I still object to receiving "results" for a test not done

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:34

Seriously, would a hospital the size of the Norfolk & Norwich only have 1 radiographer?? I am shocked

OP posts:
Bagebird · 18/02/2009 22:40

errr, what has the NHS being free got to do with being told about test results she has not taken? I would be furious. Just because the NHS is a "free" service (and like Katymac I disagree on this point) that does not mean they can go around making up test results. At best this is very bad communication and at worst it is lying. Giving out the wrong test results could result in serious medical complications fgs. Makes you wonder what else they can muddle up.
I would contact them and expect them to explain how and why it happened and insist they get to the bottom of it so that potentially huge errors do not occur.

(My Dh had an ultra sound that detected his - results given at the scan as they had someone to hand at the time, all on the nhs)

scrooged · 18/02/2009 22:40

Hi Katy. The radiographers take the x-rays, they are then all checked by a reporting radiographer (more qualified and more experienced), a result then goes to your GP. It takes 7-10 days. A stone can come out before you have the x-ray so the film will be clear.

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:42

But I didn't have any Xrays

OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 22:47

Have you not had some ones taken without any dye? An abdomen film rather then the one with the dye (IVU)?

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 22:48

No - at least I don't think so

He asked the questions at the beginning & that is when we discussed my allergies - I don't think they did anything - I think (maybe) he hadn't even finished lining me up (iyswim)

OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 23:01

You would know if you had an x-ray, they normally warn you!

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:02

Thought so - so what is with the 'clear' "results" then?

OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 23:06

I have no idea. The receptionist isn't there to give out medical results, she's far from qualified. It's very, very naughty! I would have a chat to the practice manager about this, if she say's it to someone who is really ill it could be very serious.

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:11

No - it was the results extension - only takes calls between 11am & 3pm (or something)

  • another week-end unless I give up & go to casualty
OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 23:12

Hmm. Clear normally means there's nothing there but as you've not had any tests or x-rays then this poses a problem.

How's your tummy?

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:14

Sort of grumbley & unhappy but that could be the D&V

The shooting pains have stopped - most of the time

I ate today for the first time (bad move)

OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 23:23

Take it easy. Do the shooting pains move or are they in the same place?

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:26

They are down the right side & quite random - but generally the same spot - I wonder if they are stuck in my U bend

My legs are a bit achy too

OP posts:
scrooged · 18/02/2009 23:27

Have you been weeing OK? (sorry)

KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:29

Yep - not as much as normal but as often

I don't think I am drinking as much as normal because of the D&V on Sunday - I usually drink about 2-3 litres but I'm not making 1 atm

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/02/2009 23:33

Night (& thanks)
