What do you pay for contact lenses these days?

My specs are nearly buggered and I can't drive/read/work/function without them. But I am skint, so I thought I could go back to contact lenses and at least pay monthly for them. I need toric ones, and would prefer dailies (although they didn't used to do toric dailies apparently) but monthlies would do.

Too much! My dailies cost between £110 and £140 (depending whether I go for the regular or the moist version) for 3 months' supply (both eyes). I don't wear them every day, so that I can eke them out.

I was thinking too much aswell.
Mine work out at just over £1 a pair, dailies, 1 is toric, the other isn't.
I am sure you can get them cheaper online.

We pay £15pm for DD's Toric Monthlies from Specsavers - who give you half price glasses as part of the contract.

I didn't realise highstreet would be so much cheaper. What make are the specsavers ones?

Oooooooooh Milliways, that sounds interesting. I would only pay £1/day if I was wearing them occasionally but it's likely they'll be my main form of vision enhancement for a bit so that's way too pricey. Ouch!

i pay about £14 per month for the continual wear lenses

DH also on specsavers - £13 per month for something a bit fancier.

I pay £22 per month for dailies

i wear mine for 30 days, dont have to take them out at night or anything. throw them away after the month and put a new pair in

I use Focus Dailies, from Asda, £22/month if I wear them every day, which I don't.

That is the price for 30 prs, I probably wear them 6 days/week on average.

harleyd, don't your eyes kind of dry out if you wear them constantly? £14 a month sounds brilliant though....where do you get them from?

Miliways - that is really cheep for torics! Speaksavers said I would need to pay £30 per month!

squirdle, i used to use the dailies and they really irritated me if i kept them in for more than 6 or 8 hours a day
but i havent had a single problem with these lenses, the optician did suggest leaving them out one night a week just to have a break from them, but i dont usually bother
they're from boots opticians btw, ive just looked tho and its actually £16...still reasonable

You have to pay by Direct Debit. It would be £30 for daily Torics - but we can't afford that, so have a few dailies for camping trips etc. DD has Astigmatism so needs Toric, but they are "Own brand" and seem fine.

Am now thinking mine aren't that expensive, though I have only just started having a toric.
Normal ones were £84 for 90 pairs, plus £6 a month subscription to get the cheaper price. So £102 for 90 pairs.
Toric is a bit more expensive, but not that much and can't remember exactly how much it was because I got 90 torics but only 60 for the other eye as had some left over.
So actually a bit more than £1 a pair, but can't see anything cheaper online yet.

Specsavers show standard lens prices here, from £8pm including solutions, our is £15pm for Toric including solutions and delivery, and regular check-ups.

Good thing for DD, is every time her prescription changes we just swap any remaining lenses for the new prescription.

and get free care with the £6 per month, which I would have to pay separately for if I brought online.

would torics be more than that at specsavers? that's cheaper than I am paying

I have a months supply of dailies from Specsavers, I pay £22 pm.

I get mine from contactlenses.co.uk - 6 months supply of monthly disposable for £36. The exact same ones used to cost me £10 a month in Boots - ie, £60 for six months' supply.
