Dd2 seems to have had a relapse

Some of you may remember that last year dd2 was reffered to the hospital because she was lethargic all the time, and dealthy pale. After blood tests which revealed slightly low iron reserves and lots of poking and prodding they basically said that it was probably post viral fatigue syndrome , although it was rare in a child of her age.

Anyway, it has returned with avengance. Dd looks like the walking dead, so pale and lifless, keep complaining that her legs ache and is soooo tired again.

So do i take her back again for another round of tests with no conclusion or just fill her up with Minadex and hope that it passes.
She was like it from March to Julyish last year.

Would feel awful putting her though more blood tests for nothing, but then at the same time, what if ???

Nutty - when she had pneumonia was she in hospital? Did they monitor her oxygen sats (glowy thing on her finger)?

I do think you should go to the GP tomorrow as piffle says and tell them how worried you are. I've just been speaking to another mum whose child's heart problem has been missed and whilst it doesn't happen often its worth getting it checaked if only for your peace of mind.

Good luck.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:24

Yep she did have the glowy thingy , thats what first alerted them to a prob, she had it on in a&e and all the alarms went off.

She was in hospital for a week, asleep for most of it.

You'll drive yourself nuts, Nutty, looking at all the heart defects, there's toooooo many.

But - if she had a heart condition the makes her cyanosed (blue) then her sats would be below normal even after the pneumonia was cleared.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:29

Good point, but they stopped doing her sats after the first day though. Just carried on with oxygen for 48 hours and nebulisers.

you will drive yourself mad nutty. take your fears/questions to the GP tomorrow and dont let them fob you off.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:30

Fingers crossed it is just her asthma playing up again, although the being freezing cold with blue lips is worrying me cos i have never heard of that in an asthmatic before.

They often have a sats monitor at the GP's nutty - ask them to hook her up if they have one.

Let us know how you get on.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:34

Ooooh do they Potty, didn't know about that, will go in hunt for it

Will let you all know how we get on.

I hope today you get some referrals, your dd needs her va va voom back

thinking of you x x

Right back from docs. Appointment went well for a change.
I told her about the lethargy and blue lips etc and she listened to her chest and sai it was clear but because her cold was a while ago and she still had a cough that she was struggling to get rid of, she was going to give her antibiotics.
She said that the blue lips did immeidatly make her think heart prob, but she had a good listen to her heart and she said she couldn't hear anything wrong.
She was still quite concerned however and is going to ring and speak to the peads secretary because our next appointment isn't until end of may (my fault).
Oh and dd has to have another blood test next wednesday morning.
She said that basically a 5 year old shouldn't be like this all the time and that a cold shouldn't set her off into weeks of lethargy etc and so it needs further investigation which obviously i am happy with cos i kjnow she isn't right.

We walked back from the docs with dd moaning after 2 minutes that she was tired and wanted to sit down, she is now siting on the sofa looking like she could sleep for a month.

Thanks again to all of you concern

Nutty - good to hear that your GP is taking things seriously. Hopefully you can get back in to see the paed again shortly.

My dd didn't initially have a heart murmur, it only appeared later. Maybe ask the paed to do an ECG - it costs nothing and isn't invasive so there shouldn't be a problem - then at least you can put that worry aside.

nutcracker · 05/04/2005 13:13

Thanks Potty

I am pleased that the gp has taken it serioulsy as i was worried. Dd is worrying about the blood test now, so have asked dp to take the day off as she will more than likely struggle.

Will definatly be pushing for them to check her heart at the hospital as i think that is the only thing that will put my m ind fully at rest as far as thats concerned.

Update : Took dd2 for her blood test at the suregery only to be told they don't do peadiatric bloods there . I told them she had had her last ones done there and they said yes but thats because the phlebotomist was employed by the hospital and now she isn't.

Anyway, they had a word with one of the nurses and she was peadiatric trained so she agreed to do it at the end of surgery.

Dd2 was brilliant, didn't even flinch (magic cream seemed to work alot better this time). Hopefully results will be in late friday or early monday.

A friend of mine had concerns over her ds heart and as there is a family history of heart probs on her dh side they put some sort of monitor strapped to his chest for 24 hours - then they had to wait ages for results (which were clear) I think they then tested him for Anemia incase it was that
