Dd2 seems to have had a relapse

Some of you may remember that last year dd2 was reffered to the hospital because she was lethargic all the time, and dealthy pale. After blood tests which revealed slightly low iron reserves and lots of poking and prodding they basically said that it was probably post viral fatigue syndrome , although it was rare in a child of her age.

Anyway, it has returned with avengance. Dd looks like the walking dead, so pale and lifless, keep complaining that her legs ache and is soooo tired again.

So do i take her back again for another round of tests with no conclusion or just fill her up with Minadex and hope that it passes.
She was like it from March to Julyish last year.

Would feel awful putting her though more blood tests for nothing, but then at the same time, what if ???

whats the skin round her eyes like? colour/dryness etc?

nutcracker · 30/03/2005 21:58

The skin around her eyes is dark, like she hasn't slept for a month.

Or do you mean her actual eye ??

OP posts:
misdee · 31/03/2005 19:54

could be allergic reaction if the skin round the eyes goes darker after each 'episode'. worth getting it checked.

nikcola · 01/04/2005 15:28

Was also wondering about allergies. Our dd (now 6) was similar with lethargy, dark lips, dark circles under her eyes all spring.
How worrying for you nutty! I hope that you find a resolution soon. Thinking of you and dd.

nutcracker · 02/04/2005 22:21

Hiya, sorry for not updating sooner.

Well i have an appointment at the docs for tuesday now.to assess her asthma meds and speak to gp about her relapse.

She is a bit better but still tired and pale, plus slight temp on and off. I am thinking that she may have a cold that is taking along long time to go, but then thats what started the last episode of lethargy and that lasted for months.

Am going to look into the allergy thing. Is the dark eyes thing due to any particular allergy or can it be any ??

nutcracker · 02/04/2005 22:22

Oh and thanks all for asking about her

dark bags under the eyes are a typical sign of allergies (in my dd case it was dairy)

misdee · 03/04/2005 08:24

my dd's suffer with dark circles under their eyes as they are atopic. if they have an allergic reaction then their circles get darker, they look exhuasted. they are called atopic shiners.

Nutty - has dd had UTI's in the past? My dd had them as a young child and never complained of the 'usual' symptoms. She often just had a low grade fever that came and went and looked and felt exhausted. You could take a sample along to your GP just to rule it out.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 20:38

Thanks again for replies. Dd1 at this age was absolutly fine, she has always been a child that rarly gets ill though.

Anyway this morning Dd2 was fine at first but then at about lunch time she started to dither and had blue lips, freezing cold hands and was generally very very cold and pale looking.
Wrapped her in a blanket and my mom snuggled on the sofa with her and she was fine after a bit but it is very weird, like something is up with her circulation. I mean it definatly wasn't cold in thge house, i was walking around in a sleevless top and i usually feel the cold.

Am gonna make a list for the g.p again cos i always forget what i want to say.

Will mention the allergy possibilty and see what they say.

Oh she has also been complaining of aching legs, headache and tummyache too.
Told her i was just gonna chop her up into bits and put her back together again, see if that worked

Potty - Sorry meant to answer you then. No she hasn't had any UTI's.

not meaning to frighten you Nutty hon,but as I have a dd with a heart condition I have been told to watch out many of the symptoms you mention nutty. My dd usually gets post viral fatigue and it does not lay her as low as your dd has sounded.
I'd treat it as urgent tomorrow at the Dr's
hope she is ok now and sleeping ok
xx

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 20:52

Piffle - A heart prob has crossed my mind before but then i always thought it would have been picked up when ever they listened to her with the steathascope, but then i spose they were only listening to her breathing and not her heart.

Plus dd is usually not very cooperative so i think the last time went to the hospital they didn't listen to her heart at all.

OP posts:
misdee · 04/04/2005 20:53

peter heart problems were only picked up on x-ray and echo.

i am not saying your dd has a heart problem. but does sound like the poor mite is ill. hope they find out whats wrong soon.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 21:13

Ahh right thanks Misdee.

I really should learn not to google too, as i just scared myself silly.

OP posts:
misdee · 04/04/2005 21:30

also dd2 murmur was only picked up at a hospital check up for something else, no gp had ever picked it up.

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 21:36

Have googled some more and it seems her symptoms could be either an asthma prob (which she already has) or a heart prob.

Both things listed fatigue and blue tinged lips but neither mentioned about her being so cold that she shivers.
The blue lips definatly happens when she is cold (and i mean icy cold), but what would make her gets soooooo cold it's almost like she has hypothermia or something.

OP posts:
misdee · 04/04/2005 21:50

peter gets the shivers. but he is also asthmatic.

i am really not helping am i?

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 21:55

Erm nope, nah only kidding.

Had a look on the nhs direct website, but everytime it asks for symptoms, i have to click yes to blue lips and it flashes at me to call 999.

The blue lips for asthma though would only occur when it was severe it said and as far as i can tell it isn't. I mean when she had pneumonia she didn't even get blue lips and her breathing is okish, definatly not bad, or as bad as it has been in the past.

Checked a site for heart conditions in children and there was a long list, one did have a list of symptoms which did sort of smack me in the face but refuse to panic until i have seen doc.

OP posts:
misdee · 04/04/2005 22:05

which one was it?

nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:08

Erm hang on will have to go check.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 04/04/2005 22:20

Ok, there was Pulmonary Valvar stenosis, symptoms being fatigue, shortness of breath, poor appetite etc and Cardiomyopothy whose symptoms seemed simliar too.

Most of the heard conditions listed fatigue and shortness of breath though obviously. None listed shivering though.

Ooooh i dunno, i know something isn't right though.
