I think it is from an ingrowing hair, but I removed said hair two days back, lots of pus came out , and yet, it is still there, and very very VERY sore.

It is quite big too, and in a place that, unless urgent, I am not willing to show to any of my docs...........and in a sensitive place.

is there anything I can do, or is this a doc cas.....((hopes like hell not))

Sounds like a small boil....hot bath required.

BBBee · 02/01/2009 22:36

I had an ingrowing hair become infected - was exactly as you described and went on its own in next feww days.

If it is full of puss then I think that you could probably leave it a day or too. Just keep it clean. Perhaps bathe it in some antiseptic. If it starts to become more swollen then I would go to GP.

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:36

I did the hot bath, yesterday......still there.

or was I supposed to do something in said hot bath???

I had a boil there and when it popped, it was THE most satisfying thing ever. Show it to the doc, they will have seen far worse, believe me.

LittleMissNorty · 02/01/2009 22:37

squeeze it? Get rid of the rest.

mrsmaidamess · 02/01/2009 22:37

There is a paste you can buy from the chemist which 'draws' things out, like splinters, or boils, Magnesium Sulphate. You could try that?

differentID · 02/01/2009 22:38

hot bath and gentle manipulation. The heat from the water should negate the burn from the pressure.

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:38

BBBee.....a few days I can do....if it will go away.

DNA......do not worry.....DH is staying FAR away.....the wincing is not exactly conducitve to a good turn-on!

Now I would get this looked at sooner rather than later.

I had what I thought was an ingrowing hair when pg with ds2 (who is now 7 months old). Mentioned it at my 8 week check and dr didn't examine it but said to give it al good old squeeze after a long soak in the bath.

5 months on and it's about 4 times bigger and I can no longer squeeze any pus from it so am on a whacking great course of ab's to clear it which (5 days in) don't seem to be touching it. I'm tyring to not think too much about what might come next......

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 02/01/2009 22:39

Mine is in a slightly embarassing position too

smugmumofboys · 02/01/2009 22:39

I used to have this alot when I waxed. They were painful but very satisfying to squeeze.

Tea tree oil might help - it's what my beauty therapist uses after waxing/electrolysis.

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:40

I have tried squeezing..........there is only so much squeezing you can do at that particular place before you start to cry, believe me.

I am not keen on showing the docs.....altho I will if it can be releived.

I am at least pleased that it is 'only' a boil.......I admit to a small panic for a day or so!

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2009 22:41

Salt water will help draw it out if it is a boil, and help soften the skin so you can squeeze it to reduce the pressure.

I know it's gross but as soon as you pop it although it might hurt it will feel much better. Just keep it clean after.

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:42

ooh....tea tree oil......I like the smell of that and it is a far better thought that the 'ointment stuff' to draw things out......

OP posts:
psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:43

1 Q.......how do you 'pop it'??

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2009 22:45

By squeezing it - the skin will be much softer after soaking it and if its with salt water all the better.

After soaking it a few times it shouldn't need much squeezing before it pops - once it has done clean the area with salt water/tea tree oil

NutterlyUts · 02/01/2009 22:46

hold a hot flannel on it for a few mins, then repeat a couple of times, then squeeze :D

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:46

ok, I will be soaking some more in the morning then.

I was imagining pins tho......

OP posts:
psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:49

ooh.......hot flannels I could do tonight......

OP posts:
NutterlyUts · 02/01/2009 22:52

Do it
You will feel so much better after it. They need to be hot enough so its almost but not quite too hot to tolerate ime

psychohohohoho · 02/01/2009 22:53

but......it is near a very sensitive part of me.

will it be OK??

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2009 22:57

Yes it will be fine.

I have used an old cap from something like deodrant and filled it with really hot salty water and kind of held it against the boil for as long as I could bear (gross I know) but depending where it is may involve some acrobatics.

Failing that use a flannel like someone else said, but fill the sink with hot water so you can keep reheating it a few times.

NutterlyUts · 02/01/2009 22:58

Should be unless you wap it on kettle boiling hot?! Since you can fold the flannel to the size needed, and avoid delicate parts

differentID · 02/01/2009 22:58

psycho- I've had one on my hood, so yes I know how bad it can be. I cried.
