I used the rest of our left overturkey which I can remember as being on date for at least a few days after Christmas.

I made a supreme style dish with cream , white wine and onions. Ate it about an hour ago, sister and dd had their earlier and I now feel really sick.

DD and sister are out at the moment and I cant get hold of them.

CoteDAzur - 5 day old cooked meat will be fine. How long does it sit on the supermarket shelf??

Cooking thoroughly has everything to do with it. If you are reheating meat, especially poultry, then you need to make sure that it completely hot right through just in case there was any bacteria lurking. If it's brought back up to a high temperature then any bacteria would be destroyed.

But if it's been stored properly in the fridge, then just 5 days is going to be fine. I've had ham in the fridge for 10 days now!

My point that even meat that is cooked to a crisp goes bad in time.

Food poisoning takes quite a few hours, though. 6-7 hours, ime, but your mileage may vary.

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 19:11

I reckon the cream.

re "How long does it sit on the supermarket shelf??"

Err... Obviously, cooked food that sits on supermarket shelf for weeks has additives that conserve food for longer.

Supermarkets also sell food cooked on the day or at most the day before, but these are kept in the cold, not on the shelves. I've never seen any sold 5 days after being cooked, in any case.

Anyway, to each their own. Enjoy your turkey

morningpaper · 29/12/2008 19:20

nah I buy stuff without additives that lasts for WEEEEEEKS

TWINSETinapeartree · 29/12/2008 19:21

Well I have had my exorcist moment.

Thanks MP

oh

should I stop eating the turkey then?

DH suggested I freed it back into the wild today

morningpaper · 29/12/2008 19:23

DID YOU REHEAT IT FOR HOURS AND HOURS? THAT IS THE CRUCIAL THING

TWINSETinapeartree · 29/12/2008 19:24

Jolly she has just taken dd out to call on a friend and left saying that she had never eaten so well and we would need to kick her out or she may never leave.

if you have really been sick only an hour after eating it then it is probably a D&V virus

does that help at all

check the others for signs of organ failure

DumbledoresGirl · 29/12/2008 19:24

I have it on medical advice that food poisoning takes 2-4 hours. The turkey is innocent!

TWINSETinapeartree · 29/12/2008 19:25

No I cooked it on the day, let it cool and refrigerated it. Have been using if for sandwiches and then today.

Sorry you threw up. On the bright side, by throwing up you may have avoided diarrhea.

TWINSETinapeartree · 29/12/2008 19:26

What is it the turkey sandwich I had for lunch?

There are lots of viruses going round though arent they.

I am of course forgetting that the sister I may have poisoned is a nurse

DumbledoresGirl · 29/12/2008 19:27

Yeah, better out than in

morningpaper · 29/12/2008 19:27

did anyone else have the turkey-sandwich-at-lunch?

I reckoned the cooked stuff is fine

Flihgtattendant · 29/12/2008 19:27

Quick, RUN!!!!!

TWINSETinapeartree · 29/12/2008 19:28

Thanks Cote

I had a toilet incident this morning but I suffer from IBS and have eaten a lot of trigger foods so I assumed it was that.
