title says it all really. have been to the gp several times. its getting embarassing. am sure they think i am a total hypochondriac.
feel sick all the time (am popping pepto bismol tablets like theres no tomorrow), dizzy/faintness, gynae probs (ie bleeding between periods and after sex)- no idea if this is related. no appetite really but tummy still seems to be getting bigger . feeling run down, depressed and thoroughly fed up. thought i was going rto throw up in car after picking up kids and cancelled ds2's haircut as thought wouldnt make it. rushed into the house but nothiing. wasnt sick but feel it.
i know there are tummy bugs going around but honestly this isnt just a recent thing, its been weeks and weeks of it. i even thought i might be pg as i felt so bad (despite the fact dh and i have not had sex for ages as i have no libido at all and he has had the snip ).
i just dont know what to do next. any ideas at all what this could be or do i just have to keep going back to gp all the time? have a gynae appt next month to investigate the bleeding btw.
any help/reassurance/advice gratefully received

Yep I was thinking along the same lines as Anna - dont want to worry you unnecessarily tho'. It would however be easier to treat if found in early stages if it is ovarian cancer. Get GP appintment immediately.

ledodgy · 27/11/2008 18:06

Go and get seen it probably isn't but if it is time is essential so go to find out the facts or put your mind at rest. My friend's mum had ovarian cancer years ago in fact she went to the drs thinking she was pregnant. She had a hysterectomy and is fine now. It is treatable but you need to get seen immediatley. Good Luck.

belcantwait · 27/11/2008 18:06

altho it does say its most common in women over 55 (not me) and those who have never been pg (def not me!). will make another appt in the morning.

Oh belcantwait, how horribly scary for you. If it's any consolation, I can read about illnesses and find symptoms to fit virtually anything! I have looked up ovarian cancer too and it says it is most common between the ages of 50 and 70 and not having had children adds to the risk factor. So, presuming you are under 50, your risk is quite low.

Get it looked into though.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/11/2008 18:09

x posts.

That's right: adopt some positive thinking.

belcantwait · 27/11/2008 18:09

i meant to say last year i had probs with my periods- they were becoming more and more scarce- at one point i hadnt had one for about 13 weeks. i went to gynae then as gp thought my abdomen felt lumpy - gynae did a transvaginal scan (ughh) but it showed nothing. not a thing.
oh another weird thing- but maybe its not weird at all- is that i need to wee all the time. as in i have a wee, go up to bed and literally as soon as i get in bed i have to go for another wee. is this relevant do you think? never mentioned this to the gp

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 27/11/2008 18:11

Yes, everything is relevant. In the medical book I am reading, under ovarian cancer, one of the symptoms is a frequent need to pass urine.

ledodgy · 27/11/2008 18:11

That can be a symptom ov OC too i'm afraid but it's also a symptom of alot of other things. I'd stop googling and see a do tommorrow. The fatc the scan last year was clear is a very good sign.

ledodgy · 27/11/2008 18:12

print this off and show it to your gp tommorrow and explain why you are concerned.

belcantwait · 27/11/2008 18:20

i have printed it off now. thanks ledodgy

Anna8888 · 27/11/2008 19:42

Good luck - and try to get your GP to get you a referral to the gynaecologist ASAP for a full body scan and an MRI if possible .

belcantwait · 27/11/2008 21:09

thanks anna (and everyone else)

i am going to write down every damn thing thats wrong with me and take it to hee tomorrow.

feeling so ill now i am going to bed- i only seem to feel ok when i am asleep. rubbish.

will update tomorrow if i manage to get an appointment.

if by any chance she wont let me have a scan is there any way i can pay for a private one do you know? and if i do, and they find something wrong, am i then able to be seen by nhs doctors to sort the problem out???

OP posts:
Anna8888 · 27/11/2008 21:16

I think that if you go to the GP with the list of symptoms that ledodgy linked to, and just tick off on the printed list all the symptoms you have, and say you are extremely worried and want a referral right now, you will get one. Be assertive (be brave, too, I know this is horribly difficult).

If your GP doesn't budge, ask to see another GP in the surgery immediately.

I don't think you should have to pay for a scan with all the symptoms and the obvious ill health you have - the NHS must pay. But of course you can always call a BUPA hospital (or another private hospital) and get a scan if you want.

belcantwait · 28/11/2008 09:31

i have an appt with gp at 11.30. will update what she says later x

Anna8888 · 28/11/2008 09:33

Good luck. XXX

PavlovtheCat · 28/11/2008 09:37

It is most likely nothing as serous as cancer, but it is better to rule these things out for peace of mind as quickly as possible and find out the true cause of what is making you feel so awful.

Never just take what one Dr says as the absolute diagnosis. Always ask for a second opinion if you are in any way not happy with action taken/not being taken by your GP. I am not saying GPs do not know what they are doing, of course not, but sometimes mistakes happen and things are not always followed through properly (time, habit, routine, own personal issues etc etc) and if you are not comfortable with the decisions made, see another one for clarity.

Niecie · 28/11/2008 09:40

Fingers crossed for you Belcantwait.

ledodgy · 28/11/2008 09:41

Good Luck x

PavlovtheCat · 28/11/2008 09:44

Also, if you really are now concerned as OV cancer has been mentioned, if you do not get any satisfactory response from your GP, or another GP, you will be able to walk into A&E and present the same symptoms that you are talking about now and they will run the tests/scans/pass you to the ward that will do them immediately as they do take it seriously.

My Mothers GP told her she should go to see a stomach specialst (can't remember what they are called, mind has gone blank) and was given an appt 6 weeks down the line. Told her it was gas. Mum became very unwell over a weekend and went to A&E as Dr not available. She had scan/tests straight away and had diagnosis by the tuesday. She did not go back to see her GP, everything was then sorted by hospital from the on.

Good luck though, and think that most illnesses are not cancer.

belcantwait · 28/11/2008 09:47

thank you all

pavlovthecat- you must live quite near me- i am in devon too!

OP posts:
Anna8888 · 28/11/2008 09:48

Agree with Pavlov - you can go to A&E if your GP doesn't take you seriously, or you can ring NHS Direct for advice.

Fingers crossed your GP gets all the tests in motion. Whatever is wrong with you (and in all likelihood it isn't as serious as cancer) you need it sorted now, you sound so unwell .

PavlovtheCat · 28/11/2008 09:51

(oh what part of Devon? I am in Plymouth)
