If you could just give me a couple of examples of your daily diet that would be great.

i think people are probably wary of sticing their necks out!
i just ate packet of chocolate biscuits [breastfeeding binge] but can describe my usual meals without the crap on top if you like? i do try to eat basically healthy stuff

notnowbernard · 18/11/2008 20:38

Muesli and a slice of wholemeal toast for breakfast

sometimes fruit mid-morning

If at home, something on toast for lunch (cheese, beans, egg etc) Fruit after

Might have a cracker or something mid-pm

Always have a cooked from scratch dinner. Has to contain 'flesh' of some description (for dp) and always have veggies with it

IMO you can afford to be a bit liberal with the oil and butter and cheese etc if all your grub is home prepared and unprocessed

I don't eat anything sweet but do rather enjoy a drink

fishie · 18/11/2008 20:40

i am fairly healthy. breakfast half protein half bread + fruit. lunch ditto. evenings half veg half protein. i like meat/fish/beans. not cheese it is too fattening. sometimes egg for breakfast.

generally i do not eat much (any) sweet stuff but alas lots of wine so i am a bit fat.

notnowbernard · 18/11/2008 20:41

Dinner might be a home cooked curry (dp does it not me, alas)

Have just had chicken thighs with leeks and potato wedges with a 'potatas bravas' (sp?) sauce. Was lovely and dead easy to make

littlerach · 18/11/2008 20:42

Not sure if mine is the ealthiest bt here goes:
Mueslei and coffee

Fruit mid morning
More coffee

Lunch usually soup or sandwich and more fruit

Dinner (vegetarian) could be anyhting. Had pasta and pesto tonight, with peas. Followed by more fruit and have just had 3 chocolates.
Last night I had a rice and vegetable gratin.
Tomorrow I ma making thai curry.

Also drink as much water as I can all day.

I try ot eat healthy, but also eat crap at times. Balance and all that!

NoNickname · 18/11/2008 20:42

OK, I consider that I eat heathily. I nearly always get my five a day of fruit and veg. But I am currently eating only about 1500 calories a day as I am trying to lose weight. Here's what I had today:

Breakfast was a slice of "Stamp Collection New York Deli Bread" with a thin spread of peanut butter on (sounds not healthy, but it's important to get some protein with every meal - and besides, I don't have it every day).

Snack - a small, plain yoghurt.

Lunch was a mixed salad (cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, mixed sprouted beans, sweetcorn) with some tinned tuna and a splash of balsamic vinegar, with a couple of oat cakes.

Snack - banana and three brazil nuts.

Dinner was mixed beans and veg (carrot, onion, red peppers) chilli, on half a roasted sweet potato, with broccoli.

Plus - two litres of plain water, sipped throughout the day.

IllegallyBrunette · 18/11/2008 20:42

Oh so far so good, thanks.

Franny, you can leave the crap in if you like as it will still be healthier than my current diet.

liath · 18/11/2008 20:42

I'd say I'm healthy-ish.

Breakfast - cheerios & crunchy bran or porridge & cup of tea. Small glass orange juice.

Mid-morning - fruit or home-made muffin. Tea.

Lunch - veg soup & bread or ploughman's type lunch with bread and cheese, pickled beetroot, chutney, sliced apple etc.

Mid-afternoon - tea +/- couple of squares of chocolate.

Evening meal - something homecooked, had roast chicken tonight.

We have a takeaway once a fortnight or so. I probably drink too much tea and not enough water and could eat more fruit. I drink alcohol 2-3 nights a week and usually just one glass of wine.

HTH

no sugar/salt added muesli and skimmed milk and banana or eggs with toast and an apple
lentil and veg soup with slice wholemeal toast, grapes or ham salad sandwich and a yoghurt with fruit
homemade wholemeal fruit scone and apple
beef stew with sweet potato and broccoli or chicken and veg tortillas - I don't really like pudding so the kids have it, but I don't.
Lots of water and 2 coffees
Not sure if I should mention the wine and even crisps that will follow!

ilovemydog · 18/11/2008 20:45

Am really trying to cut out carbs. Today:

breakfast: cereal with no fat yoghurt (and tons of coffee )

lunch: half can of Tuna and 3 oat cakes

dinner: marinated chicken breast (half) with terriyaki and brocolli/green beans

AuraofDora · 18/11/2008 20:49

today:

porridge w/ s-s milk
expresso coffee little sugar

vegetable soup, bread & cheese

fresh carrot and pineapple juice

leek quiche, winter salad (a coleslaw type affair grated carrot, celeriac, beetroot, sunflower seeds, chopped spinach and onion) w/ lemon vingarette

lots of water (at least 2 pints a day)
few biscuits here and there

not uber healthy but all food made by us
alcohol is out the window at the moment but that's financial

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 20:50

ok fair enough
breakfast: oats with raisins, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, soya milk and usually 4 types of fruit eg apple, pear, banana, grapes
lunch today was peanut butter sandwich, chickpeas, beetroot, cucumber, tomatoes, red pepper
then chocolate brownie in town
for dinner: veg stew with kidney beans, parsnips, mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes and sweetcorn
then the packet of biscuits
and 2 satsumas (cancels out biscuits lol)
and redbush tea to drink

nickytwotimes · 18/11/2008 20:50

These daily eats sound lovely, but I can't help thinking they'd be so much nicer with a bar of Dairy Milk thrown in...

We (well DP) cook almost everything from scratch. Except bread.
The only tinned foods we use are tomatoes and cooked pulses.
We don't add sugar to anything. We only buy plain yoghurt.
I avoid anything with more than 3 ingredients on the label and particulary avoid additives and e-numbers.

But we don't eat enough salad and tend to fry everything in olive oil...

fishie · 18/11/2008 20:55

oh yes i drink lots of water and make wildly healthy bread, but only eat it once a day.

IllegallyBrunette · 18/11/2008 20:59

These are all fab thanks.

Going to read through them properly tommorow as I don't feel well right now so am going to go to bed.

I say that my diet is about 80-90% healthy.

the unhealthy part is wine (about 3 times per week) and chocolate, equivalent of one standard bar most nights.

This helps me with a balance of eating fairly healthily the rest of the time.

Breakfast - some type of oat based cereal with semi skimmed milk. Often banana with it.

Snack - yogurt/fruit or plain biscuits.

Lunch - I don't eat much bread, just one slice if I have a sandwich. Might have beans/scrambled egg on toast.

I have 2 coffees each day (and one or 2 decaffs as well) I also drink water, occasionally very diluted fruit juice (at least 50% water with it)

Dinner is whatever we need to eat from our veg box. At this time of year stuff like roasted veg (anything). Tonight I made lentil and veggie curry with brown rice. We are not veggie but do eat veggie maybe 3 times per week. I do quite "simple" meals - baked potatoes, pasta, risotto, chicken noodle soup.

I limit convenience food. We tend to have organic yogurts and milk. I don't buy fizzy drinks at all. I buy pure butter but use it sparingly rather than "spreads"

morningpaper · 18/11/2008 21:03

someone on here said recently that they made sure their plate was at least 1/2 vegetables and they ate that first

I thought that was Good Advice

OsmosisBOOnana · 18/11/2008 21:08

B/fast is always the same, can't stomach anything else

1 piece brown toast with butter n marmite
banana
small yoghurt
tea

lunch tends to be a big salad with some sprouting things to bulk it up and some sort of protein - either a boiled egg or some smoked salmon or mackarel

or a clives pie (veggie / healthy gorgeousness) from the NUS shop if I've left it by the door again

dinner will be something more substantial as DH is a tree fella and ravenous.

Poss 3 bean chilli with tacos
or chicken n chorizo stew
or halloumi n roast pepper n chickpea thing
or steamed fish n veg

I did a nutritional analysis on it at uni and it came out reasonably well. Bit protein heavy, carb light but that's intentional, carbs make me sluggish.

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/11/2008 21:18

Well - I'm doing WW atm so am reasonably healthy

Today, I had

Brekkie - 2 x weetabix, skimmed milk and a handful of blueberries

Lunch - Jacket potato with peppers, mushrooms and low fat cream cheese and a big green salad

Dinner - Salmon steak with spinach and herby lentils

Snacks - 2 x satsumas

Drinks - 1 coffee, 1 diet coke and lots of water

iliketrees · 18/11/2008 21:46

ALl these diets sound a lot better than mine..for a long time I've put my crap diet down to eating kids leftover food rather than making sure I have a proper meal..got to sort that out. sorry to digress but interestd in doing a veggie thai curry for friend next week - noticed that littlerach mentioned it - what veg works well and how do you do it?

SubRosa · 18/11/2008 23:18

Breakfast: toast and banana, cup of redbush tea

Lunch: coffee, ham salad sandwich, handful of small tomatoes

Dinner: Pasta, with cheese and loads of olive oil

Supper: Glass of red wine; cheese, crackers, half a kilo (!) of olives
