So many minor problems, how do I cover it all at the docs without sounding like a neurotic?

I have to go to the doctors, it is getting silly. I hate going, always feel like I'm making very large mountains out of molehills.

Problem is now i have these issues:

  1. Stonking Carpel Tunnel, have had it badly before;

  2. Wee issues (possibly OCD related - non diagnosed OCD that is, purely tenancies, not saying I have OCD as such iyswim) which mean I'm up till at least 1am every night / morning!

  3. Fainting / dizzy spells becoming quite regular / aversion to lights etc.

  4. Now I know there is a 4th thing but do you think I can even remeber what it is? No I cannot!

So, the question is, how do I cover these things without sounding like an idiot? Should I just pick the worst and forget about the rest? Which is the most pressing issue?

Short of that, could someone just come to the GP with me and explain all?

Shameless neurotic bump!

Just write it all down. It's better to have one appointment and go through all that's bothering you than to have 3 appointments.

Start off with the fainting first and ask if it could be related to 1 and 2.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 10/11/2008 21:58

Good idea! I wonder if they could be related? One thing is for sure, I will go mad if one or more of them do not get sorted soon! Thank you

I find it's normally interconnected

I have a list like yours (well completely different but just as long)

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 10/11/2008 22:03

Do you dislike going to the gP as much as me KatyMac?
I just always feel like they're sat their thinking 'god, this woman is wasting my time'!
{Perhaps I should add paranoia to my list?!

WHen I was in my early 20's I saw my GP about my need for professional help as I felt I was a hypochondriac - he said "unfortunately Katymac I can't do that, you actually have everything you think you have"

Which is pretty much how the rest of my life has gone

I get stuff - all the time

I don't mind going to the GP if I have one clearly defined specific problem

Usually it is just a morass of minor insignificant symptoms which add together to make nothing much other than "I get stuff - all the time"

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 10/11/2008 22:19

Totally understand what you're saying. The exact problem is never a problem for me either, it's the mush of minor ones!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 10/11/2008 22:20

Tomorrow is

Sore throat
Stiff neck
Swollen gland (9 months or so)
Bad chest
Sinuses
& earache

All relatively minor except I have been times in about 4 weeks

see here

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 10/11/2008 22:22

Sounds nasty, hope it gets sorted for you.
I shall attempt to get my various points across too. Good luck to us both!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 10/11/2008 22:23

I write it down

You must too

Then if it all gets too much I just hand it over

Good luck

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 10/11/2008 22:26

That's a very good idea, will do that. Thank you

When is your appointment mine is on Thursday

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 11/11/2008 12:21

Mine is , as yet, unbooked I am awful at getting around to going to the GP's. This is probably why I end up with a list of problems.

OP posts:
KatyMac · 11/11/2008 12:23

I am officially nagging you to make your appointment (before you find symptom no5)

Have you remembered what no4 is yet?

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 11/11/2008 12:26

I think it may have been AF issues. They have been very heavy after birth of Dc2. That seems to have righted itself though....it also coould have been the fluttery heart thing that is linked to the dizzy spells.
I am falling apart!
(I will ring GP's this afternoon, I will, I will, I will)

gonaenodaethat · 11/11/2008 12:26

Make a double appointment and read the list to the doctor.
That way he/she knows what they have to deal with and can allocate each problem an appropriate amount of time within the consultation.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 11/11/2008 12:29

I had thought I may do that yes, I always feel a little rushed hen I finally drag myself in. Think I will ask to see a female GP too, can't be discussing wee issues with a male GP, I'd just go like this !!

OP posts:
twoisplenty · 11/11/2008 12:30

I was going to suggest a double appointment too. It sounds like you need an MOT!

Hope it goes well.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 11/11/2008 12:32

God, I hope it doesn't cost as much as the mOT for the car . Mind-you, the way prescription prices are going up.....(I'm starting to sound geriatric as well as neurotic now!)

OP posts:
EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 12/11/2008 16:23

KatyMac - I have made an appointment You would be proud of me, I stated a double one was needed and it had to be a female GP. The receptionist didn't even try to fob me off as she usually does, must have seen the fear in my eyes!!

PavlovtheCat · 12/11/2008 16:29

Katy - I have similar symptoms wrong with me often, and currently, as you.

Last time I posted on MN, it was suggested to get tested for hyperthyrodism (or was it hypo - the low one), which I am going to ask for tomorrow.

If you look it up on wiki, you will note that the different symptoms are long and can make you feel like you are a hypocondriac when in fact are all actually linked [shocked]. Sorry to hijack but it reminded me, and might be of use to you.

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 16:34

Thanks Pavlov - my thyroid is OK, my blood pressure is low & my blood sugar fluctuates (but it's not diabetes )

I think my lot atm is a cold gone wrong (I was ill for about 4-5 weeks in September) got over it and now it's back agin (about 4 weeks later)

PavlovtheCat · 12/11/2008 16:35

Katy - you sure you are not me? . I had throat infection in Sept, ill for 3 weeks, and now poorly again (although more like 8 weeks later).

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 16:57

Possibly I am

Are you very tired, miserable & bad tempered?

PavlovtheCat · 12/11/2008 17:04

That is definitely me, with a chesty cough, bunged up sinus, no energy, sore throat, fed up!
