how long with no urine output? - urgent response please

Yorkie girl has aksed me to post this as she is still not online.
Been @ A&E all pm with dd2 & dianosis of viral tonsilitis. Urine sample bag was put on at 3.30 this pm and she had 2 BF at 5 & 6.30 but still nothing in the sample bag and nappy dry. advise please.

No advice, but please can you tell YG that I hope her DD's better soon? Hugs to them both xxxxxxxxx

Do you mean a catheter? Does sound like a long time, but I take it she is in hospital still? They will be aware of this, and would probably be the reason they put in a catheter if thats what it is.

Is the baby crying tears? If not, then she is dehydrated. I don't know about the urine though. Hope she gets better soon.

no its not a catheter it is a selection bag similar to the bottles we wee in for samples...it is to collect a sample. No she is not in hospital she is home. now in bed.

Does she have a temperature or been vomiting/diarrhea. Basically is there somewhere the fluid could of gone. How does her tummy feel, is it tense or harder than usual? If you pinch her skin does it bounce back? I would be tempted to take her back again.

I thought they only started to get bothered after 24 hours

Sounds like an adhesive sample collecting bag rather than a catheter. How old is her dd2 ? I had a devil of a job getting a sample from dd at 3 1/2 months - seemed to wait much of the morning and took a couple fo feeds to produce any - and she pooed in one of our follow up sample bags as I obviously hadn't sealed it fully. If she is less than a year old and still nothing I think she should probably phone A and E and ask their advice.

sh is 11 months - keep advice coming but YG is going to phone now.

YG is phonging AE now. While I was on the phone to her she went into DD2 bedroom and opened sleeping bag and suit to feel inside. DD2 didn't stir which has made YG even more worried as she said she ususally would.

Could you not give her a cup of water to see if that helps? If dehydrated she will need the fluid, it may make her pass urine and if another internal reason it may make it easier to pick up.

Don't know if it will help reassure but DD 10 months often goes 6 or 7 hours with dry nappies

due to tonsilitus she won't take anything. YG has tried water, juice, milk but dd2 won't take it.

Twiglett - YG is worried as it is rare for A to go so long without a wet nappy.

So is those BF you mentioned all she has had all day?

how about a little ice? maybe crushed at that age but the cold can help soothe a sore throat

tried water etc in cup, bottle and even from a spoon but won't have it. she is ok when calpol working - still won't dringk water etc though as not sweet like calpol.

apple juice in it?

YG says she has tried everything.

can she alternate ibuprofen with calpol? ibuprofen lasts longer in pain relief

If that is all she has drunk all day then she will be dehydrated. Another idea maybe is an unsweetened orange juice lolly? Ring NHS direct to save time waiting in A and E unnecessarily. I don't know how long is too long in a child of this age but with the illness and lack of fliuds it does sound as though she is dehydrated and might need a bit of help in hospital. Let us know how it goes.
