Found a lump

I found a lump in my breast about 2 weeks ago and as yet haven't gone to the doctors. It is quite deep in the middle and there definitely isn't a matching one in the other side. I am 25 so am I right in thinking it is probably a cyst or hormonal? I know I need to go to the doctors but for some reason I am a bit scared of going. Is is ok to give it another couple of weeks and see if it is hormonal or should I just bite the bullet and go and risk them saying its nothing?

Thanks everyone. And hi, LM

I do feel relatively positive about it although I wish it wasn't happening. I think it's been caught fairly early in my case from what the doc said. Should get the results by Tuesday.

Lonelymum · 18/03/2005 19:12

Will think of you then and hope to hear some good news.

How is everyone else doing?

I went back today and got the results from the needle biopsy. They said it is a malignant lump (sp?) with some aggressive cells so they are going to remove it and some surrounding tissue next week. They said that they will look at it then and decide what if anything to do next. He said I would only have to go in for a day though which I was pleased about. I didn't really know what to say at the end so I shook his hand and said "well that was easy"! Think I was a bit suprised that he didn't say I was wasting their time!

sorry to hear you need further treatment, anchovies but well done you for going to the doctors and getting it all sorted out so early. will be thinking of you next week, xxxx

anchovies · 31/03/2005 12:29

Thanks bonniej, just grateful I asked on here and didn't put it off any longer!

Just wondering whether everyone who has a malignant tumour has to have radiotherapy afterwards? Did he not say I had to cos he's not sure whether it might be benign? Sorry for the stupid questions keep wishing I'd got myself together a bit more and actually asked him what it all meant!

anchovies, is there a number on your appt card you could phone? most people think of things to ask later and i would want to know that too. you could try leaving a message with one of the medical secretaries.

anchovies · 31/03/2005 20:46

Thanks bundle, tried that but she wouldn't tell me over the phone, said I had to write to her and she would post me copies of my notes. Basically will take ages! So have made an appointment at my GPs instead as she said my test results would be sent their in about a week. Bit annoyed with myself as have got a million questions which I can't get answered now.

hi Anchovies, bit of a shame they wouldn't talk to you on the phone. When I had my needle test the nurse kept saying that if I thought of any questions when I got home I shouldn't hesitate to ring her and ask.

Are you having a pre-op assessment? You should be able to ask questions then as well shouldn't you?

I have got my dates now. I'm having an assessment (m.o.t!)on 5th April and then the op to remove the lump on the 15th. Luckily mine is day surgery too so I'm mightily relieved! The less time I spend there the better as far as I'm concerned!

Don't know about you but I'm petrified at the thought of an operation but also glad that it's been caught early enough for that to be an option. The consultant says I am lucky the lump has caused dimpling of the skin as it can't be felt and I might not have found it for a couple of years otherwise. Will be glad to get it all over with!

Hi Pixel

Have got a feeling that my op is next week, will be glad to get it over with though so the sooner the better! Don't think I'm having the pre-op thing (having said that I dont know much though so could be!) but have a lovely GP who will hopefully sort me out! Did they mention what would happen afterwards to you? I just presumed that they would take the lump out and that would be it but dh isn't convinced. Also to add a little bit of a twist, we have been ttc and think we may have managed it this month, how typical! Not certain yet though so not going to panic just yet!

You're right about us being lucky it's so early, it's scary to think how much longer we could have gone without knowing isn't it. Having said that mines a whopping great lump that you cant miss but you're so right about your dimpling, so good you got it checked out.

It's lovely having people to talk to who are having exactly the same traumas!

No-one's mentioned to me about what happens afterwards. Suppose it depends on exactly what they find. Hopefully it will be a benign lump and that will be the end of it. A friend of mine had breast cancer and she had to have chemo and radiation therapy after her op to make sure it was all gone. She's fine now though.

Mmm getting pregnant maybe makes things a bit complicated (don't know much about these things), but it's still great news! Congratulations!
