This is so embarrassing but here goes....
I seem to have a very large water works / piles problem .
At night I go to the loo before bed but as soon as I get into bed I feel as if I need a we again. If I don't go then it keeps me awake. I don't think I have an infection as this has been going on for years.
I now seem to have developed a sort of OCD style problem with all this. I have got it into my head that if I sit on the loo for ages and attempt to squeeze every bit of wee out then I won't need to go through the getting up and going to the loo a million times in the night
This doesn't actually work as I still feel like I need the loo nomatter how long I've sat there
More problems: I can sit there for up to 40 minutes at a time - I know this is now out of control!
Resulting problem: I have hideous piles due to the amount of time spent sat on the loo
What on earth do I do?!

(OK, on re-read I really should have namechanged but now can't be bothered to change name and type all that out again! Oh, and apologies for emoticon overload!!)

No serious advice I'm afraid, but I hope you've got yourself a good book for on the lav!

Arrow words - everytime!!

now, you know yourself what you would say if any one of us had posted the same OP that you just have, don't you...

get thee to the doctor, woman!

It's probably something and nothing and will probably be fixed in five minutes. But you don't know till you go.

No need to be embarrassed about it, you've told us without a namechange, the docs can't possibly be worse than that

It does sound awful for you and I really hope you pluck up the courage and go and get this fixed asap.

xx

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 18:42

Thanks squonk
I know you're right but I can't help thinking the GP will just go, 'well don't spend that long on the loo then you daft cow'.!!

You need to go to gynocologist - I had wee problem but not the piles and he sorted it out - put a tape in to hold up bladder which had prolapsed and cut all episiotomy scars and resewed to sort out constipation and because the nazi midwife hadn't sewn me up properly and everything was bulging down.

If you are in the SE I can give you the name of a great guy who will have a look and fix you up!

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 18:51

Unfortunately I'm more Midlandish MadameC. Do you really think it could be an issue for a gynae? They won't just think I'm barmy?

OP posts:
piratecat · 19/10/2008 18:56

i hvae wee probs too. I need to go quite often, and then when i go my bladder almost doesn't seem to empty properly. Hence you can call me weepants.

oops havent name changed either. So i do what you do, i go back to the loo about ten mins later, and sit there thinking, rather than 'feeling' i might have more to wee.

Don't have the piles yet tho.

But i do think it's something that may happen, and i think it is something worth talking to your gp about tbh. Could be a slight prolapse, or an irritated bladder. You might have to see a wee nurse, who can show you how to re educate your bladder.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 19:05

piratecat - I'm sorry you're suffering too but, in a way, it's nice to know I'm not on my own!
You hit the nail on the head when you say you're 'thinking' you need to wee rather than 'feeling' it.
Right, think I'll call the GP tomorrow then. Prepare for the embarrassment!!

OP posts:
lulurose · 19/10/2008 19:14

I am the same with weeing (not piles though)...I sit to go and then as soon as I've stood up need to go again. At bedtime i get into bed and it plays on my mind that I need to go again, so up I get!

TBH I just assumed it was due to me having two largeish DDs close together and not doing my pelvic floors enough.

I will watch with interest and perhaps book a GPs appointment at half term.

Let us know what GP says if you do go, and good luck.

Twelvelegs · 19/10/2008 19:16

GP could refer you to a CBT counsellor if this continues, or you seek a hypnotherapist? Or you may find the doctor has some real exercises that may help.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 19:18

Will let you know lulurose!
Twelvelegs - I am quite willing to consider anything at the moment. It is really getting in the way now. It can take me 2 hours from when I start going to bed to the time I actually go to sleep and all due to going to the loo!

artichokes · 19/10/2008 19:21

I have had similar problems this pregnancy (not had it before). I was referred to a physio for other issues (SPD) but mentioned that I thought my pelvic floor must be damaged from my first birth as I needed the loo ALL the time and had no infection. She explained to be about the nerves in your bladder being extra sensitve in pregnancy making you think you need a wee when you really don't. Apparantly many women's brains get used to this and it dues not cure after birth because the brain is in a new pattern of thinking towards the bladder.

Just being told this, and taught some simple distraction techniques has really helped me. I can't recommend talking to a health care professional enough. I will go straight back if the problems re-emerge after this baby is born.

needmorecoffee · 19/10/2008 19:26

same problem here. wee, go to bed and within 10 minutes need to wee again. I think its psychological - its a pain to go so your mind dwells on it. Worse when camping as i'll wee 7 or 8 times over the space of a few hours!
So get up, go and go back to bed. Don't sit there.
And take some Kalms so they'll knock you out sooner rather than later.
Whats it like during the day?

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 19:29

Yes artichokes, I'm definitely going to speak to someone, it has got beyond daft!
Needmorecoffee - during the day I can go forhours if I need to, experience no problems at all. It's almost as if it is worse when I have time to stop and think about it.

OP posts:
needmorecoffee · 19/10/2008 19:34

I doubt its a physical problem then. I don't have the same problems during the day either. Just getting into bed. And camping. One night at my last camp I went 23 fucking times. I counted. And got no sleep.
It bugs me. I get into bed at 9 with dd. she falls alseep. I lie there thinking I cant possibly need to go and have to get up. Or think, the boys will have a shower soon so I best go now, have a wee, get back in, realise they are in the shower so its 'impossible' and nee to go more than anything!
All my my head (and bladder)

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 19:42

yes, I think that I'm exactly the same. Maybe the GP can suggest something that may help? It does strike me as a sort of OCD thing. I have undiagnosed OCD tendancies in many areas of life.

poshbloodencrustedwellies · 19/10/2008 19:45

Certainly change to defcaffeinated tea/coffee,I had the same problems a few years ago and saw specialised physio lady for it-I was peeing all day and night. She examined my pelvic floor muscles and they were pretty slack .Had to do countless pelvic floor squeezes and cut out on the caffeine-sadly,my prolapse was pretty bad and I needed surgery.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 19:48

Good idea on the decaf, I shall swop over, it certainly can't hurt!
I am ashamed to say that I have totally neglected my pelvic floor exercises, which I suppose, culd go a long way to explaining any problem I have

OP posts:
pofaced · 19/10/2008 19:59

Haven't read all the posts but it sounds like you have over-active bladder... a sensation of being full even when not. It's more common in older women but I was diagnosed with it in my late 30s. The treatment is drug based but you do also need to look after your pelvic floor.

After about 9 months of drugs I was fine but caffeine does affect me more than previously... go to a doctor etc etc

olivo · 19/10/2008 20:03

I do this, always have since I was a child. I'm sure it's psychological as i never squeeze very much out when i return to the loo. I assumed everyone did this!

honestfriend · 19/10/2008 20:11

have a look at www.cobfoundation.org and look under the Overactive Bladder forums.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 20:25

Thank you ladies
Yes, I've also had this since childhood although sometimes it is worse than others, odd.
Will check out the link, thanks again

poshbloodencrustedwellies · 19/10/2008 20:28

Oddly, mine started after a pretty bad bout of uti's-I certainly think there's a mental element to 'feeling' the urge all the time-but do your pelvic floors and get thee to the GP.Hope your wee's calm down soon

EdwardCullenCanHaveMysoul · 19/10/2008 20:34

Thank you I live in the hope that one day I will be able to go to the loo, be out in a couple of minutes and remain in bed all night!!

OP posts:
pofaced · 19/10/2008 20:58

Go the doctor... it's easily treatable but funnily enough the drugs are a combination of 2 things, one of which is a mild anti-depressant (it's the effect of the 2 of them working together) so you will be extra contecnt to get it sorted!
