Mt pelvic floor muscles arent as strong as they are supposed to be and the doctor gave me some exercises to do and refered me to the hospital?

I am wanting to have another baby - do you think it would be ok to ttc?

Just to say that I had my prolapse repaired after DC2- at 35. I had a cystocele and rectocele but mainly csto. Main problem was just feeling a bulge as if it falling out.
The op was 5 days in hospital and no lifting for 6 weeks and no driving for 2.
You need to be careful forever- I tried jogging a few years back and felt "slack" saw gynae and said no jogging!
The op is not bad- no pain, dissolvable stitches, but a lot of people need a catheter for a few days as the bladder opening gets swollen and shuts.
There are many new types of op now including using a mesh that supports the uterus and it can be attached to the pubic bone. Hysterectomy is not always the best option as the vaginal vault can collapse if the uterus is taken out- the space that is left can collapse in on itself.
My advice is to get the best dr you can to do the op.

Thanks honestfriend. I have been advised to have a hysterectomy with a repair using mesh. Sounds like I am best off carrying on as long as I can.

there is no point in not having it done if you are suffering. It is worth asking your dr about the pros and cons of having it done now or later. good luck whichever!

My gynae said mine will be repaired laparoscpically (I know thats got to be the wrong spelling!) and will be done using the mesh. I have put it off for 6.7 years- so hopefully if things work out job wise should be able to get it done early next year.

I had the mesh op 8 weeks ago and a womb ablation.
I now have the vagina of a 17 year old

Report
coochybottom · 20/10/2008 12:58

What is womb ablation?

Report
cocoleBOO · 20/10/2008 13:00

I had the lining burnt out so I won't have any more periods. It's, obviously, less invasive than a hysterectomy.

Report
honestfriend · 20/10/2008 13:15

why an ablation for a prolapse? did you have period probs?

Report
cocoleBOO · 20/10/2008 13:18

Yes very heavy, I had stress incontinence so I had the 2 ops together.

When you say the vagina of a 17 year old do they tighten it aswell?. That would be ace! Not that I have a fanny like a bucket or anything .

thanks coochybottom - love the name - I really don't fancy an op though the mesh op and ablation sounds interesting. have been working hard remembering to do pelvic exercises since coming onto this thread and it does do a lot of good, however found it quite painful on my pushbike this morning, although do have my period at the moment!

No probs . If anyone is getting the mesh it is NO lifting for weeks.

vicky when I have my period I get the pain in between my legs! presumably because of the prolapse. Lovely innit!

ask if you can be referred to a physio who specialises in this - if not on nhs they cost around £30 an hour privately. v helpful imo

suwoo just seen your bucket fanny comment!

Coochy, I get those pains, but I have since my teens. Do you notice yours worsens significantly during your period? Mine does, you will see some of my threads on here, referring to my mooncup accidents!

My prolapse bothers me most in the middle of my cycle. For some reason that is when I am most aware of it. When I have my period I cant use tampons as they wont stay in. Was able to just about manage them after my 1st son but no chance since the birth of my twins. This upsets me slightly but I get through. For me that would be the advantage of a hysterectomy as no more periods.

You should really try a ring pessary. My mooncup was expelled recently and this was the final straw that led me to decide on the repair. The two rings together has made such a difference that I was actually able to keep it in, this month- result!

I might email my consultant about it. He never even mentioned them and just recommended going the whole hog, hysterectomy and repair with mesh. He said I could contact him with any queries and it wouldnt do any harm I suppose.

My gynae said she really wouldn't recommend a hysterectomy for me. I do think though that is based on my age and me not being 100% certain my family is complete. It is possible that other 'things' can prolapse though without the uterus etc to support them (so I believe). I would email him, like you say no harm done. Mention the ring and the cube. (I have a spare ring you can try out )
