I am 9 days post op for an anterior repair soi thought i would join in. I am trying to be a good girl and not do anything silly but boy its hard. No pain as such apart from back ache. Taking regular paracetamol & ibruprofen along with hot water bottle which is taking the edge off but for the last few days its been agony but dont think it helps because my period is due this week.

How long does the back pain last?

Sorry just re-read that and the first bit could've been clearer; a rectocele is where the rectum bulges into the vagina, an enterocele is where the small intestine bulges into the vagina - a rectoenterocele is where you have both of these.

Coochybottom, a rectoenterocele is where sections of the rectum (rectocele) and small intestine (enterocele) protrude through into the vagina. Prolapse of the anterior wall would involve the bladder protruding though. Myotomes are muscles controlled by certain pairs of spinal nerves; S2,3,4 are the spinal nerves originating from the sacrum, which control the muscles of your bladder, bowels and reproductive organs. Stress incontinence (I'm sure you know) is the involuntary leakage of urine triggered my movement such as sneezing, coughing, jumping etc. If he says it could not be demonstrated, maybe he means that he asked you to cough and you didn't leak?
Hope that helps.

I got these details from a copy of the letter sent to the gp forwarded to me by the consultant. I have no idea what myotomes are! Are there any doctors out there?

Hmm, I've never seen a diagnosis written down, I will have to ask so we can compare . I know I have little or no posterior wall collapse, mine is all anterior and the cervix is well descended (grade 3 or procidentia I believe). I have no idea what the myotomes are, I have never heard that word used in reference to me. Often, when pissed I have been heard to describe my prolapse as 'my fanny falling out'. I'm such a classy chick, me.

Got the letter from the consultant.I have minimal anterior wall prolapse, grade 2 decent of cervix and a large rectoenterocele!!Also my S234 myotomes are reasonable??Stress incontinence could not be demonstrated. Does that mean anything to you? In my words-it is all knackered and falling out!!

My gynae said she really wouldn't recommend a hysterectomy for me. I do think though that is based on my age and me not being 100% certain my family is complete. It is possible that other 'things' can prolapse though without the uterus etc to support them (so I believe). I would email him, like you say no harm done. Mention the ring and the cube. (I have a spare ring you can try out )

I might email my consultant about it. He never even mentioned them and just recommended going the whole hog, hysterectomy and repair with mesh. He said I could contact him with any queries and it wouldnt do any harm I suppose.

You should really try a ring pessary. My mooncup was expelled recently and this was the final straw that led me to decide on the repair. The two rings together has made such a difference that I was actually able to keep it in, this month- result!

My prolapse bothers me most in the middle of my cycle. For some reason that is when I am most aware of it. When I have my period I cant use tampons as they wont stay in. Was able to just about manage them after my 1st son but no chance since the birth of my twins. This upsets me slightly but I get through. For me that would be the advantage of a hysterectomy as no more periods.

Coochy, I get those pains, but I have since my teens. Do you notice yours worsens significantly during your period? Mine does, you will see some of my threads on here, referring to my mooncup accidents!

ask if you can be referred to a physio who specialises in this - if not on nhs they cost around £30 an hour privately. v helpful imo

vicky when I have my period I get the pain in between my legs! presumably because of the prolapse. Lovely innit!

thanks coochybottom - love the name - I really don't fancy an op though the mesh op and ablation sounds interesting. have been working hard remembering to do pelvic exercises since coming onto this thread and it does do a lot of good, however found it quite painful on my pushbike this morning, although do have my period at the moment!

When you say the vagina of a 17 year old do they tighten it aswell?. That would be ace! Not that I have a fanny like a bucket or anything .

cocoleBOO · 20/10/2008 13:18

Yes very heavy, I had stress incontinence so I had the 2 ops together.

I had the lining burnt out so I won't have any more periods. It's, obviously, less invasive than a hysterectomy.

What is womb ablation?

Report
cocoleBOO · 20/10/2008 12:55

I had the mesh op 8 weeks ago and a womb ablation.
I now have the vagina of a 17 year old
